Deciphering is a detective surrealistic love story about our loveable walking disaster of an ex-attorney trying to confess to his best friend prosecutor.

The story also touches sensitive topics as: alchoholism, suicidal ideation, psychological and physical abuse, depression and self-sabotage. And a murder, of course. It is a detective story too after all.

Arain sorry to bother you, but i kinda wanted to reread your deciphering comic again after the comment about the expressions on page 35. Unfortunately that page is out of commission due to saying it has adult content. Do you have any idea why its saying that? And how to access it cause tumblr wont let me

Hi! I'm on pg 35 of Deciphering, and I'm obsessed! I had to tell you that your way of drawing expressions is WONDERFUL. I started your comic thinking it was maybe 10 pg (HAH!) and I was BLOWN AWAY by that page where Edgeworth is staring at Pheonix in annoyance and then acceptance and then mirth. I stared at the page for 5 minutes. It was incredible. You make such real expressions, I'm mesmerized by them. Everything else is gorgeous as well (the backgrounds, the symbolism, the colors) but I keep staring at their faces and everything that isn't being said. Thank you for sharing!!! ))))

Welcome aboard ;) Thank you so much! Faces and, to be precise, emotions are what I drew and draw with most love and care since childhood, wish I'd draw something else with the same inspiration as it's the best part for me and after it the process's getting duller and duller x') Also, ah, the 10th page with Edgie's emotions was my first step away from the script, as originally Edgeworth was supposed to be a block of ice, so Phoenix and the reader would have to decipher what Edgie's thinking about, but my passion for drawing funny faces melted this ice practically since the day one, so there's little to no challenge in figuring out this man's feelings I guess x)

Hi guys! I know you are used for waiting for Deciphering (thank you for that), but right now I need two-three weeks to deal with job and family stuff and my head is not in a place for gay lawyers x') Sorry to leave you on such a cliffhanger! We still will have at least 50-60 pages to the end ;)

Awww, thank you so much! ^^ Welp, friendly advice to get some patience with it, because even in a leisure pace it's super frustrating at times x) Although in story mode now it's probably not as tedious to go through court scenes :) The last AA game I finished was the forth one Apollo Justice and both Investigations spin-off games with Miles as protagonist. What's going on in the end of the fifth game and altogether sixth I have no idea x)

Hello hello! I am loving deciphering but I am new here! I’m trying to make sure I have things right. So, Phoenix and Miles both care for one another, but Miles is slotting himself into a smaller spot and being a good friend (safer, maybe? Can’t get rejected if you never ask?) and Phoenix didn’t love Miles romantically (or didn’t realize) until it was during the disbarment, so there’s some shame in there for him? I binged the whole thing and my brain is full but I think at one point you mentioned he thought he was too late…did he know Miles loved him at one point, or suspected?

Hello! Don't worry, happy to have you here! ^^ Yes, they were both just friends, until Miles developed his feelings in an uncertain point of the past. He's strongly repressing his romantic feelings, as he rightly thought they would be unanswered, because Phoenix showed interest only to women. This part I messed up, as it's too unclear and out-of-nowhere, but nonetheless: if we are going into AU-zone, which is not necessary for understanding the whole story but is hinted in Phoenix's nightmare, Phoenix could be married to Dahlia since university and it turned out ugly (Iris is optional). I've made a cut in canon story and made him disbarred for trying to save his wife and mother of their daughter. I wanted his trauma to be possible to interprete both ways, AU and canon, buuuuuuuuuuuut I can see why little to no people understood this very wonky nightmare scene x) So if we are going full AU, of course Miles is too decent to pursue a married man, now widower. But still. Miles feels safe in his self-friendzone as it means his "straight" friend will always be around, but also suffers as this friend shows romantic gestures this exact morning out of a blue. Miles still has this "perfection" trauma. If he slips, he failes as a friend and it's not even a question OF COURSE he would be harshly rejected and even punished because, welp, he hided his "true intentions" for years x) It's not about just being rejected as "oh, no? Sorry, I'm not interested" and probably keep being friends, everything is hightened to the matter of crashing identity x) Phoenix fell for Miles in the lowest point of his life, as he felt that glimpse of true feelings and deep care from Miles, who pushed through the barriers and supported him. He felt love, when he believed he wasn't deserving it. He saw those loving eyes of a person afraid for him doing something beyond the point of no return. But, well, Miles is a man x) So Phoenix needed time to figure out if he really wants to try this kind of relationship. Right after Lang's call Phoenix was upset he probably was too late to pursue Miles. And no, he isn't sure he saw the romantic love and is terrified he made a mistake x) BUT, as Phoenix is our protagonist, he actually tries to ask Miles if he would like to become a couple, and Miles, being his story-wise antagonist, tries to make everything stay the same x)

Damn I wrote those boys messy.

The background colours on page 177 are stricking, I love how they enhance the emotions in Miles' eyes. And that lighting... Your work is awesome as always !!!

Deciphering, pages 177-178 [Previous page]  [Masterpost]  [Next page] Ah yes, that classic moment when you try to confess to your bro, but he thinks you are breaking up with him. Typical dudes x) Had a hard time with the first page, but I think it turned out fine. Initially this scene wasn't supposed to be that emotional, but the previous version of my Edgeworth was also far less expressive altogether x), so it felt natural to add several new lines (again) to push the emotional impact further.
