Was rereading Dante's announcer lines and realised that if the Spiderlings were Sinnerlings none of them would be quite normal about their praise except maybe Albina
Quick note before my yapping, but one thing all current HoS sinners have in common is their lack of mirror matches - that is, one cannot fight the character the ID represents with the Sinner who has that ID, exceptions given for the 12/11 Sinner fights. I tried to keep to this, but Rodya is my exception. If it is intentional [as in, if we get all NFs and Apprentices and the rule still holds] then it could represent lack of reflection or something.
Secondly, I've tried to base it more on similar circumstances that demeanor or physical design [e.g. like how you could say Rodya got the Dulcinia ID becuase of the outfit needed larger breasts to work properly, but thinking of Sir Don as a stand-in for the tax collector makes the story make more sense], or anything that could explore something interesting about the sinner-in-question.
Faust = Valencina
Primarily chosen due to the new Gesellschaft [GSC] info we got end-of-canto, especially the bit about the dead Fausts and how that could transfer to the ID. Also since its been a while since we've had a Kraust-like Faust, one with a much more apparent change in demeanor.
My thoughts are as such: similarly to how our Faust was formerly an admin, Valencina was formerly a Sottocapo of the thumb, both respected positions in their respective organisations, but do not lack all contact with them, only influence and power. Faulencina thus is likely to have fucked up in such a way that it got her kicked out of both - either both at the same time or one leading to the other - and is newly desperate to get back her positions. I'd imagine being locked up in a corridor wouldn't allow one to gain knowledge and contribute to the GSC, as part of the reason [or at least the reason given] she was kicked.
Though I'd imagine that her position is more like Maost's, wherein she isnt entirely disconnected - perchance they just gave her the minimum access rights and told her she'll get as many as she wants if she can give them information on MugaShu or her MW equivelant.
Both as well are parts in a machine to complete something-or-other [Arayashiki's perfect wielder and the sapling-planting] - said completion being seen as a way to regain said status and by all means being their end goals.
As well, Val's hidden eye is a relic that specialises in a form of precognition, which just reminded me of the GSC. A thousand more of the same person with who-knows-what amounts of info and calculating a resonable outcome to any situation seems possible enough. Plus, Val's overreliance on her eye could mirror Fau's reliance on the GSC.
I also find the way Valencina found Lucio to be not too dismilar to how our Faust picked up the Sinners.
Rodya = Lucio
I, as with many, thought this would probably be Heath, not too dissimilarly to how I thought Rodya would fit as Mattias. And then I thought about it and realised miss killed-so-her-neighbors-could-eat-for-once probably wouldn't commit such a brazen and petty betrayl of anyone she considers even close to family and that thinking of Val as Lucio's version of the tax collector makes the Thumb Apprentice much more of a likely fit. Also I had come up with a meaner idea for Heath.
Both of them are heavily tied to their former lives in the backstreets, though that doesn't mean much, but Rodion being a tailored textbook, to have a purpose just for her [even one that is only just to teach one much more valued, her purpose being given to be a stepping stone for something long in the future] could be really interesting to see being explored.
There remains the question of to kill or not to kill. What would be gained by success and what would be lost in terms of failure? Rodya hesitated too little, Lucio, too much.
Meursault = Callisto
Honestly at first it was becuase they were both tall and I wanted to do some cool shading with the hat and then I Thought About It.
For one, Calli, compared to the rest of the NFs, hadn't really done anything of particular offence to the rest of the Ring, as far as I know, as was primarily punished for the crime of being outmoded, boring. They acknowledge his skills, thus his homework, but their decision to send him to the deathtrap that is the House of Spiders seems honestly quite arbitrary. And thus I compare it to Meursault, who in his novel of inspiration [as far as I have seen in the discussion about it] is judged in court primarily due to being kind of odd instead of the man he killed in broad daylight. A decision most arbitrary.
As well, I think back to Hell's Chicken, and how his food was described as good but by the books. Not bad per se, just boring. Reproductions of what another would make with little to no personal touches. Calli as well has taught Albina to be almost entirely like him, just teaching her what he knows and getting her to replace her body entire body and make a sword out the rest just as he did. Which then reminds me of how Meur simply does as he's told more often than not.
Not to mention how it would be an interesting way to further explore how he thinks of humanity and the human condition. Doesn't quite show here but I drew him with a metal lower jaw, and thought he'd keep most of his face in tact aside from that, aside as well from the glass that houses his head and is where that stupid hat I love sits.
Hong Lu = Albina
Heterochromia & the way her hair works would probably look weird on someone with short hair. Also Fascia needing human flesh reminded me of how some of the Xianren seemed to need to eat people to maintain their forms.
We don't have a lot to go on for her circumstances, but in terms of how she acts its easy to see an alternate Hong Lu in there.
The way a few of her skill names and a good chunk of her lines act as if Fascia, while inanimate, dicates a non insignificant amount of what she does and what she can do [e.g. being late to her first in-canto fight because 'Fascia's a sleepyhead'] could be easily transfered over to a Hong Lu who gives himself up and acts for the sake of entertaining the Xianren, thus explaining joining the Ring in the first place - given what we've seen of their tastes.
I'd imagine that the sword's cover would have a peephole right over the eye, so he can plant it down like a cameraman and give them a show.
Heathcliff = Araya
Wild Hunt Mirror World Part 2. Araya is Heathcliff. A Heath of the Cliffs. She could just slot herself next to the rest of Heath's IDs and nobody would notice for a while.
But yeah it's primarily due to the both of them having wedding motifs [her outfit and his ring], a focus on revenge caused by a form of what they see as abandonment, being on different ends of a concept incinerator, permanent weapon changes, being unable to see and accept a targets feelings until it is just about to be too late for any of it to matter, a bunch of other smaller things and the fact the World of Wuthering Heights is just the biggest Canto 9 spoiler ever. Wibbly wobly timey-wimey stuff also.
In game would probably be in a man's wedding outfit instead of the Dihui star's exact one but I drew him in this one.
If I'm right about any of these I will get So annoying.
