Spotify is an app that allows you to listen to music with a monthly payment. They have music from millions of artists available to anyone with a subscription and there are features that allow you to create playlists and shuffle, loop, or just listen to them all the way through.

This is a very useful app for AppState students. It shows which gym classes are taking place every day of the week. Also, it can track your outdoor activities and connect you with other devices, which allows you to monitor your exercises and health life much better. It is very quick and easy to navigate through.

I found this book absolutely amazing for its creativity with the typography forms and graphic arts. It does indeed play with your feelings... by placing the text in different positions, with different sets of spaces, along with a range of images and colors. Its primary intention is to trigger your memories and perceptions. Very interesting.

This is a hand sanitizer machine from Purell. Its slogan is displayed at the top of the machine’s support and the instructions for use are displayed above the dispenser, where your eyes can capture very easily.

Aquafina is a water brand very famous world wide. Many people can recognize it simply by just looking at the graphic art behind the “AQUAFINA.” typeface. Despite its recognition, I don’t really like its design. It could be much more explored and sophisticate (many aspects of it).

This is an information poster displayed on top of a recycled bin at Appalachian State University library. It explains to people what are the actual materials that can be recycled and the ones that cannot. The design’s organization is very clear and “fast-picking” by people, mainly because of the illustrations and the big, bold, capitalized letters. When a person goes throw something in the trash can, that person probably is not much willing to read long texts of information before doing it so, because he or she is only thinking about disposing of that good and then continuing whatever activity they were doing. Thus, you need a simplistic and clear set of instructions, with illustrations, to help people with the disposal of recyclables.

This is a hand drawn advertisement poster from YMCA targeting the women. Extremely smart design! It is very feminist, saying that women are also hard workers and that they also deserve to exercise, and take care for their health.  This advertisement (campaign)  was made post Second World War of during. Very interesting how they played with the letter “M” and “W” too.

This sign marks the overlook and the elevation. This helps drivers on the parkway understand where they are and what they are looking at.

This is a map of the intercoastal waterway at the beach and it is color coded so the viewer can understand the map easier.

This is a star map and you move the layers around to find the right constellations in the sky.

This is a trash sign that has the purpose of informing you that that is a landfill trash can, therefore you can dispose what is designated to that category of trash in that can. Thus, besides having the informative function it is designed for the social good, with zero intention of advertisement. A website about the Appalachian State University’s credentials and project towards disposal is displayed along with the sign, with the intention to make you more aware of the disposal processes.

Coffee cup lids are very functional and useful, because they very often tell you whether your drink, contains cream, sugar, coffee, or if it’s just decaf. Plus, it protects your drink from spilling and burning your skin (not your mouth skin, of course). Thus, we are constantly interacting with coffee cup lids, even when it’s just for the matter of playing with the “cream, sugar, decaf” bumps. It also has the purpose to indicate to the workers what type of drink that is. Thus, it is a interactive design.

The Starbucks logo’s typography is very strong and marking in my opinion, it looks like a type of bold Helvetica, all capitalized. It is very simple, although very modern and assertive. It’s almost like you can hear the Starbucks founder saying “That’s it.” “That is my brand.” “Period.”

This is a graphic art that has the intention to organize people on the environment (downtown Winston Salem) and to also tell people to take a look at downtown’s website so they can find out about special deals and sales that are happening around downtown Winston Salem. The colors and the design calls a lot your attention, so you stop to see what it is about and you discover about their website. It is very effective in my opinion.

This is a logo a made for no one but for myself during my free time. I enjoy building those random logos for my imaginary companies haha In this case, I was thinking about a toys store or company that produces old time games and toys. That was my inspiration. Thus, I came up with this very fantastic and retro image of a ballon flying over hills, kind of like what a kid’s imagination does.

This is an informative poster that I found at the Appalachian State University library. Its purpose is to inform the students in which shelf they can find the category of media they want. For that, the design designates numbers to each category and subcategory. Overall the design is extremely well organized, displays a clear hierarchy with the use of color, letter sizing, word position, and illustrations. Very easy to navigate through and  find what you want by looking at it.
