hey i know ur finnish pronouns are kind of old but i have a question. i was born and have always lived in america, but my ancestors are finnish. ive been trying to sort of get back in touch with that by learning the language and stuff - uhh i guess basically im asking if im finnish Enough to use them considering ive never been to finland and can barely speak the language

This blog isn’t really active anymore and I’ve personally been wanting to delete it but just haven’t had the time to ask mod fox if they’re willing to let go of it

but to answer your question I personally am fully welcoming to ppl who feel a connection to their Finnish ancestry and want to explore that part of their identity and culture. Especially seen as historically Finnish people and our culture have been so looked down upon and forgotten.

tbh I’d be careful with deciding to worship another country’s or culture’s Gods. I can’t speak for every culture on this topic, so just be careful and speak to people of that culture about it

Why can’t you use the Finnish pronouns if you aren’t Finnish? Being Finnish is not a closed culture you know... you cant culturally appropriate Finnish people. That’s like I’m French and can’t tell non-French people they can’t use French pronouns and genders

I’m not talking about just (modern) Finnish culture, that’s our folklore and mythology. And the reason it’s not cool to take our folklore and use it for yourself is because we weren’t allowed to use it or like it. We weren’t even allowed to speak our own language just about 100 years ago.

We might be a dominantly white people but that doesn’t mean our people have never been oppressed and discriminated against. 

Finns and Frenchmen aren’t comparable.

Hi! French cultural/lore inspired pronouns would be bomb! French doesn’t really have non-gendered/neo pronouns and it sucks.

I have to know cos nounself stuff could be the most punk rock thing ever. Or it could be a cute joke that I'm not in on. Did you know that our old language has a complete neutral gender not just a plural like English and just not care? Like a fuck you to a culture you feel oppresses you... Did you know that bodach means 'of the penis' and make a gender neutral nounself as a way of deconstructing sex n gender? Is it deep and subversive or am I reading into it too much?

My language has completely gender neutral pronouns (only divided to people pronouns and object/animal pronouns)

I mean, it can be punk rock, some people participate in neopronoun stuff because it's a really free playground where you can essentially make up any pronouns you want. Personally I enjoy that side of it too, and it let's me be creative in another.

I mean, pretty much everyone has wanted to make their own secret code or language, so neopronouns and neogenders give people the chance to indulge in that, making something of your own that has meaning to you. And other people liking that something is just icing on the cake.

I genuinely don't understand. Can you tell me what is going on with that Irish folklore neoprounouns thing? I think it killed me. It obliterated my sense of self. It decimated my humanity. There's a definitely a learning opportunity. They're has to be.

It started with me (Wolfe) making a set of pronouns inspired by my own culture, because reconnecting to my people and my culture is a coping-mechanism of mine.

I didn't plan or expect other people to want us to make pronoun sets inspired by other cultures but it happened. It's fun and it's fun to learn about other cultures (tbh it's mostly me learning regarding the Irish folklore ones since Fox is Scottish and knows more about it than me)

this doesn't harm anyone, mind you. we're just a couple of kids having fun.

And the lesson to heard here is that if you personally don't like or understand something, you can just let it be. If you don't enjoy pronouns inspired by folklore, that's fine but let other people enjoy them.
