Hey look! It’s me! Actively laughing about it and making snarky comments!
It was 11:11
For the first time
My wish wasn’t for you
We both didn’t know how to swim
And we were both drowning in each others arms
Noramlly it’s okay to cry
Good even
Because boys dont cry
And look at you youre crying
That’s so brave of you
Look at you crying
Crying is so femine
Girls dont’ cry
That’s not very lady like
Look at you ruining your pretty little face
Girls don’t cry
Boys don’t cry
No one can cry
I was a star
I fell so far
I did it
All for you
I gave my name
What I became
I did it
All for you
I’m sorry for
Smelling like cigarettes and roses
And for laughing too loud
And speaking too softly
And for having shaky hands
When you begin to waste beautiful words on me
That we’re meant for someone else
I have once again found myself
Kneeling on the laundry
In an unfolded pile on the floor
As I pray to a God who’s never saved me before
I love you said he
Forever to said she
Is that few? Said he
Till the sun said she
Will you run? Said he
If it’s fun said she
This world is full of poets
You were a chorus unto yourself
You were my favorite poem
Now that seems as all you are
Once on a white piece of paper with a green grid all over
He wrote a story
He called it “fire and water” because that was what he liked
And that's what it was all about
And his teacher gave him a 10/10
and a smiley face by his name
And his mother put it on the fridge right near his brothers math test with a big A on it
and read it to his grandparents
That was the year that Father Lantom took all the kids to the high line
And he let them talk and laugh on the way
And that was the year they adopted a cat
with black fur and white paws
And his mother and father went out every Saturday night and they kissed a lot
And his best friend that he loved so much came around every day
His friend told him he was extraordinary
and he had to ask his father what that word meant
And his mother always sung to him before bed
And his father would always read him his favorite story
And they were always there to do it
Once on a piece of white paper with blue lines and a red margin
he wrote a story
And he called it "rocks"
because that what he liked to collect
And that's what it was all about
And his teacher gave him a 10/10 and told him to make sure he was paying close attention to punctuation and spelling
And his mother didn’t put it on the fridge
because she didn’t like the way her new magnet looked against the red pen ink on the page
And the kids at his school told him
that Father Lantom smoked cigars
and left the ash all over the garden
And sometimes they would burn holes through the plants that the kindergartners tended to
That was the year his kitten got sick
They had to get it a cone and give it medicine that smelled of something rotten
And his best friend laughed when he asked him if he wanted to go to the school dance together
And his parents had to tell him why
And his mother and father kissed a lot
And his mother never sung him lullabies anymore
And she got all angry when he asked her to do it
Once on a paper stollen from his friends notebook
he wrote a story
And he called it "Mercy"
because that was what he wanted
And that's what it was all about
And his professor gave him a 10/10 and a look of pity when he handed it back
And his mother never hung it on the kitchen door
because he left it at the bottom of his backpack
That was the year that Father Lantom died
And he forgot how his favorite song went
And he found his cat dead under his parents bed
And his mother and father never kissed or went out on Saturdays
And his best friend stopped coming around
And at five A.M. he tucked himself into bed
his mother nowhere to be found
That's why on the back of a sandwich wrapper
he tried another story
And he called it "enough" because that's what it was really all about
And he gave himself a 10/10
and a cut on both his wrists
And he hung it on his bedroom door
because this time he didn't think
he could reach the kitchen
