omg wait bandcamp friday tomorrow
i think that probably the problem is due to my various neuroses which make any sort of interaction with a teacher/demonstrator feel like a life-or-death encounter with someone who thinks i should be put down. and the nature of this course is such that the tutors will keep fucking talking to me
i don't know what it is about this unit that makes me so genuinely upset, but let me tell you, it makes it very difficult to actually complete the work. which is necessary to move on with my miserable life, such as it is

sometimes i feel ive got to
run away
desperately out of practice at doing things i want to because in the last six months i got so used to not having my own space to work that now that i have one again, i don't know what to do with myself
1 thing (among many...) i do miss about the city is being able to book gp appointments online

Extremely funny sentence
living in your parents house as an adult is a humiliation ritual why am i in the group chat at 23 years old going “I HATE MY DAD”
i wish more people talked about the political undertones in the phm book.
What i've been thinking about recently is the way Andy "Apolitical" Weir hardcore stereotypes each nationality he represents. the Chinese officials are spying on our scientists. the Russian officers are 80% vodka. this Dutch/German is stern. whatever the fuck was going on with that Canadian. like ok my man we GET it. even if we didn't know anything about Weir, we can clearly deduce this book was written by an American from its sheer lack of self-awareness, especially when it comes to stereotypes about Americans-- you ever talk to a non-american who witnessed american behavior in the wild?
Andy Weir (probably) pictures himself, and by extension Grace, as the Normal and Default, and so he doesn't portray any American quirks or stereotypical behavior (other than the "Thinking In Imperial", which doesn't really extend to outside of Grace's head) However, in doing so, Weir is actually inadvertently portraying an American who is totally oblivious to his own behavior and biases. Which is, I would say, the prototypical American behavior. Weir just didn't know he was writing a stereotypical American because he was just portraying himself a Regular Guy.
so by criticizing the american-centric mindset, I'm sorry to say, Weir has, on a technicality, stumbled into being pretty woke. Unfortunate. he won't let it happen again
He turned himself into a BURGER do you HEAR me. Not a single acknowledgement that thats the most fucking american food choice ever??? The human crew to do second contact finds out the American scientist who Heroically Gave His Life and got blasted into space landed on an alien planet and immediately explained the concept of A BURGER ??? SO THEY COULD MAKE ONE FOR HIM?? OUT OF HIM???
recent epidemic of adaptations that take lots of liberties with the source material and also, separately, are bad. but then if you say "this is bad" you get hit with "you're just being a source material purist and you don't understand the vision"...like. well actually I think it rules when people do new and different things with classic works. I just think these particular new and different things suck ass.
the thing about fandom is it tends to thrive on unanswered questions and doors left open. space to make up your own bullshit and theorize and headcanon. so to an extent i understand why shipping Two Guys Who Stand Next To Eachother is always so overwhelmingly popular because like. well if you know the writers are never gonna go there then it basically becomes your city now. you're the giant rat who makes all the yaoi. i can't really deny the appeal.

i'm not going so this isn't me providing too much personal information again, but if you know anyone who's going to be in syd in august & is even vaguely interested in sewing, the sewing basket is having their annual big basket sale on the 21st & 22nd. i haven't been to one before, but i like going to their regular stores (where i got my fish fabric. which i will make into a shirt eventually). and i want to live vicariously through others
WHAT ARE YALL READING RN you must tell me
All that's required for a post to accurately be characterised as your "quick thoughts" on its topic is that it was quick for you to write. Whether it's quick for anyone else to read is 100% their problem.
