Céilidh or Céilí (depending on language) is a word meaning to visit or often referring to a certain kind of social event with dancing. It’s usage as a name is afaik a modern thing and isn’t really done among Gaelic speakers.

That said.

Do you not think that the attitude that you describe here (you “honest to God” knew someone with a name originating in a Gaelic language and everyone made fun of her for it) might be exactly the thing that this post is using humour to criticise?
