grob planlos geht der plan los
17.508 Islands, hundres of languages, 5 weeks, 2 guys and the general goal to go scubadiving in Raja Ampat near Sorong in West Papua
If the Internet permits, we will share impressions, thoughts and quotes from this adventure here. So check in from time to time; somtimes there will be nothing, sometimes a ramdon thought and sometimes a good read for a cup of coffee and a piece of cake. Enjoy!
Fachwerk
we need more of this
yes it’s a bit of a fire hazard - BUT it’s great insulation, it looks nice and uses wood, hay and clay so it should be the latest fad in organic living ;-)
A lot of this stuff in the south of Germany. All the small villaged have it. It gives them the real village feel. Croocked and bend and wonderfull
Stone
locations can be found in the real world - go search
“Steinmännchen” in the alps, protestant church or catholic dome - arranged stones carry meaning for us. Laying singularly in a field the stone is certainly more free; it serves a purpose in a structre though - everybodys personall choice
Feet in Motion
originally trough a necessary fuctionality test; now a regular motive
My camera used to have a problem starting up. If I could take this picture then the machnics inside would hold for lifting the camera up. It over time became a shot from many location - each having a story that travels with me through time.
And it’s a nice visual for the growth in a live ^~^
Roses
The roses of this garden that i cared for over the summer are in their thrid bloom. Which is still nice but never lives up to the glowing blossoms of the first blooming.
In the last six month live moved at a rapid pace.
I finished a six month projekt in through a ruthless push of force. quite usuall for me and my siblings nonetheless as exhausting as it is thrilling. It get’s shit done - you pay a price though.
Startet a new work, was on the move throughout the land in 16 out of 20 weekends, hitchhiked onto the wrong highway, saw wonderfull music performances, followd invitations to celebration that were overdue, met old and new friends, lost a loved one and grew. In inner strength, determination, will, skill, knowledge, experience and gratitude.
After this rush - luckily well documented on paper and mind - I will return to the halls of knowledge to pursuit an even higher education. A wonderfull, free’r yet less clear time lies ahead. With new fog and islands that are just waiting to be explored. The equipement is improved, the crew trained in a better fasion and the captain well rested. So before we set sail with a new cadett on deck, I will share some impressions from my time in the land of the “Häuslebauer”
- anyways, enjoy!
Garden development
time flies when you have work that you enjoy
finishing up a 6 month internship in Swabia - full summer cycle
The work was challenging, fulfilling and readily availabe in large quantities. Having a garden as a counter balance after a long day at the office is quite the treat something I am greatful for.

What we are known for?
A tiny anecdote form a mountain near the syrian border.
Travelling with german friends. We meet a guy that sells all kind of honey. Talk to him, asks the nationality. Say german. He knows the names of the honey in german. Nice! He then proceeds to make a rectangle with his hands.
Yes, that is also correct and apparantly will stay.
Then the amazing part:
While he tries to package the honey in a single use plastic bag my friend stops him and says:
" please no bag" in hebrew,
to which to farmer replies:
" Oh, yes, of course, germans! no plastic bag, i know i know. You germans hate plastic bags." With a massive smile on his face that quickly spread to ours he hands my friend the honey
I guess there are worse thigns germany or any country could be known for.
Germans - known for hating to use single use plastic bags
What a world

The struggles you can have flying to a Jewish country. The Sabbath. They can not land and process the plane after sundown on a Friday. No, really NO, work on Saturday. And they are serious about that. Got to know that our plane is running late and needs to hurry to make it to Tel Aviv before sunset.
My Question: What do you do when you don't make it? Clerk: Well than we can't land.
Love ruels like that. Nope, can't see the sun anymore. Guess I'll just circle the sky for 14 hours or fly back...
P.S.: As you can guess, we made it
ISRAEL I Fruit So far these are the biggest avocados and pomegranates that I found Are there bigger ones? We will see...

A quick realxing look back
-normally not my style of pictures; but hey, why the fuck not?-
PlamtreePalmtreePalmtree
since I came here for the first time 2 years ago I found our garden of the guest house awfully barren.
I wanted to change that. On top of all our tasks.
Here. A roughly 500 people village in the rain green rain forest of the ivory coast of western Africa.
And so it begins. Not that it is my responsibility. Not that it is my duty. Not that someone told me to. Nor did I get paid for it. It gives me a bit pleasure. It feeds a vision of what could be.
And you realize that this is what gets you into the important things.
And me into development work.
To all people!
Stay tuned!
Sleep and sickness
Well, better than sleeping sickness Anyways, I was sick the latest three days. As always. But it passes. My bowls as well as the sickness ;-) But not so many fun updates for that reason
Knowledge Transfer
- counterclockwise from the left: Augustin, Maja, Samuel, Officer - in the center: Bender medical safety analyzer
Why what when?
Well the hospital we are visiting is growing. New emergency, better operation block, hell even a CT will be installed end of 2017(this year :P). So "TIA-style" simply does not cut it anymore. Bridged fuses, 17 V on the case of the device and improvisations that are impossible to sterilize will not be able to be justified for a lot longer. Therefore the call for advanced patient, staff and electrician safety is growing.
Our partner organization, GRVD, invested and made it possible for us to buy this device. It is basically a standardized, highly advanced multimeter. More sockets, easy plans and simple to use. Checks for leakages, functioning resistances and tells you if something is wrong. All with step by step instructions. Really nice, fairly simple when you get some quirks and definitions figured out.
Talking about figuring out? we should figure out who these people are:
Augustin - helping hand technician, low level of school education, practical work is good Samuel - TeoG Ghana member, agricultural mechanic engineer, first deployment, wants to learn about how we do projects and how we solve problems Officer - young apprentice of the maintenance department, kind of self taught, can not show full potential due to hierarchical structure Me - just a dude taking a picture and getting things to run in the propper direction ;-)
And there is
Maja - first TeoG deployment, medical engineering student, surprisingly similar backstory to mine, curious, engaged once the interest for a specific thing(like advancing and taking responsibility for a project) is raised and the value is understood.
The first days of our trip was, metaphorically speaking the beginning of a old school fencing match. Both of us made cheeky jokes, were being punchy, pout-y, generally testing and checking how the other one reacts. Fun and just like it mostly is when two people how have never spend more than 30 minutes together are suddenly put in a room and live together 24/7. I highly appreciate her company and our teamwork has found a way of functioning. Not without its fights. But with remorse, understanding, self-reflection and a grin that screams determination. After we got that out of the way, we are ready to greet our next team member tonight and finally get going with the generators, much more work, planning and multitasking.
In other words: We are entering the territory of my choice ;-)
Stay tuned!
Old friends
We are back again in Ghana. Flew over Paris, landed in Accra. Somethings changed. The layout of the airport, people are quite now at the bag collection, mostly cosmetic changes. Some things stay the same. The smell of gasoline and rainforest that hit you when you get out the airplane. The spicy food. Relaxed time taking. Long church services. Hi-life music. Chris that picks you up and take should to his hotel. And there is the occasional strange thing. We will confirm in like three weeks, but I am firmly sure, that a laboratory worker from agomanya waited at the same belt as us for our luggage. Tomorrow we start our trip to techiman. Had to wait for our driver. So we went to church and walked through Accra a bit. Early to bed now. The fan is running to keep the mosquitos of, the shower was cold and mentally I am finally here.

Abschied
A last look back. At good times, shady basement bars, friendship, good and unbelievable evenings, coffee, guitar music, campfires, love, confusion, beers to pass the time, canceled classes, realizations, deep conversations, visits from friends, vacations, skiing and long lines for food that put you to bed. A last look at our intereuropean friendship, at different and diverse points of view, at a culture similar and different from mine, a way of live intervened with my own through the stories of my parents and grandparents. A closing point to waiting for a train in the night, hard drinks for breakfast, sunflower seeds, orthodox churches, green mountains, shaky language skills, a system in which the human possesses more power, leaving the doors open of a riding train, confusions about Schengen, Spanish noise, turkish roses, a natural high and the treasure hunt for a culture, symbols, names, the past, quirks and logic. A good-bye through a sad crying grin, a farewell to many people that were like family, a golden mosaic tile so readily dropped in the chest of memories that glows like a supernova in the sky.
You will always be a part of me! - Farewell my friend(s)
