As much as it hurt to speak out these words, Shadow firmly believed in what he just said. If Maria would forget him, she wouldn’t need to bear the pain of knowing the things he did. She wouldn’t have to feel the pain of betrayal, or imagine the suffering he had caused. No, Maria should be out in the world and be happy, surrounded by friends and family, far away from a monster like himself.
