she takes the time to examine the body again, taking a step in closer as she hovers over it. she’s not bothered by gore ( she can’t be in this lifestyle ) but her face scrunches up anyway, mostly out of confusion as she tries to understand. she’s not DISAPPOINTED, she would never be given the outcome of this all. a creature is dead; that’s GOOD. he did his job. but why this way? why so much more brutal than they’re used to? that’s what leaves her so curious.
❛ you’re never this successful? ❜ she asks, putting the words together & scoffing. ❛ well, no, that’s true. ❜ she doesn’t mind taking a ( figurative ) stab at him even given the situation. ❛ you are successful, i get it —- i just don’t understand. ❜
she stares at him in disbelief as he finally starts talking, not making a move or a sound as she lets him go on. he’s angry, she can tell —– but she’s already kicking herself for not realizing it sooner. was she really that SELFISH to not even notice garrett was suffering through all of this? does he want OUT? what would that mean for them? hands reach out in front of her, & she waves him off. taking a careful step forward, she hopes to calm him down. ❛ garrett, chill. you’re right —– this is what they want. but it’s MESSY, we don’t do messy. but you did that on purpose, didn’t you? ❜ he wants the mess, he wants to go out of his way —– that’s all she can assume. ❛ i didn’t say i wasn’t happy. & i’m not MAD at you. ❜ but maybe when he calms down, they can actually talk about why it’s NOT okay to cause this big of a mess on the job ( yet she can’t deny just how GOOD the body looks covered in its own blood at the hands of her partner in crime. she’s proud. ) ❛ —- stop worrying about me. you know i’ve always got your back. who is everyone else? what are you so afraid of? ❜
while her usual jabs at him often ended in him pouting and whining, the blond ignores it for now. he’ll probably approach it later, but it’s not his biggest concern. ❛ there’s nothing to understand. ❜ now she’s the one confusing him. in his head, all of it makes sense. they’re killers. their job is to kill. he did his job, regardless of how sloppy or excessive it might have been. it’s the fact that she points out that this one was purposely executed in such a disorderly and messy fashion that causes another laugh to uprise. still, he doesn’t answer ( and maybe that’s an answer in itself because, yes, this was on purpose ).
❛ just afraid we’re not getting the full experience, vi. ❜ while his tone is softer, there’s a slight sarcastic undertone tapping at both his voice and his features. hands lift to hers after a moment, blood-drenched fingers locking with sanitary and clean ones before he’s smiling again. his lips part to say something else, but he’s interrupted by the thudding coming from his car across the street. the smile fades into a smirk and he’s dropping her hands in order to reach down and grab his weapon instead. ❛ –––– looks like victim number two is ready to be the star in our encore. ❜
the assassin chuckles to himself before licking his lips once more. ❛ actually, i have a better idea. ❜ he muses curiously, eyebrows arched as his gaze meets the girl in front of him. ❛ i think we should keep him. it’d give the police a prime suspect if he’s missing, and it’s not like anyone would find him at our place. ❜ it’s just an offer ( one that garrett is probably going to go with whether or not violet agrees ). ❛ he’s not supernatural, though. he just kinda stumbled upon me violently ending his best friend’s life, so i might have knocked him out for a few. didn’t think he’d be up this early. ❜ it’s a sly attempt at shifting gears, changing conversations before they got too deep. the less he talked about how he’s losing his mind, the better.
