honestly i think you’re right because the more i think about it, the more i realize that that ending could have worked had the buildup been given more time and space and been written well.

my suspicion is that he gave d&d the broad strokes of the ending but didn’t hold their hands through all the emotional and psychological steps to get there because he hadn’t written it yet, and they borked it
