look, not to play toby jones’ advocate here but, I mean… they did? like, yeah, it’s a little bit of a cop out by the writers but it’s not exactly beyond the realm of reason that crowley and aziraphale would love humanity and earth and creation enough to want to save it?

that between the war and selfishness and bullshit there’s love and trust and music and dim sums and stars and love and community and bravery and really good wine and love and more love and those little umbrellas you put in cocktails and all this is worth saving? that aziraphale, sometimes naively but always wholeheartedly, loves it and always tries to preserve that, and crowley loves it enough that he decides he cannot run anymore and they both make that choice together.

and they can still love each other AND humanity, that they spent 6000 years sometimes despairing humanity’s cruelty and evil but also loving it for all the good we also possess. and if God doesn’t care enough to love us or doesn’t love us enough to care, then they bloody well will.

I get and somewhat agree it’s not a satisfying ending in terms of their true love story, but I still think it’s a sweet ending.

I also like to think and chose to believe, even if it’s pretend and not what the writers intended, that the Somewhere Else versions of them are still in some way Them. humanity’s greatest protectors, the very best of us, not because they are perfect, not because they don’t do wrong, but because after 6000 years they know us and they are us. they are an angel and a demon but also, in all the ways that matter, human.

and in any case, as I said before, no matter how good the ending were gonna be, a random fanfic writer is at this very moment writing an even better ending, my trust is always in yall 🫡

in the middle of my 7 hour solo drive home but I had to stop in the middle of it to write down my thoughts so I’m sat in my car on a little side road writing this lol

do I think it was, in general, a good ending? yeah.

do I think it was a good ending in regards to the deep, meticulous, emotional analysis of the lore and arc of Crowley and Aziraphale? not really.

do I think fandom read more into something than was probably was intended? often.

do I think the writers could stand to dig a little deeper to put a little more soul into the characters and their story? absolutely. I’ll even let them borrow my shovel.

in conclusion? the curtains might be blue but death of the author so come here and help me tear them down so we can strangle the writers

no matter what happened a random fanfic writer were gonna make a far better ending anyway, my trust were always in yall 🫡

also for some reason I’m currently most irked by Aziraphale being called Asa Fell. let him have an obnoxious fucking name like “Aziraphale” despite being completely human you cowards
