So this is what Valentine's Day is like?
Everything is so nice here, I don't think I've ever seen this many roses in my life!
Has anyone a needle?
Nonsense my flitterbobber! The roses sing for color! They’re very vain you know, and I’m sure they’d love the taste… They’re none too fond of weeds. But the rabbities, they like their clean cups, keep your cup clean so you can move down, down, down, out, and up the rabbit hole! That’s what the treats are for — eat me, drink me, and you’ll get to be through the looking glass with all the other upsie-daisies.
Needles, yes! And threads, lots of threads, any color, every color except white. Everything is so white, all the time, every way, all the ways are the queen’s ways, but white is much more-ish refreshing than red, so one can’t complain too much… The blue! Father snuck me the blue ribbon, so blue would be a nice one, but any color will do just fine!
Fitterbobber, huh, what a funny thing to call me. But roses already have such beautiful colors, they don't just have to be white! Have you ever seen a purple rose? Or a pink one?
Oh um, I'm sorry I'm not sure what any of that means. If I eat treats I'll go through a looking glass? Where is this looking glass?
No white, got it, I'll just give you a whole box of different color threads, and lots of blue! What are you going to use all this thread for? Are you sewing something?
Has anyone a needle?
Or thread? The white rabbities don’t let me keep needles at the party, afraid they’ll get their white roses painted I suppose! What a shame shame shammity sham, it’s all a sham! And it’s a shame… A shame of a sham, their colors aren’t painted so dashingly!
Do you mean roses on paper or like real roses? Because I don't think its a good idea to paint real roses, the chemicals in the paint could harm the flower, possibly kill it! Unless its special botanical paint, does that even exist?
Oh wait -- sorry you had a question. I have lots of needles and threads! Is there a certain color thread you wanted?
This winter weather is terrible for my garden
Oh no - That wouldn’t be very good. Move them away from your bed, it’ll be awful if you were to get hurt! Hehaha, bean? That’s a funny thing to call me! Oh, well on my way flying over to Disney, I met one witch - my friend said she was very snobby, but she could tell fortunes! And my mother is a potions expert. I know she wanted to teach me eventually, too but… It’s too late now! She’ll have to wait until I go back home next year.
Thanks! It’s alright, flying can lose it’s appeal when you do it every day, but hopefully I’ll learn my true powers soon!
Oh hehe its sort of like my family's slang, we use bean to address people. I know it sounds weird, its just tradition I guess. Wow a fortune teller? I wouldn't mind having that power, too bad she wasn't very nice. A potions expert sounds cool too!
I hope you learn your powers soon too! I'd like to hear more about them, its all very interesting. Is there a certain power you'd want to have?
This winter weather is terrible for my garden
Oh, that sounds really neat though! It must be fun having a jungle-like room. Mine’s just filled with old flour I need to sweep up.
Hi Arietty! It’s nice to meet you. Oh you did? Haha yeah, that would’ve been me! It is, but the thing is… Every young witch has to travel to a new place for a year to discover their powers and although I can fly my broom, I haven’t discovered what my unique ability is yet. That’s why I moved here… Maybe it’ll come to be eventually, I’ve just got to try and be patient. It is, especially if it’s very windy too! Sometimes you can fly too high and get caught up with all the geese! That’s never a good idea, but someone’s gotta do my job!
Hehe yeah sometimes I pretend it really is a jungle. Though I probably should do a better job of keeping it somewhat tidy because I'm always tripping over it all when I wake up in the morning or in the middle of the night. Woah that's so cool! You're the first magical bean that I've met since my family and I moved here, and I've heard there's a lot of magic here. What kind of powers do young witches get?
Well, aside from the part about the geese, your job sounds really fun!
This winter weather is terrible for my garden
I bet! My mother back home would keep flowers on the window sills and indoors when she would work on her potions. I think she used them in a few. Maybe if you brought them indoors too that would help?
Oh - nono, sorry. I’m Kiki by the way, I started the delivery service for the bakery just before christmas. But, I fly by broom you see, and it’s really difficult to deliver anything with all this snow! So I’ve been having to bike or - go by foot.
Oh I would but I don't think I have any more room in my house. My bedroom is overflowing with huge plants, its practically a jungle in there! My mother teases me about it all the time hehe.
Oh that's right! Kiki, of course, hello I'm Arrietty! I thought I saw you not too long ago flying around. That's really neat that you travel by broom! It must be very dangerous flying around when it snows.
This winter weather is terrible for my garden
Oh, I know! The weather has stopped me from working almost completely. I don’t think brooms were built for these kind of conditions. But you have a garden? That’s really nice! I’d love to be able to have a garden eventually, maybe I could ask the baker’s if I could look after theirs!
Yeah! Keeping a garden is really nice, I love seeing everything bloom in the springtime, it all looks so pretty. In the winter though my yard looks so empty without it all.
Are you in the cleaning business?
