Litany Against Fear
I will not fear Fear is the mind-killer I will face my fear I will let it pass through me When the fear has gone There shall be nothing Only I will remain
The Strengthening continues, wish I could put more time into it
This will be my monument, this will a beacon when I'm gone
Soulless people make soulless decisions
What? To steal from the Empire? What do you need? A uniform, some dirty hands, and an Imperial tool kit.
They're so proud of themselves, they don't even care. They're so fat and satisfied, they can't imagine it.
That someone like me would ever get inside their house, walk their floors, spit in their food, take their gear.
BREAKING — we're reporting extreme levels of jacked, theorized to have existed only in the before times (pre-COVID-19)
Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never — in nothing, great or small, large or petty — never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense.
Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
The Holdovers (Alexander Payne, 2023)
It drives me mad how often I come across unadulterated worship of the SF tech charlatans "rushing" toward AGI. If they actually had the power they wanted, they'd fucking kill you dude.
To the social parasite (implies malevolence, not directed at the truly needy), the workhorse looks like an alien. Simply inhuman and incomprehensible.
Everything will be all right. And even if it won't be, we'll have the consolation of having lived honest lives.
There are the rushing waves mountains of molecules each stupidly minding its own business trillions apart yet forming white surf in unison
Ages on ages before any eyes could see year after year thunderously pounding the shore as now For whom, for what? On a dead planet with no life to entertain
Never at rest tortured by energy wasted prodigiously by the Sun poured into space A mite makes the sea roar
Deep in the sea all molecules repeat the patterns of one another till complex new ones are formed They make others like themselves and a new dance starts Growing in size and complexity living things masses of atoms DNA, protein dancing a pattern ever more intricate
Out of the cradle onto dry land here it is standing: atoms with consciousness; matter with curiosity.
Stands at the sea, wonders at wondering: I a universe of atoms an atom in the Universe
One day I too shall hold the Mandate of Heaven
Si vis pacem, para bellum If you want peace, prepare for war
Igitur quī dēsīderat pācem, præparet bellum Therefore let him who desires peace prepare for war
But you're so pale And so stale Everything you do is for sale So why should we care Singing why should we care
The lesson of Icarus is not "Don't fly too close to the sun" — it's make better fucking wings. The best way to seize the future is to invent it.
I've always been captivated with the idea of justice. It's what attracted me to engineering in the first place, the sense of right and wrong, that I was in control.
But the truth is, the world is not as simple as we want it to be. It can't just be boiled down into an equation. Especially when it comes to human beings. We are flawed, unpredictable, and full of contradictions.
It's taken me most of my life to realize it's exactly these traits that make us so resilient. That give credence to the improbable idea that anything is possible.
Even in the darkest of times.
Your Honor, I was always told that we shouldn't let personal feelings cloud our search for the truth. But looking back now, I don't think that's right.
Our feelings may not be convenient. They may even slow our progress. But they are also the only way to truly begin to understand the world around us. And the new worlds that await us.
