🌼 character interview: kikyo
— what did you have for breakfast?
She became bashful suddenly and motioned to the empty bowl of rice and the plate where she had consumed fish this morning. The bones were indication enough, along with the few pieces of rice at the bottom of her ceramic bowl.
— what can you cook perfectly?
Light filled her eyes and suddenly she gathered an Eorzean cookbook. After a flipping through a few marked pages, she finally revealed one that had a picture of a grilled cheese sandwich! She mastered it! Out of the many dishes to be proud of – she chose this.
— if you could choose a pet, what would it be?
Kikyo suddenly shows one of her pieces of origami, an owl she created. An owl was nocturnal, it could keep watch as she slept, and kept – things away. After all, it was a symbol of luck.
— how is your relationship with your parents?
Pain came to her suddenly and water filled the basin of her eye; she withdrew from answering, their deaths was something still fresh in her heart. But there was love there, as she forced a smile, amid the threat of tears.
— what is your favorite read?
Kikyo signals with her hands the word ‘everything’ with a bright smile upon her lips.
— do you put both socks on first, or one sock, one shoe?
She points to one sock, and then one shoe. One at a time.
— do you fold your clothes before bed?
Shuffling quietly before her futon, stacked with folded silks, she bows her head and smiles. It was not only her own clothes, but the laundry she cleaned for the family that day.
— how do you feel about marriage?
There is hesitance in her smile and her eyes are directed elsewhere whilst she communicated with her hands, ‘A dream, not meant for one like me.’
— who was the last person you crushed on?
There was no one. And she simply stared forth in slight confusion.
— what does your dream home look like? and where would it be?
Her eyes turned to one of the books, something illustrated with watercolor and inks. It was quaint, surrounded by blooms and a small pond with a bridge. It was grandiose by any means, cozy, comfortable. Delicate fingers brushed over the painting before a gentle expression painted her visage.
— what’s your worst habit?
Slender fingers found the purchase of her hanfu; her thoughts of self-worth were intrusive, something she fell back on when he reminded her of what she was. Her fingers began to speak on her behalf.
[ “Listening to the demons in my mind.” ]
— what do you do for a living and how do you feel about your job?
Cradling her wicker basket of flowers, Kikyo wears her smile as genuine as possible, to her this brought joy, offering something so fragile, so delicate, to lighten someone’s day. Yes, the job was not going to get her rich, but she was rich off the happiness they give to her in return.
