“This prohibition 2.0 thing is simply ridiculous. How much harm is a small glass of champagne, a thoroughly angelic drink, really supposed to do? Ring in the apocalypse?”

Tie my heart strings I tie my heart strings off…
“I would figure maybe even one could get us to our stop. People look at maps now like it’s some foreign devise. It’s ridiculous.” A shame too. “Nice to meet you as well, Arina. Always ice to meet a friendly face. Yeah, he was already getting ready so thankfully he remembered.”
“It really raises the question too if the ones who are old enough to have been forced to rely on maps before just forgot about all their past skills in the blink of an eye. Can we really delete acquired skills from our memory that quickly? That’s almost a scary thought.” A frown. “Good, I’m glad that all worked out. My ride might have just abandoned me by the looks of it.” Doe eyes rolled back in their sockets after scanning the area.
“Ah well, I guess if you’d like some company while you wait, I’d be available now?”
“Yes, you’re correct. Thank god for someone that understands home. I’ve found some ways of coping with homesickness thankfully.”
“I feel like all of us foreigners could use someone like that just to feel a little more at home too. Do you mind sharing your knowledge or is it the secret kind? Or maybe just restaurants that sell the right cuisine I’ve missed out on again. It’s a shame how little attention I’ve paid to that sort of stuff in the past.”

“You are quite right with that presumption. No, I’m not Italian. Merely traveling due to work and whatnot and this is where I currently am.”
“Russian indeed then? Us East-Europeans appear to be a rare sight around here nowadays so I’d be delighted to meet a kindred spirit. Oh, that sounds exciting -- but also like it comes with the side effect of being homesick a lot.”
“Go ahead. It’s no use to me. Not that often but enough to become an issue. Guess I got a low tolerance for people’s bullshit these days. It’s not just the Revs. They’ve been good to me so far. It’s just that constant questions that get on my nerves and no one understands its a risk to fly off the handle and tell everyone every detail.”
“Understandably.” Nodding, she allowed slim fingers to curl around the cup. “Have you told them off yet? Like, really told them off? Sounds like they need to be shut down or else they just won’t receive the message.”
“That’s the problem with this day and age isn’t it? It’s always about the technology rather than relying on our own senses. It’s actually pretty sad. Harold means well, but he’s a little manic at best. Thank you. Just a moment.” Ella took the phone and turned away for the few minutes it too to give him a call and relay the message. Turning back to Arina, she held out the phone, smile back in place. “I’m Ella by the way.”
“It absolutely is. It’s nearly impossible to still understand how mankind used to survive without all the technology we now have backing us up. I’d bet you 10€ that if we went out on the street and asked ten people if they can still read maps, maybe two or three could still get us to our destination.” A shrug. “As long as he’s not harming anyone, including himself.” Arina nodded before the woman turned away, patiently waiting for her to return the phone. “I’m Arina, pleasure to meet you.” Doe eyes strayed to her phone screen as she locked it again. “Did you reach him?”
“It’s awfully nice to meet you. And you are…?”
“I’m Arina and the pleasure is all mine. Anastasiya... that sounds very Russian. You’re not Italian, are you?”
“He’s my best friend so I’m pretty obligated to remember the number at this point.Though I don’t think the thought is mutual since he can’t usually even find his shoes in the morning. But thanks.”
“Still, I was beginning to think everyone simply relied on their phone too much by now to remember any number. It’s surprising if someone still remembers their own even. Well, hopefully he’ll never forget to charge his phone then -- but that scenario makes it sound very likely. You better look out for that one.” Unlocking her phone, Arina held it out for the other woman to take.
“–Sorry. I’ve had too many people asking stupid things this morning. Yeah that’s fine. It’s cold coffee now anyway.”
“It’s fine. As long as I can get this done now.” The brunette offered him a curt smile. She was already behind schedule, the last thing she needed was to argue about cups with more than one person this morning. Regardless, her sense for compassion forbade her to simply grab the cup and turn on her heels. “You should try to ignore them, especially in the morning. People here can get a little... well... annoying. It must be in their nature. Are they bothering you on the regular?”
“Pardon, do you think I could use your phone for a minute? I don’t want to be a bother but mine died and I was about to call my ride to come pick me up.”
“Yeah, sure. Hopefully mine hasn’t died as well. You know that number by heart, though? That’s impressive.”
“Look, I’m not a fucking information booth. As much as she grates on my nerves, Katerina is also my boss. Go find someone else to tell you what she’s up to.”
“Uh-- I was only asking if I could clean that cup up too.”
“You don’t need it still, do you? It’s been sitting there nearly empty for over half an hour.”
“That is one plus. I can always still dance though and have a good time. Drinking doesn’t always need to be a thing. You’re enjoying yourself at least?”
“Very true. It’s a highly overrated part of social etiquette. Well yeah, I mean, it’s a ball. I’ve never been to a ball and not enjoyed myself in one way or another.” A blatant lie. “I don’t think that’s even possible. Or have you?”
“Clearly just as many as you; not nearly enough.”
“I figured. You don’t look as blissfully engulfed in the glorious ball atmosphere that seems even more magical once you’ve emptied enough glasses. Sober, it looks surprisingly dull, doesn’t it?”
“Close enough,” she shrugs a shoulder, “I find alcohol is the best way to get through these things. It especially helps with the tense atmosphere. So what are you drinking, Arina?”
“I guess you might just be right about that,” the brunette couldn’t help but agree. A bit of a clouded mind surely wouldn’t hurt at this of all events. “Uhm, champagne, I suppose? I’m not really an experimental drinker at all. I like to stick to the classics, be safe and all.”
