Everyone's so focused on Grace's primary hypothesis (life doesn't need water) remaining unsupported that you're ignoring his secondary hypothesis (the Goldilocks zone is for idiots) being proven correct
Okay but it's been bugging me: Aren't the ERIDIANS life that did not need water? Their planet is so hot and dense, it wouldn't have supported liquid water (when not, you know, in a specially crafted paludarium), right?
A little late to the BloodyMary brunch, but the brainworms have thoroughly taken hold.
I had to try my hand at drawing Simon, and it turned into a study of a headcanon I had of him getting a xenonite prosthetic that serves as a trellis/scaffolding for his plant/blood vein mutations. In my mind, that allows him to have more fine motor controls of the prosthesis (the vines moving the mechanics) and limited sensory feedback.

Simon has his days where his fears and temper gets the better of him, especially regarding the mutation and how he doesn't have control of his own body. He tried to remove all the teeth from his face, but they keep growing back.
Grace does his best to help Simon cope with the changes. Eventually, Simon accepts the teeth are a part of him now. He doesn't like it, but he learns to live with it. On top of growing tired of fighting the mutation, he doesn't want to worry Ryland or put even more burden on him with his problems.
Meanwhile, Grace is relieved Simon isn't hurting himself anymore. Also he thinks the teeth are neat. Weird, but NEAT.

I’m so happy with how both of these came out. I wanted them to be drastically different in tone while being very similar in all the ways that matter. They’re both holding the hope of their respective universes in their hands <3. Details below the cut!
Trying to work out Simon’s mutations if he was saved and brought up from the sub.
- New respiratory tract formed that simulate the gill chambers fish have
- Submerged, the bronchi are cut off, he will take in blood/water through his mouth and it is expelled through the gills which collect oxygen from it
- Gills are hooked up to the pulmonary veins, carrying oxygen through the rest of the body
- Kept moist with his own blood to keep them from drying out which can leak out cause why not
May have messed this up, mashing together two respiratory systems is hard
This is the first real post I've seen of Simon's mutations where he is scared of them.
I do not fuck with the monster/mermaid Simon trope, but this is going in the correct direction full-swing.
I enjoy the inherent asymmetry of the mutations here; having it in a singular lung is going to suck, making it more punctuated and foreign. He wouldn't be able to use it, because breathing through one set of gills would not negate fluid from going into the other lung and drowning him. It's completely useless aside from being gross. I just freakin' saw you fixed that entire issue via the bronchi being cut off. I still love everything about both of these ideas.
Simon having to rip his own face open in an insanely painful metamorphosis with the teeth is soul-wrenchingly wonderful. Bonus points if he develops arthritic lockjaw from inflammation or some other horrible thing.
I also have to point out the shape and placement of the teeth, all on its own accord, because GODDAMN. You hit that scary mark without making it over-the-top or "look nice". It's ugly. I love it because it's ugly. The teeth have been implied in canon to be bone cancer, so they would not be growing in any direction that makes sense.
I love the scar placement, too. The boils he developed would have caused pitting and divots, which you shaded beautifully here. You remembered to remove his arm in the correct location (transhumeral amputation) and that's just the cherry on the cake, isn't it?
Also, dead eyes Simon. yes. No light in his eyes. Yes, yes, yes.
Fucking well done, G. I'm putting this in the art hall of fame.

One thing I find really interesting is the patterns that Armand falls into over and over again (like most of the vampires in the show, they're stuck in their trauma). But Armand has a very specific PATTERN. He is with a group, and/or leading the group. This group has hard rules, expectations. He chafes at the bit but does not have the confidence or drive to actually break out of the system himself. Instead, he seeks out and welcomes the rules breaker who comes in like a wrecking ball. Then, he latches onto that person, and establishes a new system - usually built on the template of rules and control (the very things that he was feeling tied by in the previous incarnation). Then that too eventually becomes constrictive, and repeat... repeat. Just from what we've seen, we've had Lestat comes in and break apart his Children of Darkness coven. Then, he re-establishes the same cult/coven system but with a more modern set dressing, but still hard and immutable rules. Then Louis comes in, breaking the rules, offering him a glimmer of a different life. He latches onto Louis, and methodically wraps the pair of them up in routine and control systems. It's not the cult, not a coven, but everything about the Dubai penthouse screams control and isolation. Then Daniel comes in, and breaks apart the lie that the relationship has been built on, and then he latches onto Daniel....

Arun had been a slave in a brothel. That too runs on strict rules on control and he can't escape it himself. Do you think that he, back then, might have invited the rules breaker (Marius) somehow to free him? That would mean that his trauma cycle actually started with his turning.
I was thinking about this later! And even if he doesn't verbally invite the transgression/rules breaking/ person who breaks him out of the pattern, Marius would still be setting the mold for that template for him. At the same time a savior AND (with the little we've heard about the show version of Marius), still an abuser who Arun would have been wishing for escape from.
In the books [SPOILER] it's the original coven / Children of Darkness who come in, break apart that life, and then co-opt Arun/Amadeo into their ways, another earlier step in the cycle. And once again, Arun/Amadeo/Armand is passed from one controlling situation to another.

This is a cranberry bog (unflooded) it’s how cranberries grow. Once they’re ripe, the blog is flooded and the cranberries harvested.
Basically by using big floaty things to round them all up and then scooping them out of the water.

oh here is a fun lil perspective on cranberry harvesting i never heard about anywhere else. the guy who owns the restaurant right down the road from the farm, who fries our chickens sometimes, is from Boston, with the strongest Boston accent ever, and in a former life before he started slinging reasonably priced barbeque and occasional organic chicken, he was a cranberry farmer.
His farm was on the leading edge of kinda using organic/sustainable pest control methods, and one of the things that they did to keep insect damage down was that they encouraged wolf spiders to live in the cranberry field, to eat the bugs.
This was all fine and good until they flooded the bog. Now, you don’t just like flood the bog and then go around it in a boat or whatever. No, you use hip waders to get in there and put the big floaty things where they go and get all the berries and such.
Well when you’re in the bog in hip waders, that makes you the tallest thing. Wolf spiders can swim a bit, but they don’t like it, so they’re, quite understandably, looking to climb out of the water onto a tall thing.
So yeah the first interview question he always asked potential cranberry bog harvester hires was “are you cool with spiders?”
“You’d be amazed,” he said to us, shaking his head a little, “how many guys would just straight lie. Like, you think I’m asking you that question to be cute? Nah man you’re gonna have like a hundred wolf spiders trying to climb your eyebrows, you gotta be chill, those wolf spiders are fellow employees. You really gotta be chill with spiders if you’re gonna work a cranberry harvest.”
