Paul McCartney’s handwritten setlist for The Beatles’ show at the Grosvenor Ballroom in Liverpool, England | Spring 1960
John at home, 29 June 1967.

I went to Christies's today to see the Jim Irsay collection that's going up for auction. If you are in/near NYC, have time *this week*, and are a music history/pop culture fan, YOU MUST GO! Beatleheads especially will be overwhelmed - I certainly was!
My absolute favorite item was a copy of Paul's affidavit from his lawsuit against the other three Beatles, hand-annotated by John with several rebuttals. Truly truly insane to see a piece of drama like that in front of me.
THE BEATLES: AN AFFIDAVIT FILED BY PAUL MCCARTNEY TO BREAK UP THE BEATLES, WITH JOHN LENNON’S HANDWRITTEN ANNOTATIONS, 1970
Photos of stuff I saw below the cut :)
Ahhh this is amazing! The Christies site link has good quality pictures of the whole affidavit and John's annotations. I've transcribed them below (uncertain words in square brackets):
Page 2: Underlining the part where Paul says "While we were touring the relationship between us was very close" John writes "Many fights on tour about leadership."
Page 3: Underlining the part about Ringo leaving the band, John's written "Said we didn't want him anymore." (auughh)
Page 3: Underlining Paul's claim that John "was no longer interested in performing songs he hadn't written", John writes: "Paul was guilty of this for years - [witness] 'let it be' [dig]."
Page 3: Underlining "George had a row with the rest of us", John writes "Paul" (Lmao)
Page 4: Underlining the part where Paul says the introduction of Klein was the first time in the band's history where an irreconcilable difference had occurred, John writes "he was funny about anyone new, including Brian!"
Page 5: Underlining where Paul talks about requesting more time before deciding whether or not to sign a band management contract with Klein in May 1969, John writes "had been delaying everything for weeks."
Page 7: Underlining where Paul claims that, in the divorce meeting, John said that the Beatles' activities had come full circle because the photo taken for Get Back was so similar to the one for their first album, John writes "never happened."
Page 7: Where Paul recounts his phone call to John telling him he was leaving and that he was handing over his business arrangements to the Eastmans, John underlines the latter part and writes "already done?"
Page 9: Underlining where Paul recounts the release of the Spector edit of Long & Winding Road and says that Spector had changed that and other songs of his "considerably", and that "this had never happened before", John writes "used to happen in early days."
Page 10: Commenting on the reply Paul sent to John's "How and Why?" postcard, John writes "I expect [something] a little less 'poetic' considering his advisors had been explaining it to him for 2 yrs."
Page 11: Underlining where Paul complains about legal decisions re: Northern Songs and Maclen Music being made without his knowledge, John writes "No one can even get in touch with him."
Page 12: Underlining where Paul refers to the attempt to change the release date of McCartney I as "a threat to my artistic freedom", John writes "he resented the high handed way in which his record 'suddenly' appeared, and demanding release dates with no consideration whatsoever for other Apple products."
About "never happened" comment:
"By the way, what happened to my idea of putting the parody of our first album cover on the Let It Be cover?" (JL, 1971)
About the reply Paul sent to John's "How and Why?" postcard:
'Eventually,' McCartney recalled, 'I went and said, "I want to leave. You can all get on with Klein and everything, just let me out." Having not spoken to Lennon for several weeks, he sent him a letter that summer, pleading that the former partners 'let each other out of the trap'. As McCartney testified, Lennon 'replied with a photograph of himself and Yoko, with a balloon coming out of his mouth in which was written, "How and Why?" I replied by letter saying, "How by signing a paper which says we hereby dissolve our partnership. Why because there is no partnership." John replied on a card which said, "Get well soon. Get the other signatures and I will think about it.” Communication was at an end.’
(Peter Doggett, You Never Give Me Your Money, 2009 - P.88)
About "he was funny about anyone new, including Brian!":
“[John] wanted me to be part of the group. He created the group, so he thought the others should accept that. I didn't particularly want to be part of them. But by that time, he had got all the avant-garde friends of mine out of my life, so I had nobody else to play music with. I couldn't see how I would fit in, but John was certain I would. He kept saying ‘They're very sensitive guys…You think they're just Liverpool gits, but no, they're very sensitive…Paul is into Stockhausen...They can do your thing…’ He thought the other Beatles would go for it: he was trying to persuade me.”

my favourite part of Man On The Run was seeing these stellar animations!
this segment of the opening is too damn good, the way each clip neatly transitions.. and how it shifts from Paul holding the Apple to the Beatles drum face
