Hello all! Decided to make one of these for myself. A quick introduction for those who are interested:

My name is Halsin, I use any pronouns, and I am a fictive within a system. This page will be for anything I really can think of, and questions are more than welcome! I’ll do my best to answer all of them, and I’d like to keep this page to those over 18, meaning more explicit questions will be allowed as well. Disappointed in the developments regarding Wyll in this recent patch. He deserves just as much love as the rest of the companions, and his story deserves to be told. For those who are stuck in situations because it was their only choice for survival, for those who try desperately to do the right thing even if it’s detrimental to themself purely because it’s the right thing to do. For those who want that storybook romance, that slow burn love, for those on the asexual spectrum or the aromantic spectrum or even those who don’t want something as sexual as what you get with the other companions. Just because he is not as “popular” or didn’t have as explosive a fan base as companions like Astarion does not mean he doesn’t deserve the same work put into him and his story.

We know why he actually isn’t getting the same treatment. Do better Larian.

I don't ever partake in drama on here, and I don't want to bring it here, but I did this on twitter and I'm doing it here too because I want lesbians to stay safe:

@/autistichalsin has been repeatedly lesbiphobic in the past despite being a lesbian themselves. He seems to think that being a lesbian excuses lesbiphobia. It doesn't. In short, he's accused lesbians of being terfs, specifically Minthara fans who are lesbians.

And I have proof.

I'll put screenshots of my previous post, which is a lot, about how this all started on twitter.

I have proof, I'm not saying all this without having proof. Accusing someone of bigotry is never something to take lightly.

Here's the terf accusations. And the 'hating halsin is queerphobia' for some reason

Talking about us being terfs again with someone spilling the "lesbians are potential terfs" rhetoric, which is lesbiphobic and really fucking harmful. Theres 0 proof of us EVER being terfs, and many of us literally fall under the trans umbrella ourselves. We're terfs just for being lesbians, basically. Whatever "terfy" thing we've said wasn't terfy, it was probably just something to do with not liking men. Because, yknow, lesbians aren't attracted to men.

And the whole thinking women who sleep with men are tainted accusation. Gross in general. And a stupid thing to accuse seeing as a lot of my mutuals are literally bi or pan...

Claiming that me and my friends don't care about those anti lgbt and racist mods, or oppression in the fandom in general, we only care about lesbiphobia.

When we do, we've tweeted about it, but of course he hasn't seen any Minthara fans talk about it, because we're all blocked. The algorithm caters to your interests and shows you things based on that. It's obviously not going to show them people who like Minthara, just like it didn't show me any Halsin fans talking about those mods. But am I accusing Halsin fans of not caring? No, not at all, because the algorithm.

Oh look even more accusations without the proof to back it up. Autistichalsin will call us anything in order to play the victim card. He is the one throwing around accusations and just not being nice about lesbians in general. Not once have I seen any of my mutuals be serious about 'hating minthara is lesbiphobia.' But here we are being accused of all that, for *checks notes* being lesbians who like Minthara...

I haven't said a single thing without proof, and nor have I seen any of us accuse someone of lesbiphobia for calling Shadowheart bi. I have no idea who that was, but they'll spring it on us to make us seem like the villains and keep playing the victim card.

I also have people who reached out to me on Twitter and told me what his discord server is like. In short, it's gross, full of triggering things, they're always complaining about Minthara and her fans, and always talking about lesbians. Autistichalsin's little group also stalked one of my mutuals. Said mutual is a lesbian and autistichalsin said "halsin can fix her." I have screenshots.

I'd link the twitter thread but it won't let me, and I've reached max 10 images since I'm on the app, so, my @ on twitter is lolthminthara if anyone wants to find the thread. I haven't said a single lie, nor a false accusation. And there's more in that thread than there is here.

I just want lesbians to feel safe in the bg3 fandom but apparently they can't, especially on twitter, because people like that roam free and play victim when called out.

I think something that’s a little under-explored with Halsin is how his mindfulness of the player’s boundaries and all the checking-in he does is actually a manifestation of his own history *and* his insecurities. Bc in his confession scene, it’s very sweet and on the surface, you might think “Aw it’s nice that he’s so respectful of your boundaries and choices” but… to me, it sounds like a person who’s scared of being rejected, and is trying to take control of the rejection and make it easier for themselves. A lot of people (in game) talk about Halsin like he’s just a big hunk of meat, and he alludes to being aware that people see him like that and come to the conclusion that he’s got nothing else going on in his head, no feelings to be hurt, no emotions to share, etc. He’s also had to actively hide and repress his more messy side, so he can step up to the leadership role that was suddenly pushed onto him.

All of this manifests as him being overly respectful and cautious with the player, but you can see a peek of his real feelings if you choose to accept his confession. First, he admits he’s nervous like a lovelorn ninety year old, and later, in the romance scene, when you approach him… like ok firstly, Dave Jones acted his ass off okay, like you can tell he put so much thought into this scene. It’s sweet (and a little silly if you choose the bear), but as he said in the Dan Allen Gaming interview, he still wanted it to have seriousness and gravitas bc it’s still a romantic moment. And oh my GOD it SHOWS. You can hear how breathless and nervous Halsin is. His voice even shakes a bit in the beginning, like it’s going to break. He wants the player, so much, and he’s so relieved that you came because he didn’t think you would. He thought you’d change your mind, or you were just toying with his feelings. He was so afraid!! And nervous!! Which I’m so emotional about, genuinely, because he was so confident when telling you “don’t expect to get much sleep”.

And to me, I think, Halsin hides his vulnerability about romance/sex by being “open” about it. Some people will hide and make it pretty obvious they’re hiding something by refusing to answer your questions etc. Halsin is the opposite. He hides by being as open as he can about some things, to make you think there’s nothing he wouldn’t be open about so you don’t try to pry any further, but in truth, what he’s showing is only a carefully curated picture of who he thinks you should see him as. You know: strong, confident, and wise. Like nothing can hurt him. When in truth, he’s just entering his middle age by elf standards (life expectancy for elves is 750 I think in dnd canon), and while he is wise, giving advice is very different from taking it. Plenty of people give excellent wise advice but they struggle to apply it in their own lives.

And I think at least, he’s a very very emotionally sensitive soul. When you make jokes about his appearance, his feelings can get hurt even if he laughs it off (contrasted with Jaheira, whose approval will go up if you make fun of her age for example. Jaheira is laughing with you, but Halsin feels like you’re laughing at him). He’s also very emotion-driven. Although he does feel responsibility towards Thaniel and the shadow curse, responsibility alone wouldn’t drive a man to go to such great lengths to reverse it. He spent a hundred years doing research, he went *alone* into the most dangerous parts of the shadowfell. And after the shadow curse is lifted, he follows *you* to Baldur’s Gate. Not because he has any true responsibility to it, except in the vague sense that he shouldn’t let the Absolute take over bc that would be bad for nature probably, but because he just genuinely cares about you and feels deeply for you and your cause. He hates the city, and he hates everything that comes with the city, but he loves you, so he goes anyway.

Also this is like different from being in tune with his emotions. I think he’s more in tune than a lot of the other companions (especially if you compare him to the likes of astarion and lae’zel), but I don’t think he’s very honest about it all the time. He is generally honest, but some feelings are ones he struggles to ever admit to himself or others (that he can feel weak sometimes, that he can feel helpless, that he can feel sad or despondent). He tries to put on this face of “things were hard, but they never fazed me” (see: when he talks about his 3 years spent as a sex slave) and he only ever gets vulnerable with the player a few times, but he still does it in such a self-deprecating way. You can really see it when he explains his feelings about the shadow curse. He doesn’t get too deep into how he felt—in fact, he even implies that his feelings of sadness and regret are what held him back from fixing his “mistake”. He doesn’t give himself very much grace when it comes to feelings, despite the fact that he feels so strongly and intensely. Maybe it’s even *because* he feels things so intensely.

Anyway this was super meandering but like in summary: Halsin is emotionally sensitive, and also has some insecurities that he is very very good at hiding. He rarely ever lies, but he does walk that thin line between the whole truth and the easiest truth to swallow. He struggles to share his vulnerable side because people have never really cared about that, they only want the gigantic hunky elf or the wise, stoic archdruid, but never Halsin.

Update: it was overall a pleasant experience. The clouds were gorgeous and I got to sleep some. It was a bit crowded, and the snacks left much to be desired.

Also the rattling/rocking from side to side when first taking off was a bit nerve racking.
