Any intersex water deer facts?

Well, the only study I've found is the one I originally linked in my intersex deer post. While does do have fangs, they usually aren't visible over the lip like those of bucks -- but in this study, out of 185 females culled in South Korea, 3 had elongated fangs. One was also notably smaller than other females her age (which, unusually for cervids, female water deer average slightly larger and/or heavier than males).

This means that those three does likely had heightened testosterone, though the study unfortunately didn't go into depth regarding the cause. All three were pregnant, so it didn't cause infertility -- similar to antlered does in other species.

Hopefully there are more studies on this in the future!
