The Art of Hasui Kawase
Hasui Kawase (川瀬 巴水 Kawase Hasui, May 18, 1883 – November 7, 1957) was a Japanese artist. He was one of the most prominent print designers of the shin-hanga (“new prints”) movement. Kawase worked almost exclusively on landscape and townscape prints based on sketches he made in Tokyo and during travels around Japan. However, his prints are not merely meishō (famous places) prints that are typical of earlier ukiyo-e masters such as Hiroshige and Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Kawase’s prints feature locales that are tranquil and obscure in urbanizing Japan.

Monumental Art Deco in the Argentinian Pampas: the work of Francisco Salamone Esteban Pastorino Diaz
The dark utopia.
Between 1998 and 2001 I travelled around the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, with the purpose of making a photographic survey on Architect Francisco Salamone’s buildings. His work, developed between 1936 and 1940, in approximately 25 towns and cities of the province, was compliant with the plan of Manuel Fresco’s government, which aimed at building slaughter houses, cemeteries, and town halls in several areas of his jurisdiction. Salomone’s work is a monumental and wonderfully creative expression of a style in which Art Deco and Rationalism merge.
