I can’t believe no one has done a Corpse Bride AU yet. Caleb has to get married to someone for plot reasons, maybe as part of an elaborate con? Who knows. But he very much does not want to do it and is very stressed out and goes off into the woods to practice the vows to try to calm himself down, and puts the ring into what he thinks is a twig sticking out of the ground…but it’s actually a skeletal finger…belonging to one deceased Mollymauk Tealeaf who died at that very spot some time ago. And by the laws of the universe, since Caleb said the vows and put the ring on Molly’s finger, that means they are now married, and Caleb gets sucked into the land of the dead to meet his new husband, who has been partying in the afterlife ever since he died and is just as surprised as Caleb to find himself suddenly married.
