ok i feel crazy reading through the tag for sinners because theres this very weird pervasive notion that it seems like people do not understand remmick and his kkk member first victims are in fact lying repeatedly throughout the movie. like they lie. we know they lie because they promise all they want is to come inside and play music for the juke joint. that is not true at all as they want to come inside and kill everyone.
so why are there so many posts resting on the notion that they are unable to lie when these same vampires say they dont believe in the kkk anymore and just want equality.
"when remmick de-racist-ifyed the former kkk members" did we watch the same movie. no the fuck he did not. that woman was lying when she said they no longer worked with the kkk. because she wanted to eat the people still inside. good lord.
We established incredibly early on to the movie that the KKK lie! It's their main thing! They lie that the vampire ain't in their house, they lie that the Klan is gone, they lie about that musician to lynch him in a train station. Folks ain't got no media literacy.
yes exactly! + this reply too
there's a huge theme of historical lying to black americans to exploit and kill them. the devil is smarter than to look scary for his victims!
FINALLY someone brings up how they were lying about the Klan from jump! We literally saw the dudes Klan robes in the house before/when the Choctaw hunters were chasing Remmick down! They dead just didn't pay attention to anything in the movie!
No. I'm sorry but no. There are clearly defined reasons why Remmick is shown to not be racist. First, when he calls the Choctaw by their name until Burt and June call them 'Injuns'. Then, we're shown that when he makes a vampire they share his thoughts and feelings, which is why they switch to his plan of starting a new coven with the black folk, turning them instead of just killing them outright. Third, and most importantly, Remmick didn't have to be Irish, he could've been anything else, but he was written as Irish because he genuinely sympathizes with the colonization of the black community. He brings up the colonization of his own people to drive that point home. The problem with his entire plan is he's still doing irreparable harm to the community he's trying to 'save'.
He's meant to represent the white moderate, who believes themselves above the lowly cross burning racists and yet still perpetuate harm to the community.
But you don't have to take my word for it. You can hear it from Ryan Coogler himself.
