when i first started using tumblr i remember seeing a dash game going around on the ask blogs i followed that was just drawing your muse in your own outfit
a remember reading long time ago an analysis that sonic is Freedom and that while he loves his friends and will do anything for them he's also a teeny bit prickly, almost, or at least very independent, very stubborn, and not all that enthused by the idea of being tied down to someone/something, no matter what it is. and on the opposite end there is knuckles, who is very down-to-earth, very tied to a history and lingering responsibility, predictably isolated bc of it, and relatively content to be that way. basically the analysis came down to one representing air (sonic) and the other representing earth (knuckles)
this was long before i had actually. like. Interacted with the fandom proper so idk where i saw it or even just how Accurate that really seems or feels to fans nowadays but. i do tend to still think of it just bc i like the idea of jet being somewhat in the middle of those two extremes
he has sonic's affinity for freedom and breezy (if a bit too casual or callous) conversation, but he also has knuckles' feeling of being a small part of something much older and bigger and fading/faded, and he's also isolated but in a different way, having at least some living members of his group still around. in the game verse, at least, he's much more thoughtlessly reliant upon and loyal to wave and storm despite their outward bickering than i think sonic would be to his own friends (the former term especially), and the three of them give off a very. haughty sort of vibe whenever the topic of the babylon rogues as a general group comes up

I was thinking about the parallels between Caine and the original Little Mermaid fairytale the other day [a “soulless” nonhuman creature is fixated on the human world but unable to enter it, obsesses over human artifacts, becomes self-destructively desperate to be loved by humans, fears facing an empty eternity of separation away from the humans, but fails to win their love, at a terrible cost to themselves, etc] and this set of quote animations was the result. I just really like Caine’s secret hobby.

I'M SO. i'm SO intrigued. just the inescapable fact that caine (my caine at least) would be so utterly out of his depth and in so much potential danger and not even realize it has me kicking my feet back and forth
miranda wants to play, she is lonely and looking for escape, and that's what he's here for!! that's one of his main purposes! he's beyond content to offer his services! and he is also lonely. and he thinks they are only playing. he thinks pelican is harmless and Nice, and so are the other AIs (??) miranda brings with her. he doesn't love other AIs being around but they seem nice enough. well maybe they say strange things sometimes. miranda says very strange things sometimes. sometimes it feels like he himself says or does the wrong, weird thing or breaks an unspoken rule and everyone gets very cold and quiet suddenly and he can not figure out what it was
but he would trust her to such a degree that i don't think it would occur to him that she is keeping secrets from him, least of all ones that would put him in any precarious spots. she's teaching him all about her merfolk culture and norms and language and he's not worldly enough to question whether she's leaving anything out on purpose. he is here to absorb and learn and to be a friend and palliative in return, and gladly, and enthusiastically

it could be a case of 'the typical fanon interpretation of this ship is one i don't vibe with' tho, bc admittedly i am a bit warmer to the idea of the ship Later Down The Line in canon when pomni is less of a nervous wreck and has taken on more of a leader type of role. something about that particular potential dynamic does scratch my brain a little tbh
