The idea of dragons in modern times is so fun because imagine a hot summer day on your vacay and go to use the hotel pool and staff is like "valued guests we regret to inform you that the pool area is out of service at the moment, we apologize for the inconvenience"

And people like "wtf why" looking out their hotel room window and there's this. This dragon just curled up in the pool chilling, literally, cooling itself down

Some of the staff are trying to gently shoo him away and the dragon does a soft little "rrrrrr" like a grumpy cat and a warning puff of smoke and they're like "fuck it i don't get paid nearly enough for this" and no ones using the pool today sorry!

Still obsessed with the AI allegory of Luthor’s monkey bots and the technology that houses them literally tearing the planet apart. Mister terrific being really fuckin pissed off that Luthor had the gall to risk the safety of the entire planet on unregulated, unsafe scientific advancement!!! The guy who kept trying to get Luthor to shut it down wondering where the ship was going to have left to land if they destroyed the entire planet?? And that same guy, being too scared to resist, being the one we saw in frame getting arrested was so good. Following orders isn’t an excuse!! The way the journalists were there on the ground of the metaphorical climate disaster until the last possible second gathering evidence to prove it was a billionaire at fault!!!

And the after-credits scene with mister terrific and superman, where metropolis wasn’t able to fit precisely back together, because a traumatic event happened and it foundationally altered the city. Mister terrific’s “what do you want me to do, take it apart and put it back together?” was so fucking good. Absolute legend.

Gonna gush about Superman yet again because I can’t get over how well the movie handled the Justice Gang

I remember prior to the movie’s release I was worried the movie would be too crowded or that the Justice Gang just a glorified cameo or worse just a joke, but no. Their presence serves the story well and each of them are capable superheroes that are badass in their own right and contributed to saving the day in the end

And I just love the way they interacted with Superman, even though he’s not on their team they still treat like he’s a colleague or a work friend. I love that when Lex revealed to the world the intentions of Superman’s parents they don’t immediately turn against Superman but actually talk to him away from the public

And I love that the movie decided that the Justice Gang would be the one to save Jarhanpur from Boravia’s army and not Superman. Having an entire group inspired by Superman’s action and getting together to end a conflict that was bigger than what Superman could handle on his own was so damn good

Absolutely LOVE the fact that unlike most superhero movies, Superman didn’t do everything.

It was set up as “oh no Metropolis and Jarhanpur are in trouble! He needs to quickly finish one and then help the other!” But no. Instead he just called his friends and they stepped in where he couldn’t. Even at Metro, he had Mr. Terrific’s help.

This is not a one-god-army kinda Superman. This is a I-could-try-to-do-it-all-or-I-can-ask-others-to-step-in-when-needed and isn’t that the crux of humanity right now? All of us may not be able to go where the problems are happening but we can help those who are there. We can also face the problems happening in our neighbourhood with people who can’t be close but can help in whatever way they can.

Because, sure, Superman could do it all himself. But that inevitably leads to a Superman who is stretched too thin and getting increasingly weary. But having people he knows he can rely on? Well isn’t that the best power anyone can have…

excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most well-known and beloved heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

Superman losing his composure only when people shrug off the lives of others. Doesn’t matter how well he knows them. Doesn’t matter if they’re even human.

He gets upset at the Justice Gang for brutally killing a rampaging Kaiju and not even attempting to find a way to move it or at least euthanize it more humanely.

The only time he raises his voice during Lois’ interview is when she digs into his interference in geopolitics, because people would have died if he hadn’t acted. The only time he yells at Luthor is when Luthor abducts Krypto. The only time he cries is when Luthor murders someone he barely even knew.

He saves a fucking squirrel for god’s sake. We’re so back.
