Come in and make yourself at home. This is a queer, multifandom writeblr and personal blog. I cycle through fandoms often, but the most recent obsessions have been Disco Elysium, Murderbot, Leverage, Jeeves & Wooster, and my perennial interest in Tolkien.

You are welcome to make art, fics, podfics, & other transformative work based on my stuff. You don't have to ask permission but please please please tag me or shoot me a message so I can see!

I think fandom and queer issues are interesting to read and talk about, and I love finding hills to die on. That being said, I will not tolerate harassment, and I have no interest in joining in on callout posts or whisper campaigns. Occasionally I reblog artistic nudity or write smut. Hot take, but even if you ARE punching up (instead of punching sideways at a group that is in the same boat as you), there's a limit to what you can say without sounding like a violent facist but woke this time.

Making fun of a group of people that are privileged over you is one thing, but wishing non-cartoonish violence and death on them ("they should fall off a cliff" vs. "they should be wiped out"), wishing sexual violence on them, dehumanising them, claiming that they're less capable of creating art or living meaningful lives, saying that their relationships are inherently shallow and fake - these things are fucked up. I understand venting and saying extreme things when in pain, but when you find yourself regularly posting about wanting certain people tortured and killed, you need to examine that.

When the only thing stopping you from completely dehumanising someone is your own judgement regarding their privilege level relative to yours, you are not a safe person to be around.

"convince your followers that their Oppressor Class (whether real or imagined) is less deserving of human rights" is the oldest and most reliable trick in the book to incite mass violence, and you're not immune to it because you're a Good Person with Correct Opinions. you will continue to be a potential breeding ground for fascist thought until you stop dehumanizing people in any context, regardless of whether they deserve it or not, or how serious you are. there can be no acceptable targets.

Pretty sure most genocides in history, including the Holocaust, were justified with "we're punching up." 🤣 "We're killing our oppressors" has always been a convenient excuse to justify atrocities.

Queer Fantasy submissions

Submission guidelines: Must be queer Must be fiction in the fantasy genre Accepting all types of fantasy: secondary world, primary world, hi

Submissions will be open through next Sunday, August 16th at 11:59 PM ET.

You can submit as many times as you want. Books that were entered into the previous Queer Fantasy bracket may be submitted again. Only previous Queer Fantasy winners will not compete again: Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett.

Submission guidelines:

Must be queer

Must be fiction in the fantasy genre

Accepting all types of fantasy: secondary world, primary world, urban fantasy, romantasy, historical fantasy, etc etc

Accepting all age categories: adult, YA, middle-grade, etc

Can be a standalone work, a series, or a novella

For series: usually it'll make the most sense to submit either the series as a whole or the first book, not each book individually. There's exceptions of course where it makes more sense to submit individually (e.g., books that are marketed as a "series" but are primarily self-contained and don't have plot/character overlap, as with many romance series)

The google form will not collect any personal information such as email address

What “counts” as a queer book?

I’m not going to get overly prescriptive, but: For modern books, something that features queer characters/perspectives/themes in a significant or substantive way.

My guiding principle is: if someone is looking for queer books in a particular genre, would they be satisfied with this book as actually fulfilling that promise?

the best piece of writing advice I got was from my creative nonfiction professor when I turned in Kill Yourself (a transgender metaphor, one of my favorites) which amounted to saying I'm not committing hard enough. The piece was somewhat gory and kinda painful but I wanted it to be visceral and he was literally the only one to see that. Every other person and professor would have said to make minor changes here and there but he was the one seeing I was holding back for the sake of the assignment. So, he told me to stop being scared and just write exactly what I wanted to say, to commit as hard as possible to the idea instead of testing the waters to see if im even allowed to. So I did, and he was right. The original lacked the conviction required to make the idea work, and the revision brought it to the level that truly let it shine

I won an award for this piece and I genuinely dont think I would have if I didn't get told to go harder. He was one of the only people in my life who truly just got it. A fantastic writer and story teller and part of it is that he's incredibly authentic, sometimes to his detriment.

Don't be afraid of your writing. It hurts putting your everything on display for everyone to see, but its only then when true beautiful writing can be created
