New Media
internet and new media provide young people with a range of benefits, and opportunities to empower themselves in a variety of ways. The communities and social interactions young people form online can be invaluable for bolstering and developing young people's self-confidence and social skills.
New Media helps clients transform and grow their existing content and analytics businesses.
New Media are forms of media that are native to computers, computational and rely on computers for redistribution. Some examples of new media are shown above. New media are often contrasted to “old media”, such as television, radio, and print media, although scholars in communication and media studies have criticized rigid distinctions based on oldness and novelty. New media does not include television programs (only analog broadcast), feature films, magazines, books, – unless they contain technologies that enable digital generative or interactive processes. Wikipedia and encyclopedia are also considered as new media because of combining internet accessible digital text, images and video with web-links, creative participation of contributors, interactive feedback of users and formation of a participant community of editors and donors for the benefit of non-community readers.
Timeline of Media would help us know the history of technology, of how people before deliver their message to the people they missed, people who they want to send information. Before, they were just painting in caves to record or draw the series of events. As time passes by, typewriters and printing press were invented for everyone who wants to print information for everyone. Until such time Electronic Age came, computers were discovered that has essential use to store information. Presently, The New Media has been discovered this is the new form of communicating especially in virtual world by the use of internet. This describes as content available on-demand of internet and e-gadgets.
The use of new media is generally linked with negative implications; however, its growth and popularity should not be taken lightly as its existence has the potential to create learning opportunities in a platform. With this advantage in mind, the lesson that was discussed by our teacher made me understand and realize a lot of things. Such as, we who use media should be media literate so as to not be able to use media as a tool to harm others, but to bring awareness to everyone. With us being media literate, the virtual or web world would become a much better and beautiful world that can be able to benefit everyone.
New Media in the Twentieth Century
In the 20th Century, Technology began to change very rapidly. Scientists and engineers began to develop ways to create networks after the first supercomputers were created in 1940. This would later lead to the birth of the Internet.
CompuServe, the earliest forms of the Internet, was developed in the 1960s. Primitive forms of the email were also developed during this time. By the 70s, networking technology had improved, and 1979’s Usenet allowed users to communicate through a virtual newsletter.
In 1980, home computers were becoming more common and social media was becoming more sophisticated. Internet relay chats were first used in 1988 and continued to be popular well into the 1990s.
The first recognizable social media site, Six Degrees, was created in 1997. It enabled users to upload a profile and make friends with other users. In 1999, the first blogging sites became popular, creating a social media sensation that’s still popular today.
The evolution of media, from old to new, has transformed the way we understand the world around us. New media is interactive and is user-generated while old media is a more traditional way of communicating through television, radio, newspapers, magazines, books, etc. It gives us a new perspective by allowing us to interact with one another through the Internet. Media has become much more personal and diverse as user-generated content becomes more prominent in our lives.
The Evolution of New Media
In our world where technology has been prominent, people have always relied on communication to strengthen their relationships. Interacting with friends and family across long distances has been achieved through media. Media has been convenient in people’s lives today and looking back to how it was developed says a lot about how the world changed since technology has been adopted.
Tracing back to the roots of media, it was said that the earliest methods of communicating across great distances used written correspondence delivered by hand from one person to another. In other words, they used letters. These letters were sent through postal services which started in 550 B.C.
In 1792, the telegraph was invented. This allowed messages to be delivered over a long distance faster and was considered a revolutionary way to convey news and information.
In 1890, the telephone was invented. A year after, in 1891, the radio was invented. Telephone lines and radio signals enabled people to communicate across great distances instantaneously.
In the 1940s, computers were invented. A machine that was used as a medium to use media efficiently. In the 1960s, the earliest form of the internet was developed. Following a decade later, in the 1970s, Advanced technologies have been developed and the decade was known as the “Age of Technology”.
In the 1980s, New media started. Where means of communication was achieved through digital technologies such as the Internet. From then on, other media were developed. Google was created in 1998. Facebook was created in 2004 and Youtube in 2005. And in 2010, new forms of social media were developed.
The Media has influenced individuals on their way of living especially today that technology is widely used. It has helped people live an efficient and convenient life.
Media refers to the tools of mass communication. Media today consists of television, Internet, cinema, newspapers, radio, magazines, direct mail, fax, and the telephone. Viewers can see some form of pictorial representation of messages through certain types of broadcasting and advertising. Images are visual representations, pictures, graphics, and include video, movies. Images are very useful in media to help get across messages effectively.
Media influence has become so powerful today that they can easily influence people positively and/or negatively. We also live in a society that depends on the media as a source of entertainment and information. Indeed, the media images affect both individuals and society which includes women, men, teenagers and younger children.
Today, our life will remain incomplete without media. For example, it provides an easy means of communication where people are able to contact friends and family from another side of the world. At the same time, media like television, radio and the Internet enhance our knowledge by providing access to information from all over the world. We can also receive different types of news or daily events through media, almost instantly, for example, through the Internet.
Generally, media has really played its role in each of us. The use of media can be both positive and negative to the individual or society. In a positive way, media makes our lifestyle easier, for example, we can get to know what is going on out there, locally or globally, within a short space of time. Even though there are so many benefits from media, we have to be careful not to let them influence us unknowingly. We need to be wise when using the media.
New Media are forms of media that are native to computers, computational and rely on computers for redistribution. Some examples of new media are shown above. We know that media, in all its forms, is the collective term for every outlet we use to communicate information. This can be seen everywhere, as wherever we are, wherever we go - there is information.
As you are reading this right now, you are using media to access information: Tumblr is a form of media. The internet is a part of media, but there is so much more than just the internet.
Join me as we explore the various stages and forms media has been represented as, as we seek to understand how and why media has come to be through its evolution in this timeline:
Personally, I believe media shouldn't just be referred to as a singular, linear phenomena - as opposed to the actual straight line my timeline shows, but rather as the complex evolution of human means of transmitting information:
Media evolved alongside us. The moment we began to think and share ideas was the moment media first started to take shape: as the simple markings and drawings our ancestors wrote to represent what they thought and to show to others what they wanted to mean. The markings on the wall soon turned into letters on tablets as we learned to write what we spoke, and what we wrote soon turned into mass articles of information that was intended to be shared to the public in far and wide-reaching messages and so on.
As humanity began to innovate and invent, newer outlets for media was created - from the inventions made in the Industrial Period to the initiatives founded by early innovators and pioneers of digital technology. As we seek new ways to better ourselves and our world, media improves alongside us as it has been with us since the start in humanity's endeavor for advancement.
New Media is just another term for media's use in this stage of human history, as we begin to share and actively take part in the world's events and become more interconnected as people through the internet and in social media.
The History of New Media
We are at the very beginning of a transformative communications revolution where technology has enabled the "un-tethering" of the masses from fixed communications points. The cell phone, lap top computer and wireless Internet have made communications mobile and persistent.
In this timeline, we are going to discuss the evolution of media generation to generation. This include how media is used during the Pre- Industrial age, Industrial age, Information age. and Electronic age.
Success
“ Real success is something we should all strive to attain. In the world we live in today, we have equated success to riches, prosperity, fortunes, cars, houses and so many mundane things. Real success is way beyond the physical things we can see, real success is all about the feeling of satisfaction we get when we accomplish a task or do something, it is the happiness we get just by remembering what we have achieved and how we did it, real success has to do with a lot of positive feelings about ourselves and pride in what we have been able to do. For one to be successful, the first and most important thing one needs to do is to set goals. Only through the setting of goals can one really have something to pursue and claim success when we got those things or meet the set goals and target. A very important ingredient in achieving real success is determination. It is important that we get all the skills that are required for us to be successful in our chosen field.”
A major depressive disorder. Depression causes feelings of sadness and loss of interest in all activities. Depression is a common and a serious medical illness. It can lead to a variety of emotional, physical problems, the difficulty thinking, concentrating or making decisions and many more.
Untreated depression increases the chance of risky behaviors such as alcohol addiction or drug. It also can ruin relationships, cause problems at work or school, and make it difficult to overcome serious illnesses.
Depression affects many people, especially the teenagers, no matter what their background. It can affect people of all ages as well and depression can lead to suicide.
Corruption is a form of dishonesty or criminal activity undertaken by a person or organization entrusted with a position of authority, often to acquire illicit benefit, or, abuse of entrusted power for one's private gain. It has many different shapes as well as many various effects, both on the economy and the society at large. Most of the time politicians are the one who violate this crime.
Their are many factors that why politicians tend to corrupt. One of it's factor because of the greed of money that they desires. Another factor is the high levels of bureaucracy and inefficient administrative structures. Lastly is the weak civil participation and low political transparency.
But we could provide solutions for corruption. We should promote political transparency and access to information. Also we should empower the citizens because it will help to build mutual trust between people and government. Lastly reform public administration and finance management because it will improves the financial management and strengthening the role of auditing agencies. I hope that these words could be put into action.
Hazing: nonviolent way
A hazardous social issues in school. No one has the right to torture you whether you are guilty or not. Hazing, also found in several colleges and universities, has been a lingering problem that has caused the loss of several young lives in the past decades.
Hazing only promotes a culture of violence and revenge. Those who have undergone acts of hazing would most likely also want to do the same to the next batch of recruits. This cycle goes on and on, destroying young lives or losing them in the process. Don't you feel guilty if you hurt someone else? There are sure ways to stop hazing instead of doing violent reactions. Like the following suggestions in my research fraternities can be engage and encourage and other associations to develop a reading program that assists non-readers in public schools, Assign a recruit to a certain village or subdivision and ask him or her to write letters to the homeowners asking them for donations of books that can still be used at our public school libraries and all new recruits will be brought to a barangay and they will be tasked to develop a program to help maintain the cleanliness of the community.
Hazing is destroying one's life. People must stop violent actions to prevent this kind of actions. There are sure ways to prevent hazing that can't hurt someone else.
