I’ve been pretty dead in this fandom, mostly due to the hiatus, but the new bunch of episodes were really great I’m having a lot of fun!
I don’t usually talk about episodes when they come out, so this will be new for me, but if yall like it I can make more when more eps come out.
I wanted to talk about “Lake House Theater” and how it made me change my overall view on the Startom relationship as a whole, and them as individuals.
I guess as i’m a starco nextgen blog its easy to assume i don't really ship it. From the beginning I wasn't a big fan of Tom design wise and personality wise. His first appearance was blowing up at Star when she didn't want to talk to him, which for me personally was a red flag, and made any further interactions with him in later episodes already on edge. Then when he tried to manipulate Star with her future anxieties, that I felt was really really fucked up.
In season 2 I feel like he started becoming a much more sympathetic character, still being manipulative but at least was displaying that he was trying to better himself, and I do like that him and Marco develop a sorta friendship, I just really hate the rivals that constantly sabotage each other for girl trope. There wasn't a lot of Tom this season, and I guess it was more of a transition from a sorta antagonist to protagonist, which i appreciate the time they put into it.
Season 3 is when they put more focus on Tom’s redemption with Star, which i think was a good move, showing his growth and how he actively been doing things to better himself, he is maturing, he’s taking a step back, and I found myself liking his character a lot more! Took 3 season heh. I guess the thing I didn't really like about their relationship was that it kinda, happened really quickly? I feel like a relationship is a really big step and considering EVERYTHING that was happening at the time, I think I’d been better for them to maybe start back at friends and develop better trust, but at the same time theyre teenagers and everything around them was rushing so it’s understandable.
Season 4 gave me the episode that really made me rethink their entire dynamic, Don't get me wrong, I know Star has done a lot of bad things to Tom throughout the relationship, I just wanted to address it in the season 4 paragraph ;0
But seeing everything from Tom’s perspective, or well his family’s perspective, you see that Tom puts a lot of effort into his action, and has honestly matured the most out of the whole cast. I originally thought the problem with Startom was Tom, but now tbh, i think it’s Star. Tom has been patient, he tries to be there for her, he gives her space to hangout with Marco even if he gets a lil jealous, but is able to ask for alone time with Star in a mature manner, he seems to be the only one putting effort in their relationship. And I get it, Star is going through A LOT rn, but that doesn't mean she has to put Tom through that. I’m glad he was able to bring up the way Star treats him tho. And I do hope that, for Tom’s sake, Star makes an effort to better her treatment to him.
I guess what I mean from this weird rant? Talk? Opinion? Is that I still don’t ship StarTom, frankly I think Tomco is a better ship LOL (not that Tomcos a bad ship, I think it’s really cute and seems more healthy then some of the canon ships) But I’m glad that instead of giving him the Jackie treatment, theyre giving him a change of being more than Star’s boyfriend, and Marco’s love rival. And tbh if they keep up this growth if Star and Tom end up bring endgame, I’d be happy he if it ain't my ship.
I wanna stress that I don’t watch Svtfoe for the ships, although i feel like this blog and post contradicts me LOL. I’m really liking this season and I can't wait to see how it wraps everything up. Eclipsa’s character as always has me puzzled and it has me wondering where the stories going to lead, i’m hoping well end with a confrontation with Globgore, but you know, at this point maybe the final antagonist will be Glossaryck idk! I’m just really enjoying the ride.
I’d like to here you guys’ opinion, do you agree with me? Did i miss something? Am I reading to into things?
