Go Yeongeun didn't know what to expect when she'd first been handed the directive to enter the Figurine Darkness by herself.
'The Figurine Darknessโฆ?'
She didn't know what to expect. There wasn't much information in the booklet she was handed either; only that it was a C-Grade Darkness, as well as the identities of the employees who'd once-escaped it before.
At least the survival rate was high.
As for what dangers lay inside... Maybe a collection of mannequins, perhaps. Or something worse.
Knowing Daydream, it was probably the latter.
She'd seen more than her fair share of horror movies, so moving mannequins that suddenly came to life were a trope she was familiar with. It didn't mean that she wasn't terrified of them, or that the Darkness wouldn't be terrifying in itself, however; though she found a silver of comfort knowing that she could anticipate some of her adversariesโ forms.
She adjusted her suit, smoothing the lapels, and reached toward the doll that would transport her. Her fingers trembled slightly as she tapped it.
Fwoosh...
'Puah!'
Her throat tightened. She couldnโt breathe. She tried to part her lips, to call out, but they refused to move. Panic clawed at her chest; she was suffocating.
Then a bright light bloomed in front of her. It grew, spreading across the room as the cabinet door swung open. A massive face appeared, features vaguely familiar, looming above her. Her blood ran cold.
It was...

'Lee Seonghae!'
Lee Seonghae was a good person. She understood how the Darkness worked too... she'd been one of the first ones to clear it previously, after all! She could save Yeongeun.
Most Yihak ships are Hilarious and Possible because Yihak is absolutely Impossible and Hilarious.
Let me break this down.
Yihak/Nasol: really good. Jaded wrangler and unruly horse who listens to no one. Nasol tells her to jump and Yihak says, I'm not a dog. That will cost you. Nasol names a price. Yihak asks how high, but still threatens to sell Nasol's info if she doesn't actually get paid
Yihak/Soleum: unwilling mob boss and his overenthusiastic goon. Literally the amount of respect she held for him is almost comical. She thinks of him as this big shot high stakes gambler, meanwhile Soleum is Weirded Out and wants nothing to do with her because he knows she'll sell him out for a gold bar if the opportunity arises. Also hilarious is how Soleum tried acting like an "unhinged MZ (Gen z)" to Avoid Being Caught Giving A Damn to his batch mate (which failed spectacularly bc he cannot hide his sweetness and Kwak Jaekang is too much of a freak to Not notice), but Yihak is just. Naturally like that. The real unhinged MZ.
Yihak/Seonghae: 100% believe they will Butt Heads. Weird moralistic high strung lady x unhinged MZ-er who'd do anything for a sliver of gold. The high point here is that they're both incredibly intense people, Seonghae is a very tightly wound spring, ready to jump at the slightest provocation and Yihak is just a firecracker that never stops sparking. She also has the audacity to go toe to toe with Seonghae imo (esp w how she acted with Nasol)
Yihak/Yeongeun: sorry in advance to my sweet mint treat Yeongeunie, but I just think it would be really funny... I do think that Yihak would initially treat her the same as she did Baek Saheon, but the difference here is Yeongeun would fight back especially considering the fact that they're likely to be same aged peers. Yeongeun of course, would treat Yihak with mild disdain, especially with her gold chasing ways, but Yeongeun being Yeongeun would still try to treat her fairly and with civility (as she did with Baek Saheon... Hold onโ). I think this would intrigue Yihak a bit because she seems to see most relationships as transactional, and from what little we've seen of her, she's always paired with people who tend to go for the highest clear reward (e.g. Soleum, Nasol). I don't think Yeongeun can fix her at all, but... Maybe she would be humbled a lil bit...
Tearing up a little bit thinking of Solyeong's friendship and bond...

Mutual trust & respect
Go Yeongeun was the first person in this world to fully trust and believe in Kim Soleum, because as she said, she'd "rather follow someone kind", to the point of being the first to step out of that train car after hearing Soleum's reasoning. This continues as he solidifies his rapport with her. Even if Yeongeun knows what he's doing is ridiculous or outrageous and even a danger to himself, she has immense trust and respect for him and his weird process/plans because, as she thought to herself in MOTB, he "hasn't led her astray before."
In turn, Kim Soleum also has so much confidence in her and her capabilities, always admiring her calmness and composure, which he must recognize to be the result of her incredible self restraint, and probably past experiences. He always sees what she's doing in the background and lauds her for her compassion and incredible competence in helping and treating others, and how her quick wit, good sense and decisive nature allows her to take charge in certain situations, like getting the civilian kids they're rescuing in order, boosting their morale in trying times. Whenever Yeongeun is around, and readily assists her fellow survivors, he'd always think "so reliable". He can breathe a sigh of relief knowing someone with a good head on her shoulders was on his side. He respects her so much in fact, that to him, her making a mistake (under normal circumstances) was nearly unfathomable. In the Looky Mart arc, for example, when he was recalling how dire the conditions were that if they had to stick around any longer, everyone would inevitably make mistakes, "even Go Yeongeun", which I find to be really sweet, because he's held onto this belief ever since MOTB I feel. Any other typical daydream employee (like that one supervisor who died at sekwang) would've written her off as incompetent or "dispensable" after being sacrificed by her superior in MOTB or being led astray by her senior agent in Looky Mart. But he knew, that in MOTB her boss was the jerk who pushed a well-intentioned rookie into the line of danger, while in Looky Mart, she had little leg room due to being a spy, she couldn't just defy her senior on one of her first missions...
Mutual understanding
Having worked alongside each other for some time, they've come to understand each other quite well, particularly when it comes to the traits they both share.
Kim Soleum frequently denies this about himself, but Go Yeongeun, being someone frequently lauded for her kindness, is fully aware of how kind her coworker truly is, often to a fault. I mentioned before how both she and Haje feel this way about him, "Kim Soleum is too kind for his own good." She knows the lengths he goes through to help people, to cover for them, and the sacrifices he makes for other people, and conversely, how little rewards he'd reap from them.
In MOTB, for example he lied to his own squad in order to get both her and Baek Saheon to escape as well, so that they wouldn't be abandoned. He didn't really need her to hold the candle for him, he could've asked any of his squad mates. She also told him off to not be too nice in corporate environments, and not to be too kind to others, lest he gets taken lightly, to which Soleum denies internally, claiming that it's a misunderstanding/she's overestimating him. But we already know that D squad, Director Ho and Kwak Jaekang are already aware of his nature, and thaat he's already being taken advantage of by Ho Yuwon anyway.
Similarly, I think Soleum recognizes just how much of Yeongeun's calmness and composure is borne of great effort and incredible self restraint. It's not that she's not scared, but she just hides it really well. She shows a lot of restraint, and consciously makes the decision to maintain her composure, regarding it as her specialty. I do think that's also why Soleum feels a strong sense of camaraderie with her.
And over time, they were able to read each other well enough. Go Yeongeun was able to follow along with Kim Soleum's thought process and plans, and similarly Kim Soleum learned how to read her actions and expressions better. The brief conversations they'd have with each other, where they just sit side by side, commiserating with each other as they mull over work and think about their next move, are really nice...
They look out for each other
Since they both understand each other so well, they come to look out for each other whenever they're working together.
Yeongeun has incredible self restraint, but there are times where she really can't hold it in, because she's very passionate and feels very strongly, so there are times where Soleum has to remind her to hold it in a bit, lest she gets punished for insubordination or something similar. He gets how she feels, he often shares similar sentiments, but he knows she would likely regret it later.
For example, she couldn't help but get mad at Ryu Jaekwan for being what she judged to be an irresponsible superior who lacked gratitude, especially considering what horrors she witnessed Kim Soleum go through... And knowing what he had to give up. She was literally so ready to argue with him, she had more than a few choice words... But held it in after KSE diffused the situation.
Similarly with Director Ho, she was shocked upon hearing about the "punishment", and was about to emotionally respond, before Kim Soleum gently signaled her to hold it in...
And when it comes to Soleum helping her, a particular scene comes to mine, and just a disclaimer: this is just my personal interpretation so do take this with a grain of salt!
So the scene in question, took place in Looky Mart, when they were just settling outside the tent to plan their next move... (after Kim Soleum's Fun Arm Barbecue), and Soleum tried to convince her to go with him to find Bronze, and she reluctantly agreed. Soleum thanked her, and she retorted saying she should be the one thanking him because if it weren't for Soleum, she would have died on that stairwell. And while this definitely refers to Soleum de-contaminating her with those churros, I feel that she's not just thanking him for that, but also for helping her out of her passive suicidal ideation (she tried convincing him and the kid that it was hopeless for her, so she might as well serve as decoy). He just flat out refused to go with it, and instead of saying anything else, he pulled the kid forward, and asked her to help him treat his injury. Yeongeun is someone with a lot of pride, so this was the way to do it. He didn't say much, he just appealed to her compassion because he knew her, she couldn't refuse treating an injured person. And it actually worked, this time while she still refused to join them, citing the risks, she actually said she'll wait for a rescue instead, because she still didn't want to be a liability to them. Eventually, she relented when he brought out the candle, and factually said that she was the only one who could handle it at this time (with him being labeled non-human and the kid being injured and unstable).
The point here is that, Soleum basically convinced her that she was in fact, still needed, that she wasn't just dead weight and actually had a pivotal role in getting them around and possibly out, and that escape was possible!
On the other hand, Soleum, while usually meticulous with his plans, can often be reckless with a general disregard for his personal safety (guy thinks hacking his limbs off is a foolproof plan). That's why, even though she knows he's fully capable of taking care of himself, Yeongeun often throws little reminders to not get himself too carried away, to be careful (e.g. in MOTB) and would even disagree with his plans if it poses too much risk (e.g. in Looky Mart). Being someone who was in the medical field, she expressed shock and concern upon learning he was discharged a mere 1 week after literally having his arm chopped off, and also happens to be one of the only two people in the story who recommended him for counseling, as in, to get some psychiatric help, because she knows he needs it.
Outside of work, Go Yeongeun also consistently sent him congratulatory messages whenever he achieved an impressive feat at work (chapter 87). IIRC she was also the one who added him to the new recruits' group chat, so really... It's safe to say that she was his first ever friend, or friendly colleague in this world.
The point is...
I really like seeing them interact. Both Soleum and Yeongeun are characters who are very dear to me, so it's always a treat seeing them together. They're a pair of really supportive friends, who always try to have each other's backs! And I hope Soleum realizes he's got a friend in Yeongeun too! She may not understand him as deeply, but she cares for him just as he does her...

Soleumsaheonpodo.... I find the ship soleum x saheon x grape agent to be SO funny bc Saheon's so head over heels falling for Grape Agent who saved him once (though understandable) and he's still very much terrified of Soleum who's given him lots of items.... also I love saheon harem โค๏ธ
