In June, the Marines' Memorial Club gave a commemorative presentation on the 100 Yr anniversary of the Battle of Jutland. I had to snap a pic of the statuettes of their mascots in the library. I was surprised to find that they serve their own in-house labeled biodynamic Sonoma Valley wines at all their events. A quick snap from a visit by the Tiziana Terenzi team to Barney's in SF. When they asked me my fragrance preferences and I said that I liked chypres, animalics, and leathers, they recommended Laudano Nero and Gold Rose Oudh. A #latergram of a tasting offered by the locally made Fernet Francisco (turns out that one of the founders was on "The Bachelor"). I sampled two of the offerings; one leaned sweet and a bit linear, and the other had a Pacific Northwest approach to strongly aromatic. Fernet is quite popular in San Francisco. First batch of training equipment organized: sparring gear, strength (sandbags, kettle bell, heavy bands), gloves, reflex bags and balls, and first aid. From the EB Florals launch event at Saks, San Francisco. After exploring the line a bit, I felt that the fragrances shared the same DNA...but as siblings with distinct individual personalities. A #latergram from The Henry Wine Group's "Taste the World 2016." Close up of the American whiskey aged in Japanese #mizunara #casks, the Bainbridge Yama Single Grain Japanese Mizunara Cask Whiskey. Bainbridge Distillers named it to honor Yama village, founded on Bainbridge island by first generation Japanese immigrants in 1883. The bulk of profits is slated to benefit efforts to preserve the heritage and #history of the village. The #whiskey is un-chillfiltered, with an ABV of 45% and no added color. Extremely limited release, so none was available for tasting. I recently attended The Henry Wine Group's "Taste the World 2016." First stop for me was the spirits section and the #SignatoryVintage lineup. Offerings included: Edradour 10 Yr and Caledonia 12 Yr, Clynelish 17 Yr ('98), Highland Park 16 Yr ('99), Bruichladdich 23 Yr ('92), and Ben Nevis Cask Strength 23 Yr ('91). I found a bottle of Mackinlay's Shackleton Rare Old Highland Malt (1907) in my bar, and can't for the life of me remember how I acquired it. It is a replica of the #whisky left by Sir Ernest #Shackleton during his 1907 to 1909 #Antarctic #expedition. Recreated by Richard Paterson, it is a blend that reportedly includes #whiskies from #Speyside, some #GlenMhor and #Dalmore, as well as #Orkney #peat. At 47.3% ABV, it has some heat, but is still marmalade/creme brulee creamy. With definite peat. I'm doing a happy dance. #maltwhisky #scotland #scotchwhisky #highlands #whiskey #history
