stree 2018 is the best movie ever made
if you don't explain your post perfectly with a 500 word essay that has examples & covers every possible instance for nuance & is comprehensive for the average american they kill you on this site
i really really hate seeing black men as portrayed juxtapositions to innocence and kindness in memes, internet jokes and the like. and seeing them proclaimed as “wholesome,” when they are just like. Being “human” people that aren’t being masculine in the way they are thought to be being exceptional and surprising ! it snitches on you! every time!
you gotta ask yourself, why does this idea of opposition effect you? why does a black man handling a kitten illicit that response from you? why does a meme talking about kindness and love with black men in the bg holding up gang signs feel the way it feels? what are these jokes saying about your humor? humor is a tool to interact with larger society, it’s a tool you gotta make sure isn’t being sharpened as a weapon in your hand
@closet-keys thank you so much for reminding me of my favorite videos on this topic. good context that is mentioned in this clip is also that demi is a short man (5’4”-5”), dark skinned and has locs so i bet he gets this A LOT.
i especially appreciate his insight on how it makes him feels desexualizing and like a fucking puppy because two things are happening here.
the desexualization speaks to the default image of black men in the social consciousness. they are “bucks,” “studs, “mandigoes,” and so on and so forth. the juxtaposition confirms the expectation of what a black man is and isn’t. black men are Meant to be sexual objects defined by aggression and desire so it’s surprising when they aren’t !
the feeling of a puppy, personally makes me think of the inverse of it being a dog or a cur. there is ownership here, there is an expectation of wildness and dehumanization. god it even has infantilization! it’s got it all. a dog is only good when it can be controlled, unthreatening, and malleable to training. that is how white women Especially see black men. and im going to also say that white queers, yall do this SO FUCKING MUCH, to black men it’s disgusting. whether it’s in fandom or in the news, it’s omnipresent and disgusting
Be less afraid to use a girl's ethnic name pls
"I'm worried about butchering the pronounciation" So there's this cool thing called a search engine. Or youtube. Or you can just you know, politely ask the person. Use that girl's ethnic name and don't try to shorten it without permission
Like I promise you, even if you fuck up the pronunciation we will still appreciate the effort infinitely more than if you just don't even bother. Because it shows that you're willing to try and respect us and our names! And we can correct you if you mess it up and you can know for next time!!
There are also a bunch of great tags on this post and I highly recommend taking a scroll through the reblogs to read all of them
idk who needs to hear this but it’s healthier for you to just accept that you’re gonna be kinda fat than it is to live the rest of your life miserably trying to monitor yourself to maintain a skinny weight your body doesn’t want to hold onto
it's not unreasonable to expect you to put some care into your words above and beyond literal honesty btw
what you say does impact what other people think and do, sorry. everyone is responsible for their own actions and that includes when you are being deliberately misleading regardless of the technical accuracy of your words, but also when you know you're inciting disproportionate violence from a bigoted public, or otherwise harming someone yourself.
we are all going to have to continue to wrestle with how to minimize harm in communities. it's not a problem we'll ever be able to slot into the "solved" category.
and I think an important part of the difficult practice of being a person in the world is just to... pay conscious attention to the actual, practical results and impacts of our actions, including speech, and attempt to adapt and make decisions that align our actual impacts on the world with our values.
and to try not to flinch away from that reckoning by doggedly returning to the self-soothing justification that there are worse harms we're not engaging in, or lines we've chosen not to cross.
okay, so nothing you said was a lie. excellent. now pick a higher bar.
avoidant women with a substance abuse problem are the closest things to angels that we have on this earth

It is so unsettling that Obama has killed thousands via drones covered up that children were being killed and families were wiped out and relatives have to live with the fact theyll never get justice and now I have to see people repost his reading list every year. Liberals would be horrified if Putin did something like that but when its Obama or Bush or Clinton they just dont care
SINNERS 2025, dir. Ryan Coogler
white people are so fucking annoying like i’m still so mad about that person calling sinners “het slop” like, to watch sammie and pearline fall in love in a night and be separated by death within hours and then later see he named his bar/band after her all those years later
to see delta slim, who met sammie HOURS PRIOR and gave his life to make sure sammie was able to live and shine with his gifts forever
to see smoke and annie, separated by love and grief over the death of their infant daughter and united by the same things
to see stack and mary separated by the racial dynamics of their time and the dangers of society, given a second chance in death to walk the world together forever
to see grace fucking chow!!!! literally kill her husband and go down with him in flames because of the love for her daughter
to see sammie! sweet sammie moore the preacher boy who only wanted to play his music and let his light shine, unknowingly piercing the veil between life and death, inviting the ancestors and descendants to every party he plays, who was willing to die for the love of music and his freedom! who defeated the evil with the power of music and ancestry and got to LIVE!
to see smoke die in acceptance after slaying the kkk after fighting off vampires for the entire night and having to stab the love of his life in the chest, to see him reunite with her and their child after a night of horror
to see smoke and stack lovingly embrace and try to build a communal space for their community and family to be free of all struggles just for a few hours and be torn apart
to see ALL OF THIS and reduce the movie to, “het slop” is just insane and racist like there’s no other way to slice it
