DOL is genuinely an insane game to me. you can goon or you can face the eldritch level horrors that exists in the in-game lore. but before any of that, you need to pay life changing amounts of money each week in order not to get slimed by a bunch of grown adults. the guy who demands that money from you is in a shitty forced proximity hate-hate relationship with your sugar parent. said sugar parent is associated with multiple other weird people who run the most morally questionable businesses possible (don’t worry, treating humans like animals is okay but building a skyscraper isn’t!). one of them is a cult leader who hosts furry conventions every four weeks. speaking of cults. twilight is technically possible in the dolverse because vampires are hinted to exist. lovecraft-esque creatures can be made via cult rituals. you get haunted every so often by an apparition that tried to drown you. a gyaru bullies you at school. you can have dinner with pimp lucius. they mayor is an amateur filmmaker. said mayor is actually under the thumb of the guy who demands you to pay him each week. they still use medieval torture devices to punish criminals. the law is practically nonexistent. there’s no such thing as a good ending. and it all happens in a seaside city in the UK. what the fuck.

In my characterization and writing of Bailey...

I really want to talk about how the writing in Bailey in the game is unique to anyone else because of PC's hypervigilance. PC is always analyzing his micro-expressions, trying to anticipate his mood. The narration often focuses on what Bailey doesn't do. He doesn't look at you. He doesn't hit you, not here.

That writing in the game around Bailey really got to me, like with the Ocean Breeze Cafe when Bailey wears a smile that is almost real or warm, or when he is about to sneer and the only person that seems to notice is PC while Bailey's facade works on anyone else.

PC is always on alert and glancing towards him and analyzing him, because he's their longstanding abuser, and I really love it. I feel seen in this behavior.

But if you reach level grace or second stage in the temple, Jordan will ask to find a spear that you're supposed to find in the smugglers hideout. You will meet Zephyr where they will left you at a island after Them and the crews treat you like shit or a cum dump yntil you faint.

Now here's a thing about the island :

The islanders is a common trope where the "tribe will sacrifice you" and the Ick is the island is CLEARLY based off the stereotype of Hawaiian/Polynesian culture and such.

You will unlock a new tattoo for the sacrifice and the islanders will dump you into the sea.

But here's the thing... The tattoo is basically... The symbol of baphomet?????

Like what does it have to do with the ethicity and culture you took inspo from????

Not you just being racist towards Polynesians but also dehumanize them AND pagan beliefs. Pick a struggle omfg

Call me reach or whatever cause again I don't see anyone mentioning about the island.
