Breathtaking Aerial Photos of New York City at Night Captured From 7,500 Feet

Renowned French American photographer Vincent Laforet recently embarked on the photo mission of a lifetime when he soared 7,500 feet in a helicopter above New York City to capture breathtaking aerial photos of the glittering cityscape at night. Held in only by a full-body harness, leaning out of the chopper over a dizzying expanse of darkness and tiny pinpoints of light, the photographer says his experience was “both exhilarating and terrifying” and “the scariest… and the most beautiful” flight of his career.

The Living Staircase

This spiral staircase conceived by London designer Paul Cocksedge will feature balustrades overflowing with plants and circular spaces where employees of a new office building in London’s Soho dedicated to creative businesses can take time out from their work.

The design concept is for a staircase that is about “more than a means of moving from floor to floor”. By widening the diameter of the spiral and excluding the central column, there will be enough space to create three circular platforms that can be used as social spaces.

Plants and herbs will be sown into the tops of the balustrade. The hope is that employees will turn the greenery into a working garden, adding ingredients to their lunches and making fresh mint tea.
