About other mythologies
How would A+C interact with Sun-Wukong/Chinese mythology?
Our Great Sage put away his compliant rod and, summoning his power, leaped up and stood right in the center of the Patriarch's hand. He said simply, "I'm off!" and he was gone - all but invisible like a streak of light in the clouds. Training the eye of wisdom on him, the Buddhist Patriarch saw that the Monkey King was hurtling along relentlessly like a whirligig. - Journey to the West, chapter 7
~~~
In which Wukong finally faces punishment from Buddha by getting trapped under Five Phases Mountain! He totally had it coming after his rampage, though I do feel a bit bad that he'll have to stay under there for a long while ^^;; But at least it won't be for forever!
For the doodle, I decided to render Buddha since he's, y'know, the Buddha XD I initially thought of drawing Wukong emerging from Laozi's furnace with his glowing eyes, since that's when he goes absolute ham on Heaven; maybe I'll try it in a future doodle loll
The Immortal Master lifted his divine lance of three points and two blades and struck, but the Monkey King with agile body was quick to move out of the way. He whipped out that embroidery needle of his, and with one wave caused it to take on the thickness of a rice bowl. Rushing forward, he engaged Erlang face to face. - Journey to the West, chapter 6
~~~
In which Wukong meets Erlang Shen! This is my first time designing Erlang; I've only ever drawn his Black Myth iteration, so this was pretty fun XD Once again I've based his outfit off of Tang dynasty Mingguang armour, just like Wukong's; his is more golden and shiny though, since he's described in the book as wearing a gold/yellow robe!
I also enjoyed reading about his fight with Wukong, and how they really match the other in terms of strength and magical abilities. Now that Wukong's been captured, I wonder what'll happen to him now? (I already know loll but I'm excited to read about it all the same XD)

Following an assassination attempt on Lord Kuro, Wolf stayed close by his master during the day and lay at his side through the night. He trusted nothing and no one, and held no thought for propriety; and in any case, Lord Kuro was very relieved - and all the more pleased - by his shinobi's proximity.
Pt1 / Pt2 / Pt3 / Pt4 / Pt5 / Pt6
Another thing for my warrior!Kuro AU! I wasn't sure which colouring style to go for this one, so I went with both my usual rendering and the ukiyo-e inspired version from my previous Sekiro post XD And yes, Kuro is using Wolf's arm stump as a pillow (Wolf insisted for various reasons loll)
"You senseless BanHorsePlague! You are guilty of the ten evils. You first stole peaches and then wine, utterly disrupting the Grand Festival of Immortal Peaches. You also robbed Laozi of his immortal elixir, and then you had the gall to plunder the imperial winery for your personal enjoyment. Don't you realize that you have piled up sin upon sin?" - Journey to the West, chapter 5
~~~
Whelp the monke's gone and done it, as per the quote above! Then again, putting him in charge of the managing the Immortal Peach orchard was a pretty bad idea in the first place (nice work, jade emperor) XD But I'll also put accountability on Wukong for stealing the elixir and immortality pills and whatnot; now he has to deal with getting attacked by Heaven's army again! ^^;;
I also wasn't sure what to draw for the background, so I settled for the walls of Laozi's house loll
Read-along hosted by @journeythroughjourneytothewest :D
Lord Kuro's trust in Wolf strengthened as they took part in many missions together on the shogun's behalf. During one such mission, Lord Kuro disguised himself again as a woman to infiltrate the enemy castle.
Enamoured by his lord's beauty - and ashamed to admit that he had not recognized him at first - Wolf later requested to observe his lord's disguise so that he might learn his mannerisms and be able to know him on sight in the future. Lord Kuro readily agreed to a demonstration.
Pt1 / Pt2 / Pt3 / Pt4 / Pt5
~~~
Welcome back into my warrior!Kuro AU (for the time being)! While writing the fic for this AU, a scene came up where Wolf asks to study Kuro's disguise, and I couldn't pass up the chance to draw Kuro in some fancy clothes XD
I'm also not gonna deny that they do look quite intimate in this painting; I always intended to write them as being more than just master/servant following their reunion, while at the same time not dipping into romance since I didn't think it fitting for this particular story. And so, the result is a queerplatonic dynamic! :D
"Make me a banner immediately," [Wukong] ordered the four mighty commanders, "and inscribe on it in large letters, 'The Great Sage, Equal to Heaven.' Erect a pole to hang it on. From now on, address me only as the Great Sage, Equal to Heaven, and the title Great King will no longer be permitted. The Monster Kings of the various caves will also be informed so that it will be known to all.'' - Journey to the West, chapter 4
~~~
The Great Sage is here!! Here's my attempt at his red and yellow robe, which some demon kings give him as a gift after he returns from being Heaven's Protector of Horses XD
Speaking of that, I was pleasantly surprised to see how seriously Wukong took his job in protecting the celestial horses! He did things really well and took great care of them, and I feel bad that it all went wrong T_T But I don't feel too sorry for Heaven since they dug their own hole with that one (and I don't see it improving anytime soon loll)
Also, Heavenly King Li and Nezha sighting!! I really enjoyed reading about their battle with Wukong; I've also been thinking of drawing Nezha at some point, so now I have his description in the book to work off of XD
hello! I love your Star Wars paintings. I’m very curious as to how Vader would depict Obi-Wan. would he still hold him in high regards and have a painting done like Padme, or would it be torn to shreds given everything on Mustafar?
Hi there! I'm happy to hear you like my SW art <333 Hmm I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I completely forgot about Obi-wan loll ^^;; I have two ideas on this:
1) Vader commissions these super-detailed Louvre-worthy paintings of the Jedi's demise wherein Obi is displayed front and centre with the most amount of detail (definitely not so that Vader can stare at him while marinating in his own feels)
2) Vader has a few personal portraits of him like Padme's, but he ends up tearing them all up like the Beast's portrait in Beauty and the Beast (then again, maybe there's one that Anakin commissioned as a gift for Obi during the Clone Wars era, and Vader keeps that one untouched because of feels)
I can honestly see Vader taking both routes loll he definitely has the money XD As for what happens to Obi-wan in the AU, I haven't figured that out yet; once I do, I'll see if I can turn it into a painting hahaa Thanks for the ask, anon! :D
Wukong duly put on the gold cap, the gold cuirass, and the cloud-treading shoes, and, wielding his compliant rod, he fought his way out in mock combat, yelling to the dragons, "Sorry to have bothered you!" The Dragon Kings of the Four Oceans were outraged, and they consulted together about filing a formal complaint, of which we make no mention here. - Journey to the West, chapter 3
~~~
The boy's got his staff and armour! I think this is where his power starts getting to his head loll He just barged into the Dragon King's palace, demanded some gear for free, refused to elaborate, and left XD
This was my first time designing Wukong's battle gear; I used Mingguang armour from the Tang Dynasty as a reference point and simplified it for the art style I'm using here. If I were to redraw it in my more realistic style, I'd definitely make the armour more detailed (same with the golden staff loll)!
For the background, I wanted to squeeze in all three locations from the chapter: the Region of Darkness/Underworld, the ocean where the Dragon King lives, and Flower-Fruit Mountain above ground!

i LOVE LOVE LOVE your journey to the west art! It's one of my favourite series and it's so exciting finding such stunning fanart for it!? Your art style and designs are so pretty and the way you depict Wukong and Tripitaka's friendship warms my heart 🥹 Ty for sharing!!
Awww I'm happy to hear you like my art! Thank you so much!! <333 I'm having lots of fun reading JttW, and I can't wait to reach the chapters where Sanzang enters the story; once I get there, you can bet I'll be drawing him and Wukong together in many of my weekly doodles! XD
"I beseech the master to forgive me," Wukong said, kowtowing. "I won't condemn you," said the Patriarch, "but you must leave this place." When Wukong heard this, tears fell from his eyes. "Where am I to go, Teacher?" he asked. "From wherever you came," the Patriarch said, "you should go back there." - Journey to the West, chapter 2
~~~
Aka local immortal kicks out his wild monke son so he can keep up his low profile XD In all seriousness though, I enjoyed seeing how Wukong gained his magic, and his dynamic Subodhi! I'm only familiar with Wukong and Sanzang's relationship, so it was fascinating to watch Wukong interact with his first master and see how reverent he is of him, even when he's still a cheeky show-off hahaa
I also felt bad when Subodhi kicked Wukong out at the end, but at the same time, I get it XD Subodhi can sense the monke havoc on the horizon lololl
Read-along hosted by @journeythroughjourneytothewest :D
Sanzang's path to enlightenment! This was mainly inspired by @tuima11's interpretation of the Tang Monk where he starts off depressed during the journey but finds a found family with his disciples <333 (And I was also inspired by the latest chapter in The Found Family Field Guide XD)
I wanted to show Sanzang's progress through his halo, which I recall is something Wukong can see with his golden eyes! For Sanzang's buddha self, I modeled his halo after a sun dog/parhelion; for this painting, Sanzang himself is visible, but I imagine his face would appear super bright like the sun so that he really does resemble a parhelion XD I'm always up for the chance to draw this glowy monk! hahaa
Exposed to the wind, [the egg] was transformed into a stone monkey endowed with fully developed features and limbs. Having learned at once to climb and run, this monkey also bowed to the four quarters, while two beams of golden light flashed from his eyes to reach even the Palace of the Polestar. - Journey to the West, chapter 1
~~~
Guess who's finally reading Journey to the West for the first time! Many thanks to @journeythroughjourneytothewest for setting up this read-along! :D I'm excited to finally absorb all the monke lore loll
Regarding chapter 1, I was surprised at how polite Wukong is right off the bat after being born; I'm more used to seeing his rebellious side XD I know that'll come later loll but in the meantime, seeing him with the monkeys and all of them chilling in Water-Curtain Cave was so sweet! I especially enjoyed the poems describing their banquets with all the fruits and other yummy foods :D
Aww thank you so much!! I'm happy to hear you like the portrait! <333
And no worries about the asks, I love receiving them! :D I'd say the Naberries were horrified to find out, but they felt they had no choice but to accept them into the family. And the twins are very charming and loving, which makes it hard to refuse loll
If the Naberries wanted to go no contact, the twins would understand and respect that, but I think the family wouldn't want to risk any potential future consequences, y'know? Better to have them as allies and all ^^;;
As for Padme's speeches, I think Luke and Leia definitely would've watched them! They'd have their own opinions about it while still loving Padme unconditionally; I think Leia in particular would look at Padme's work through the lens of what was effective and what wasn't, so she can improve upon her mother's work XD
The late Padme Amidala was well-known for her work as both queen and senator of Naboo. As sharp-witted as she was beautiful, she fought for the welfare of all and opposed war at every chance, which in turn gained her popularity among the citizens. Her untimely passing was a devastating blow to many, often likened to the loss of a bright star in the galaxy.
Some time after the Imperial Prince and Princess made themselves known, they revealed their connection to Senator Amidala along with her secret marriage to Lord Vader. The backlash of this discovery was undoubtedly softened by the public’s adoration for the twins; any strong reactions regarding Amidala’s union with Lord Vader was soon dispelled, and whatever uncertainty that lingered in the aftermath was left unspoken.
~~~
Here is Padme's portrait for the AU! I'm not sure how many paintings Vader would have of her since it could be a touchy subject, but for the sake of his kids, I imagine he'd commission at least a few XD
One of Lord Vader’s most favoured renditions of his children features them on holiday at Naboo. The twins, taking great pride in their late mother’s heritage, often visited her home planet and delighted in its culture and scenic vistas. They were rarely seen apart from the dark lord while residing in Theed Palace, yet it is said that they occasionally disappeared into the country together and returned at twilight just before their father grew restless.
Coincidentally, the completion of this painting marks the anniversary of Lord Vader’s union with Padme Amidala, former queen and senator of Naboo. Despite a rocky beginning, Naboo eventually formed amiable ties with the Empire and has long since enjoyed the fruits of that favourable alliance.
~~~
Here's one of the many paintings of Luke and Leia that Vader has hanging in his room XD I also figured it'd be a nice way to drop some lore bits about Naboo! I'd really like to introduce more of the other planets and what happens with them, but again, I'm kinda making this AU up as I go, so I don't have all the details in place yet loll ^^;;
Also, Leia's outfit here is inspired by Padme's lakeside dress in ep2! I didn't have a lot of energy to add lots of details to the clothing, so let's just say the twins are in their "chill time" outfits XD
