The original post's frustration has nothing to be sorry about, but the additions do. Nobody expects any tom, dick, and harry to know everything, and usually with a post like this it's clear this is a hypothesis.
The first reply, however, has no sources (but implies that there are some multiple peer-reviewed studies out there showing results like these), OP took them at the word, continued. Fine, okay, this happens on tumblr every day, but we know it's a problem.
Then somebody finds the source (one paper on the subject), and either doesn't read it or doesn't care that the sample size in the first relevant mentioned study makes the results literally MEANINGLESS (3 queer people, 2 straight. That's it!! You extrapolate literally nothing from that! And that wasn't the only problem either!). The second found that the effeminate men DID have higher medium frequency than masculine men (though not higher than American males in general), as well as a significantly greater rate of pitch change, and an insignificantly greater pitch range. The third study ALSO had an abysmally low sample size of 8 whole people (8 gay, 8 straight), and even regardless, everyone sampled (13 random volunteers) matched all of their voices correctly as belonging to a gay or straight person, so it DEFINITELY doesn't suggest that's just what men in general sound like.
All the other papers and studies mentioned don't even address the issue at hand, and are about men's vs women's voices, sometimes simply hypothesising without data.
So no. Studies do not say that. And I would not like this to be yet another un-fact-checked tumblr post spreading misinformation based off of an idea that seems like it Could be right.
Like. Please consider: did every (or even the MAJORITY) of men and boys get vocal training? Is that realistic?
Statistics on voice, speech, language, and swallowing disorders among both adults and children in the U.S.
An estimated 17.9 million U.S. adults ages 18 or older, or 7.6%, report having had a problem with their voice in the past 12 months. Approximately 9.4 million (4.0%) adults report having a problem using their voice that lasted 1 week or longer during the last 12 months.
The only child statistics (which seem more relevant here) that I can find encompass ALL voice, speech, language, or swallowing disorders, and even still:
The prevalence of voice, speech, language, or swallowing disorders is highest among children ages 3-6 (11.0%), compared to children ages 7-10 (9.3%), and children ages 11-17 (4.9%).
Among children ages 3-17 who have a voice, speech, language, or swallowing disorder, those with speech or language problems, 67.6% and 66.8% respectively, are more likely to receive intervention services, compared to those who have a voice disorder (22.8%) or swallowing problems (12.7%).
So how are the majority of men turning out sounding like what we stereotype a 'man' should sound like? They just do. Probably influenced by environmental factors too. But it makes no sense to say 'gay voice' is natural for men actually without voice training, because the vast majority of men haven't HAD any voice training, and a lot of queer men PURPOSEFULLY pick up the gay affect, since it is a signaller.
Voices are varied! And there's nothing wrong with having a more effeminate voice (i myself am mistaken for a woman on the phone all the time, even sometimes in the morning when my voice is gravelly. Don't know why, but it must be something! And I don't like it!!), but that doesn't mean secretly everyone else is the same as you. 'Normal' doesn't necessarily mean 'average' or 'everyone'. Just because it is also normal for men to have higher voices and more effeminate affects doesn't mean that MOST men naturally do.
