A list of things that happened in the book/movie that made me headcanon Ryland Grace as aroace:

The entire interaction he had with DuBois and Shapiro. “You guys are having sex? Ew. I didn’t need to know that. Anyway, the astrophage krebs cycle… Wait, you call her DOCTOR while having sex?? Weird. Forget I asked. Anyway, the krebs cycle…”

The only time I remember him mentioning he had a partner in the book was when he compared Rocky’s messiness to his ex’s.

“I had a mate, but she thought my head was in the clouds.” Bro was fighting those allonormality demons

“You guys think I’m sleeping with Stratt??? nonononono please no”

Just the whole speech that Stratt gives about Grace’s life not having meaning on Earth because he doesn’t have a partner, kids, family, or a dog. Just. Damn.

Expanding on that past bullet point, Grace does not have a single love interest that impacts his character arc. He’s happy without any romantic relationship. Just him, Rocky, and other eridians he’s met. He’s fulfilled and content without being in a romantic relationship. It’s just so different from what I’ve always seen and been told, and it’s wonderful.

I hate the misconception that Aroaces are all alone like NO! we aren't. Some of us love constantly, maybe they aren't what other people normally love but we do LOVE. And that love for everything and anything is what keeps us going. Its what and who we're brave for.

People really need to let aroace characters be fucked up. Not, like, in an evil way, just fucked up.

It feels like???? Most normal person ever, an autistic stereotype, or mayyybe the most evil person on the planet.

C’mon. There are a couple of characters I know about that are 10/10 aroace rep and they ARE aroace, they say so themselves in the media. But it doesn’t count because they didn’t use the exact term “aroace”.

The most obvious example would be Saiki Kusuo from Saiki K.

I get that he fits under the “autistic stereotype” category but he’s also the main character and I think that negates most of my problems with the autistic stereotype characters in the first place. He makes a lot of meaningful connections throughout the show and it would honestly be perfect representation. It IS perfect representation.

Idk sometimes I just wanna see an aroace *character*, y’know?

Not an evil guy who would OBVIOUSLY be aroace because he’s evil. Not a robot or alien who’s aroace because they’re not human. And not a comic relief autistic stereotype that’s always being infantilized to hell and back who’s aroace because anything else seems inappropriate. And definitely not the most vanilla, unproblematic, appropriate character you could possibly imagine who’s essentially a PSA stating: “Hey! Aroace people exist and are people, have a good day!”

I just want an actual, interesting character. I want their sexuality to be addressed in an interesting way. Hell, I’d like some aroace villains who aren’t pure evil.

But everything has to “address” being aroace. Like it’s a hella touchy subject, which I guess it is? I just want some galaxy brained shit.

Why can’t we have. Anything.

For Valentine's Day my local library set up a romance free collection in the YA section, complete with little ace and aro colored hearts with silly "eww" "nope" "not for me" messages, and I for one think that is incredibly asexy of them.

My dream is to have a house full of friends, where we can eat all together then playing cards until late in the night, laughing and singing. Or where we can have a hot chocolate and a deep conversation. A safe and welcoming space for me and my loved ones.

I want an additional bed to host those who come from afar and a big kitchen table for lunches and dinners.

I want someone to cook pies with, to travel with, to spend the Christmas holidays with.

I want to be loved and to love. That's a simple dream, really. That's my concept of family
