Physical objects as a storage medium to symbolise our memories. - A3 acrylic painting that I've created based on some writing I've done for my book project. in the first section, I talk about the etymology of the word memory and how we give memory a physical form by creating a sentimental attachment to material or physical object.
The Bitcoin Miner
A3 Acrylic painting I recently created using the idea of cryptocurrency as a representation of our data going into one big system processing it into digital information which then fuels bigger data to collect digital information similar to oil in its raw form.
Dedication to William Morris -
Decided to paint my Morris chair sketch, I have fused aspects of his chair design and his well-known patterns to create a piece which reflects his legacy. I used acrylic paint, coloured pencils and a range of drawing pens.
Dedication to William Morris. Pencil drawing of the Morris chair combining both his botanical floral patterns and his keen eye for 3D furniture design. “If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful” (William Morris 1882)
PAW creative - The new logo design I’ve created for myself, my website and business cards. I have used adobe illustrator for the line and colour originally using a drawing from my sketchbook. The colours are cyan, magenta, yellow and black as these are the primary colours for digital software.
Singularity - Man and Machine
A short video I've created using facial tracking and various plugins within Adobe After Effects. I wanted to reflect on how Artificial Intelligence works and the effects it could have on humans as it uses our data to form its own mind. For the audio, I played and recorded my Tongue drum layering it with voice recordings of myself talking about AI and what it is.

3 pieces of advice I will always remember
1.) People love your art until they have to pay for it! - this was something I saw on a sign a while back. There’s a lot of truth behind it too. Having gained experience working in the industry over the past few years painting murals, I have experienced a few times that when you want to be paid for a piece they say they “love” instantly they begin questioning your time, skill and price. From this I have begun to stand my ground, and have tried to educate people like this that if they want a truly high-quality piece of art, they need to understand that they need to be willing to pay for it, that is why now, before I start a piece for a customer I will always agree a fixed price, so they know exactly how much it will be upon completion.
2.) Just keep doing what your doing - I get told this a lot, and I guess it’s the best advice I’ve been told as I don’t really have a set plan on what I’m doing half the time when I begin a new project, which from this, I always seem to surprise myself. As an artist who doesn’t necessarily have a set style, this I feel makes my work become limitless as I can adapt my skills to create a unique visual language.
3.) Be better than the man before you - Something I was told when I have begun my Painting and decorating apprenticeship, yet now since doing my illustration degree at Stockport College I have taken this piece of advice and used it within my illustration and art practice. Reason being, the art industry is a very competitive market and I feel it is always important to be one step ahead rather than falling behind.
Using a photograph I took of a Victor Vasarely piece I saw at his museum in Budapest, to create a quick visual animation adding a snippet of a piece of music I’ve been working on. I created this using Adobe After Effects with the mirror effect, duplicating the image a number of times and altering the angles every second.
My book cover for adult fiction penguin book awards - The front of the book cover is made out of 51 matches to represent the number of matches Toru lays down for each song Reiko plays towards the ending of the novel. It creates the Japanese flag of the rising sun, which not only is a representation of where the novel is set but it is a reference to the rising of the flag Toru refers to when living in his dorms during his time at college. I have coloured the 'O' in Norwegian as black to represent Toru, and the other two 'Os' as red to represent Naoko and Midori. I didn't want to be obvious or too descriptive in my book cover. For the back, I photographed a burnt match using it to create an outline of a figure. Towards the middle of the book Nagasawa. says “When you’re surrounded by endless possibilities, one of the hardest things you can do is pass them up.” referring to the number of women he has any plans on sleeping with. When reading this it made me think about Dating websites especially Tinder’s swipe left swipe right matching system, picking and choosing from an endless selection of people in hope they match with yourself, and if it doesn’t work out you can just move onto the next person, similar to a match when its when it has burned out, you can just throw away and relight another one. I didn’t want to clutter the book cover too much and decided to use a minimal colour palette. The marks around the edges give the overall cover an aged distressed look.
Loneliness makes the world a darker place... Scan QR code for video and music piece I made for my self initiated project. I have used a range of mediums to create my video, including footage of my self and still artwork. I have also begun to introduce After Effects into my work as well. To create the music I used Garageband, which again is fairly new to me. I'm not 100% happy with the final results as I still think some areas need a lot of improvement, however considering I've only scratched the surface when it comes to digital animation etc, I wouldn't say it was that bad of a job.
Cutting up all my images from the video I made and weaving them all back together to create one big piece. I wanted to capture and reflect the progression of my chosen song using each mark made as a representation of the different sounds I picked up on when listening to “what goes around comes around” by Peter Byrom-Smith.
A pattern I have created using the marks I made whilst listening to a piece of classical music. I have also made a small video to go alongside the music which I will hopefully get it posted soon.
Working on a gif, I have looked at how social media is affecting our self-esteem, completely shutting us off from the real world. I have created my images combined traditional painting methods with Digital technology, its been a learning curve.
