Sam Wilson is Captain America. Sam Wilson has been Captain America for almost five years now. Sam Wilson deserves more than one movie that practically hates him, undermines him at every turn, and only came out four years after he'd already initially accepted the title of Captain America, just for its success to be derailed by the talking heads at Marvel saying it's perceived failure was due to a lack of Steve Rogers. I don't give a fuck about this inflated Steve Rogers worship but more than that, Sam Wilson's Captain America movie shouldn't have either. If you're going to claim it failed because of a dead character who no longer even exists within the context of the movie itself, do you even understand your own movie? Do you even care about your own existing characters the whole thing's based on?

I'm so sick and tired of watching Sam get sidelined in his own narrative, second guessed, and pushed to a point of physical pain that none of his previous peers were just to "prove a point" about his deservedness of the title he very much so already earned, just to always find that it's never enough anyways. We've already had the nostalgia-bate posting from official Marvel accounts constantly bringing Steve back up, constantly re-imagining him, constantly hinting at the possibility of bringing him back until today when they dropped the first official trailer for Doomsday and it's just him. Just Steve, with his old suit front and center, as if he's the saving grace, the great return to the good ol' days when Marvel was a pop culture staple for the same audience who hates it now, and not a rerun of a character that we already said goodbye to and moved on from, a character that many of us who actually still care have been trying to get this fandom out from under the shadow of for far too long already.

I want Sam. I want my Captain America. I want the Captain America.
