I keep thinking about that fem!Bruce Wayne fanart and like, how the playboy-ness of it could be so very Paris Hilton 20 years ago vibes. Like, considering rn Paris is having somewhat of a resurgence for having grown up and people are reevaluating their opinions of her as a teen, it could be very similar for a hypothetical fem Bruce.

It would also excuse her leaving for years for bat-training bcus most ppl would just think she's going to rehab. Most male celebs don't have that level of dismissal and underestimation that could absolutely lead to a double life as a vigilante without anyone Suspecting. Especially because the concepts I've seen have Batman still presenting masc, people wouldn't even make the connection.

Reading The Island Of Dr Moreau for the first time and like, why do the adaptations make it people vivisected into animals when the twist is that it's the other way around? I'm thinking mainly of the Simpsons version from Treehouse Of Horror 8

Ig it might not be as terrifying for short form when you can't very well explore the nature of humanity, whether it's learned of innate and whatnot...

But also now I'm thinking about if it's more horrific: if people are turned to animals because of the dehumanization, or if animals are turned human because of the mutilation and wrong-ness they feel. There's plenty of horror media that explores dehumanization, it is interesting to read one that explores the horror of forced humanization.

I have a lot of complicated thoughts about this book so far, especially when thinking about other books that I've read like Robinson Crusoe. I feel like The Island of Dr Moreau does veer into a certain colonizer narrative that I do not find appealing. I will finish the book though.

In my dreams, I often have to pull

Something out of my mouth. It makes me heave,

Cough out hair or mucous or any sort

Of bodily thing coming out of me.

Like trying to unblock a clogged shower

Drain with just my hands, I have to reach in

My throat and scrape out this layer of filth

Painfully, itching and just sickening.

Last night’s dream, it was dead skin, starting from

My chapped lips; down under my tongue, the soft flesh

Pulled out hard like necrosis; and the skin

Of my throat, dry from dehydration and sick.

When I awoke, I coughed, gagged on the taste

Of the night air and dust, no longer known
