A toast to Tommy Shelby - an extreme example of what a working man can achieve. 🎬 Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man
Keep ‘‘em coming nextflix!
Love of all these videos, especially looking at our girl Grace placed so prominently. Her character finally got the recognition it deserves throughout the promotion of the movie. She was the emotional heart of the show. I loved Tommy because of the man he was to her otherwise he is difficult to like!!!
PS:
they really wanna make it loud and clear who he is reunited with finally😂 rub it on haters faces
Tommy's light and dark. His happiness vs his unhappiness.
Now that those who work on the show confirmed that Tommy only loved Grace, that only his relationship with her was real and meant a lot to him. Watch the scenes again and it's much clearer now that he was very unhappy with Lizzie, and it shows that he never fell in love with her. There is not a single scene in the 6 seasons where they are in love and happy together. But it is the scenes, the ones similar to those of him with Grace, that you can see two completely different Tommys. There is a Tommy before Grace and an opposite one after Grace.
Show me a scene of Tommy looking at Lizzie or May like this.
That's right... You can't.
So it's already confirmed, it's Grace!
TOMMY HAS ONLY ONE PORTRAIT OF GRACE IN HIS ROOM!
You can believe how much he loves this woman? He needs to see her face every day, because as he himself said, she is by his side. 🥹😭😭
The best love story!
Cillian’s take on THAT scene….
Cillian Murphy was asked what Tommy's defining moment was.
Tommy's true love ❤
Throughout it all, I had me family 🖤
I know it's kinda silly but I wish that Grace was featured more in the Shelby Family pictures/promos before they killed her character off. She only appears in 2☹️
(For example, they could've easily included her in that promo pic for S3 since she still appeared as a main character before her death)
I will admit, I love how Tommy has his hand on her shoulder in that first one tho. It's giving power couple vibes🤌
Goodbye Tommy and Grace. Now you can rest in peace together.
Cillian’s take on THAT scene….
Tommy's Last Thoughts
His thoughts are a mix of happy or meaningful memories, ones he feels guilt for, and symbolic ones. The list is in order of appearance.
Tommy and Grace kiss in the afterglow of their first time. A moment of deep peace and happiness for Tommy, when the horror of his war memories were silenced.
2. Running to bring Ruby to the hospital because she was so sick. A guilty, sad memory.
3. Ruby's spirit comes to tell him not to die. A happy, meaningful memory.
4. Ruby playing during the scene where Tommy must kill his black horse. A happy memory.
5. Grace turns around after closing the Garrison, when he is about to ask her to go to the church where they have their first kiss. Honestly I think they used it because she looks really beautiful here, almost ethereal in bright light., but it also could be symbolic for her turning around to see him there- a prediction for when they meet again. Either way, it was a happy memory.
6. Tommy plays with Charlie after Grace's death. A happy and sad memory.
7. Grace confessing in season 1. The memories here are solely tied to either happy, guilty, or symbolic memories or ideas, so this certainly can't be about feeling betrayal from the original moment. I believe it is either guilt for not having forgiven her at the time or a recognition that he will be confessing his sins, apologizing for the mistakes he made, to her when they reunite.
8. A shot from when Tommy is preparing to go to the races, water drips from his face that looks like a teardrop.
9. The first obviously symbolic picture, the eye of a black horse with a setting sun in the background- the final death of Tommy's dark side.
10. More Tommy prepping for the races, using a straight razor against his face.
11. The window of the car where Arthur was killed by Tommy, his cap is visible from where he slumped forward motionless after death. A guilty memory.
12. Tommy and Grace dancing at their wedding, this is the moment where Grace was about to ask Tommy to not let anything happen that night and to leave the bad business behind. Since he didn't agree to do that, this is a guilty memory. It also recognizes that this was the moment he signed her death warrant, metaphorically. Pairing the Arthur scene and this also supports that.
13. Tommy cleaning himself for the races. Symbolic of cleaning himself in preparation to meet his family.
14. Grace asks him if he wants a happy or sad song for her to sing. Although he asked for sad at the time, I'm sure this is a happy memory for him now.
15. I could not find if this was from a specific scene or if it was something new, meant for symbolism. I thought it was another race prep scene, but I couldn't find it there- when I rewatched. It appears to be a nude person standing in front of a bed, their hair is short so it seems likely that it is meant to symbolize Tommy going to rest, everything bare now.
16. Polly at his wedding, looking concerned and worried because of the bad business going on. Likely reflecting her maternal role for him.
17. Grace putting on lipgloss in preparation for the races, although they changed the lighting. Tommy would have no memory of this, so it is meant to be one of the symbolic thoughts. It shows that as he is preparing to meet her, she is preparing to meet him too, at least his mind hopes she is. The lighting does make it similar to the elements of the dark horse picture and the final shot of Ruby waiting for him. If the horse had a setting sun, I think this is meant to symbolize a rising sun, and in Ruby's as well.
18. A scene of a gun, another one from the Cheltenham race prep and I think it belongs to Grace. It likely represents the presence of guns in his life, a source of guilt.
19. A scene from season 1 episode 3 where Tommy cheers up Arthur after he gets upset that it was Tommy running things and not including Arthur in what's going on. He then buys the Garrison for Arthur. A happy memory and one of the many that cemented their relationship as ultimately loving.
20. The second one from Grace's confession. Again, this has to be connected to his own desire to confess to her.
21. Smoothing his hand over her back during their first time, something he relished doing when they met again in season 2. A special memory.
22. Grace puts her hat on, ready to go to the races. Ready to meet him again.
23. A memory of Tommy preparing his gun when getting ready for Cheltenham. Mainly I think these are meant to show his regret that guns were so involved in his life.
24. This seems like a new scene since the figure is wearing the same outfit she wears in the film. This is meant to show Ruby waiting for Tommy in the afterlife, or as he imagines it will be. She had stopped him from killing himself before, but now it is finally time.
25. Tommy washing himself one last time from the Cheltenham prep. This symbolizes him cleansing himself before he sees his family in the afterlife.
This montage restored my faith in Peaky Blinder metaphorical writing.
At the very end, at the end of Tommy's story, just before he leaves, there is a scene with fragments of his memories. The scene is very short, mostly just shots, fleeting flashes in his mind.
And although the scene is as short as possible, you can see a certain parallel with the scene from the third episode of the first season, when Tommy and Grace dress up for the races. Because most of the frames are selected from this particular scene. I wonder why these particular frames were chosen and in this particular sequence…
It all starts with a shot of Grace's face from their first time sex scene.
Then there are three shots of little Ruby: Tommy in the hospital, hugging his little girl, and how she runs towards him.
Next is a shot from S1E04, where Grace gets out of the Harrison, and Tommy then takes her to the church, and where he says his "I confess. I need someone.”
Next is a scene from S3E03 with little Charlie. It's noteworthy that Tommy remembers Charlie like this, maybe because when Charlie was younger, Tommy found it easier to communicate with him?
This is followed by a shot from S1E06, where Grace herself is trying to "confess" and tell Tommy the truth.
After that, a cut: two shots of Tommy from S1E03, as he shaves, preparing to meet Grace. And a shot of a horse's eye from S1E02, another shot with water droplets - I don't remember that moment.
Next is S3E01. A wedding dance where they are both so happy and believe that everything will be fine with them.
Where Tommy makes Grace a promise: “I promise, I'll take care of our safety.” Perhaps this shows Tommy's guilt for not keeping his promise.
Next, another shot from S1E03, where Tommy is already wash up … Or is it a hint that he is being cleansed of his sins before starting a new stage of his life?
And the iconic moment from S1E02. "I'll break your heart" is where, in fact, everything started between Tommy and Grace.
What follows is a moment with Polly, and it's the only one in black and white.
Following are three short moments from S1E03. And, interestingly, there is a shot where Grace takes a gun with her. Is that a hint?
Next is a shot of Tommy with Arthur.
And four Tommy and Grace moments. Grace tries to confess again from S1E06. Their first time is from S1E05.
AndAnd again S1E03. Grace gets ready, puts on her hat and puts her gun back on. Does this mean that things won't be easy for Tommy there?
Next is the illuminated silhouette of baby Ruby.
And at the very end, S1E03 again: short shots of Tommy washing his face with water, preparing for horse racing and for a meeting with Grace.
In all these shots, Tommy remembers the people he loves most, those who are most dear to him, those whom he loves. But if you consider that he sees all the dead loved ones, then this may also be a feeling of guilt. After all, Tommy believes that they all died because of him. Or Tommy just sees those with whom he hopes to be reunited, because he believes that they are waiting on the other side.
But Charlie is present in these memories, and Charlie is alive, even though he went to war. Although it is possible that it is precisely because Charlie, like Tommy, is now fighting in the war, and the Tommy who "once laughed" went to war and never returned home. Therefore, in Tommy's mind, his son, like himself, if he comes back, he will never be the same. That's why he sees Charlie as a toddler.
As for Tommy and Grace, when they were preparing to meet at the races, they didn't know what to expect from that day and from each other. And perhaps this parallel symbolizes their preparation for a new meeting, but in another world, symbolizes their willingness to see each other. They are both preparing for this day, but again they don't know what to expect.
P.S: The strangest and most striking thing is that neither John nor Ada is present in these memories of Tommy. Why?
The last moments Tommy remembers before his death 😭💔
