KIGO - WIP fic starter
I have had this floating around in my drive for a while and after seeing something posted about the KP series bible I wanted to get back into writing. Don't know if anyone will see this but I'd love feedback. -- It seemed unnaturally quiet and still for what was supposed to be a main thoroughfare for goods on the east coast. In the midst of the Boston harbor at night, one would expect more noise; crews of men bustling about to complete orders before the morning sun, or merchants tearing down their stalls as they finished packing up for the night. But in the early, yet dark, hours of a cold December night, it was unnerving to stand in the midst of silence. Perhaps she should have expected it, being three days before Christmas. Though having been on these docks several times before in her life, Kim Possible found it odd. The young adult took another step forward from behind a large shipping container, which was a rusted red color, paint chipping off on all sides from the brutal sea air. Her red hair picked up from her back in the chilling wind. The wind whipped violently every few minutes, pulling at the dark purple sleeves of her mission shirt. As she tucked a few locks of hair behind her ear, she cursed herself for decidedly not grabbing a jacket before leaving. Something just didn't feel right about it; the only intact jacket she had was a onyx one from Club Banana she had gotten years ago, and yet she couldn't bring herself to wear it. She mused on this as she watched the waves crash against the pier. Every time she came across that coat, she felt an unsettling knot form in her stomach, something she just couldn't explain. She bit her lip and grimaced just thinking about it, thinking about the way her blood would heat up in a fit of anger, jealousy, distrust... but most concerning of all, guilt. "Where is this person?" She muttered to herself, forcing the accompanying images from her mind. "I don't have all--" Kim stopped immediately, and took a sure footed step backwards, all of the muscles in her arms and torso tensing as of ready for a fight. Her body stiffened in a tangibly familiar way, as if prepared for someone she knew. "It can't be..." She muttered. She turned around and postured herself into a fighting stance, taking a few choice steps out into the dimly lit docks. The single halogen light that hung from the nearest store house did little to illuminate the area, but she was thankful for any sort of visual help. "Are you 'Dragon?'" She called into the darkness she had just crawled from. She knew whoever it was had lurked close behind her. "Come out and show yourself." She waited for a moment and listened closely beyond the howling wind that pulled at her once more before slowly lulling into a breeze. After a quiet moment she saw a lithe silhouette gently move within the shadows. Kim lifted an elegant eyebrow. The form moved silently as it walked towards her from between the shipping containers. Kim instinctively took a step back. Nearly everything inside her told her she knew this person. “Who are you?” She iterated. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up as she watched the form slowly step from the shadows. “Oh, Princess, you knew who I was the minute you stepped foot on this pier…” The voice responded in a sultry tone. It purred and seemed to drip with venom laced honey. As if touched by fire, Kim automatically took a step back and pulled her hands in front of her for defense. “Shego…” She said in nearly a whisper. “Yes, Kimmie?” The woman said as she stepped full from between the cargo containers, clad in her traditional black and green catsuit. “Surprised to see me?” She asked with a chuckled. She sauntered another few steps forward and softly laughed again when she saw Kim tense up and pull herself further into her position. “You disappeared-- No one has seen you for years....” She did her best not to stammer over her words as she looked at the ghost of a woman before her. “Funny thing about that, Kimmie--” She raised a hand flippantly, “I’m a criminal and criminals have a funny way of disappearing off the radar when they don’t want to be seen.” Kim took a confident step forward when Shego continued her slow pace. “Then why are you here?” Kim practically growled. She could feel her eyes stinging and her hands shaking, but she couldn’t figure out why. She had a pain deep in her chest and she didn’t know what to feel. “Simple, Pumpkin.” Shego stopped her pace. “I’ve come to warn you.” “Warn me?” Kim replied, shocked. Her stance loosened for merely a moment before she reasserted herself. “Why would you come to warn me about anything…?” She growled. Shego crossed her arms and sighed. “It’s about Drakken.” She dead-panned. “Drakken? But he’s reformed, isn’t he?” Kim gaped for a moment when Shego scoffed and crossed her arms. “That’s what he’d have you believe.” She muttered. “But he is working on something big. Almost as big as the Little Diablo scheme.” Shego took another step forward and lowered her arms to her side non-threateningly. “And if you don’t get to him first, you’ll--” Shego paused for a moment and seemed to grit her teeth. “Things are going to get ugly real fast…” Kim raised an eyebrow. ‘She’s not telling me the truth… I can see if in her posture… she’s hiding something…’ She thought to herself. Kim acted as if she were going to disengage her stance and moved to the right of Shego, watching her every move. The other woman remained still and simply watched, but Kim didn’t notice that. Out of nowhere she launched herself at Shego, aiming to slug her in the chest to knock the wind out of her. Shego watched the other girl for a moment, watched as she tensed up her legs, moving to flank her. ‘Not very smooth of you, Princess…’ She thought. As Kim moved to attack, Shego swiftly grabbed Kim by the wrist and pulled the redhead's arms behind her. She grabbed the other wrist and held steadfast to it. Shego pulled Kim’s arms behind her and kept her hands in a tight grip. “Aw, just couldn’t wait to have your arms around me? How sweet…” Shego let that venom honey drip from her voice once more and Kim was forced to look into her eyes. She was close to the other woman, so close that it was a distraction to have that velvet voice so near to her ear. Kim struggle to remove herself from Shego’s grip but to no avail. ‘Since when was Shego this strong!?’ She thought as she grunted in frustration. “You wish Shego…” Kim refuted under her breath. She tried fruitlessly for another moment or two to free herself from Shego’s grasp, but with no indication of the other woman even breaking a sweat. “Kimmie, what are you doing?” Shego asked offhandedly. She lifted an eyebrow and studied the young woman in front of her. Kim continued to try and defy Shego’s grip on her. “Kimmie.” She said again. That’s when Kim looked up with glossy eyes. “Why should I trust you?” Kim gritted her teeth and spoke through them to even her breathing. “Huh!? Why?” Shego was taken aback, but her grip didn’t loosen any. Her brow furrowed, now frustrated. “Because I’m trying to help you, Cup-Cake.” Shego spat the nickname at her, syllable by syllable. “Why though!?” Kim shouted again. “Because--” “No Shego! I don’t want you bullshit excuses!” Kim threw her body at Shego, relenting that she was not going to be freed. It took Shego by surprise and she had dig her heels into the decades old wood beneath her boots to keep a steady posture. Kim continued to thrash and try and free her arms from behind Shego. The raven-haired woman huffed and pursed her lips into an irritated line before taking the young woman’s arms and forcefully moving their position so she was behind Kim holding her arms crossed behind her back. Kim growled almost primally and tried to kick her legs up in front of her to flip out of Shego’s grip. The mercenary simply took her own leg and wrapped it around one of Kim’s, entangling her into an uncomfortable position. Kim jerked uselessly. She threw herself backward to try and knock Shego down. She tried to kick her free leg behind her. She tried to flip sideways and twist out of Shego’s grip. But Shego held tight, tighter than Kim thought she could. “Kimmie--” “No, Shego! I don’t trust you!” Kim yelled. Shego’s grip loosened slightly, but by this point Kim was too exhausted to notice. “You disappear for three years after the Lowardian invasion and suddenly you come back to leave an anonymous note, in my room,” she enunciated, “And expect me to listen to you!?” Kim craned her neck a little to look at Shego and her glossy eyes shone bright luminescent green in the dim incandescent lights of the dockside pier. The thief seemed stunned. Her expression was unreadable, but she looked into Kim’s eyes for a long moment as the hero panted heavily, out of breath. “How do I know you haven’t been off creating even more havoc? Hurting innocent people for your own gain? Huh!? How do I know!?” Kim’s statement grew in intensity as she spoke and with renewed vigor, she began to thrash again, pushing her free leg behind her and hooking it around Shego’s. Shego tried to counter, but it was too late. Her shock at Kim’s statement and the force of the young woman suddenly bucking backwards forced her to the ground and beneath the hero. Kim quickly released herself from her imprisonment and shifted her body rapidly to straddle Shego and hold the other woman’s arms above her head. “Tell me that, Shego…” Kim huffed. Shego lay there for a moment, contemplating what Kim had said. She felt a lot of different grievances in that moment, as she watched Kim, but none so debilitating as when she looked into the tear laden eyes of her nemesis. Shego drew back at the sight. And she could only think of one thing to do; get angry. It’s worked for her so far. “I don’t hurt people, Princess!!” She could feel her body’s temperature begin to rise and her blood boil with the flame that burned inside. “How dare you accuse me of that…” Her voice was low and despondent, not at all holding the animosity she had intended. But Kim did stop. She looked at Shego for a moment and took in her features. Shego was doing her best to look away from Kim, anywhere but the young hero’s eyes. When the hero felt regret form a tight ball in her chest. She loosened her hands and slowly moved them to rest on Shego’s shoulder, still feigning the fact that she was in control. “Then why are you trying to talk to me?” Kim prodded further. “Especially under such-- ridiculous secrecy?” Shego looked at her with an expression that told Kim she was being stupid. “You wouldn’t have come out here if I had signed it ‘Yours truly, Shego,’ now would you…?” The thief said sarcastically. “Yes I would!” Kim admonished. “No, Princess! No, you wouldn’t!” Shego nearly spat at the girl but restrained herself. “After you reacted like this, do you really, honestly think you would have agreed to come see me?” Shego was growing more irritated by the moment. She flexed her fingers trying to release the buildup of adrenaline in her system, but by this point her blood was laced with it. “And at least I was nice enough to leave a note instead of surprising you in your house!” And with that, Shego lifted her hips and bucked her torso forward, flipping Kim off of her and gaining enough force to twirl backwards. She landed in a loose defensive position in a feeble attempt to keep Kim off of her. Taken aback though, Kim had no time to react and she fell onto her rear. She sat up and held a hand to her head before looking at Shego, whose face was steely and cold. It was a strange sight for Kim; she had never seen the other woman so emotionless, so blank. It caused her to recoil into herself again. With a heavy sigh, she leaned forward, resting both arms on her knees. She looked at the dock beneath her solemnly, silently for what seemed like more than a few brief seconds. It irked Shego. But Kim eventually moved to stand, realizing that Shego would have no problem taking advantage of her in this state. She stood up off the ground, outwardly confident once again, but inside it felt as though her chest were trying to rip itself asunder. “Alright, Shego…” Kim said in a softer tone. It shook the other woman to her very core. Shego slowly released her defensive stance and tilted her head somewhat. Kim was looking straight into her eyes. “I’ll bite.” The hero tried to offer a smile, one that, oddly enough, Shego returned sadistically. “Oh Princess, we haven’t reached that level in our relationship yet.” She chuckled low in her throat. To Kim, Shego suddenly seemed very close, closer than she should be and the thief leaned in eerily near. “We better leave that.. kinky shit.. for another day..” Her voice was surprisingly sultry as her eyes looked to Kim’s lips then back to her eyes and the smile she wore was disarming. In an instant, Kim felt her cheeks burn bright red, a stark contrast to her light skin even in the dim light. She was inwardly cursing how close she had allowed Shego to get and the sudden push from the still steady wind at her back wasn’t helping her. She shivered from the cold-- or perhaps from the heat; she couldn’t really tell. She knew one thing though: She needed to get away from her now “Shego!” She finally hollered after a long silence. She took her open palms and shoved Shego’s shoulders to push her back. “How-- Why would-- I mean--” She stammered over her words and started to feel the rest of her body burn when she heard her foe give a hearty laugh. When she looked up at the other woman, Shego was bent over from the force of her laughter. “What!?” Kim stomped her foot like the defiant teenager she was no longer supposed to be. When Shego finally regained her composure, she stood up and stepped back up to Kim, but kept enough distance as not to upset the redhead. “Ive--” She started, but she bit her lip and rethought her words. “I forgot how much of a prude you were.” Satisfied with her response and the reaction of a gaping Kim, Shego crossed her arms and chuckled again. Kim crossed her arms as well, but in a much for defiant position. “I am not a-- We are getting off the subject, Shego!” Kim fumed. “You know you’re cute when you’re angry.” Shego said in jest. But the shock and burn on Kim’s cheeks made her laugh again. “Oh my god, Kimmie, it's a joke, c’mon.” Kim just grumbled under her breath for a moment and looked away from the dark haired woman. “Can we get on with it please…?” Kim was trying to act as though she were looking over the environment, but to Shego it was plain that she was too embarrassed to look at her. The shuffling of the young hero’s feet and the way she held herself as the wind tugged at her hair made Shego’s chest ache. It was a new sensation. One that she unfortunately relented to, but not without making it appear on her own terms. “Alright, alright, Princess.” She said in a softer tone than Kim had ever heard. It caused the hero to look up. “Spoil all my fun, why don’t you.” Shego rolled her eyes. Kim stuck her tongue out for a moment before turning to face Shego again. “So what is this ‘grand scheme,’” Kim held up air quotes, “that Drakken has planned?” “I don’t know all of the specifics, but I do know that Drakken has finally snapped.” Shego began. She took a breath and tried to gather her thoughts, preparing what she wanted to say and what she wanted to leave out. “I’m back under his employment--” Kim scoffed and Shego simply glared at her. “Hey, you would be too if you got offered that kind of money.” Kim rolled her eyes this time. “As I was saying… I’ve been watching him for a few months now. He has completely changed. He hasn’t monologued on why he decided to turn back to his evil ways, but whatever it was finally made him think he could really be the greatest villain in the world.” Kim lifted and eyebrow, but motioned for Shego to continue. “All he has been talking about has been the destruction of the world and how he wants to watch everyone suffer.” That caught Kim’s attention and she lowered her arms. “I know; it doesn’t sound anything like how he used to be… Before it was whining for attention and craving mommy’s love,” Shego stuck her tongue out in disgust as she spoke. “But now it’s volatile explosions, torture, and suffering. And what’s worse is that he has newly supplied henchmen, all of which have been equipped with guns that have been modified from the technology he worked on after the Lowardian invasion. “In retrospect, there are villains far worse than Drakken with guns, but I’ve always said that given the proper motivation, he could be very dangerous. Little Diablo was just the tip of the iceberg. I’ve seen designs for machines and nuclear devices previously thought impossible by most scientists. But I can never get a good enough look at them to see exactly what he’s doing. Drakken has been very secretive about these plans.” Shego paused for a moment and let the information sink in for Kim. “And I’m scare--” Shego bit her lip again before continuing. “I’m… genuinely freaked out by his behavior. Because the last time he did this-- he... ” Shego was struggling to save face and she bit her lip again as she let her words drift off. “Yeah… He tried to ruin my life then kill me while I was distracted…” Kim seemed lost in thought, enough to look away from Shego and begin a slow pacing movement. Shego listened to the gently thrumming of Kim’s shoes on the wooden docks and waited for a response. After a moment, Kim stopped and turned around to look at Shego again. “But what I don’t get is why are you telling me this?” Kim gestured loosely towards Shego. “I mean, if you’re so loyal to him that you’d go back to work for him after three years--” “I have my reasons, Kimmie, just leave it at that.” Shego spat, unexpectedly defensive. Kim put her hands up as if to motion ‘alright, fine,’ but the thought remained stuck in the back of her mind. “Is there anything else you can tell me? Anything that might help me get to him before this culminates into something bigger?” “That’s all I know.” Shego said quickly and went to move away from Kim. She had said enough and needed to get out, remove herself from the hero’s presence before something she didn’t want to say slipped out. She brushed passed the young woman swiftly and moved to disappear behind the shipping containers once more. “Shego wait--” Kim reached out and grabbed the other woman’s wrist. Shego stopped and looked down at the gloved hand that encircled her own. She bit down hard on her lip again before she turned her head to look at Kim. She took a long hard look at the girl, who seemed lost in her own head, analyzing the details and trying to scan what she could on the thief. In reality, Kim was wondering if she should ask her other more prominent questions before Shego was gone from her life once more. “Yes?” Shego said as she lifted the hand Kim held to break her out of her reverie. “W-will you-- can you give me the location of the lair?” Kim quickly stammered out. Shego looked at her for a moment longer and did her best to not linger on the hero’s eyes. ‘She’s not saying something…’ Shego thought with an elegantly arched eyebrow. “Yeah. He’s deep in the Mojave desert. Death Valley area.” She’s voice was rather soft. “Have Nerdlinger do a scan. If he can’t find it, I’ll be in contact again.” With that statement, Kim seemed to breath easily and her grip on Shego’s hand loosened. But before she could ask another question, the mercenary had gently removed herself from Kim’s grip and slipped back between the shipping containers. “Till next time, Kimmie.” She said as she disappeared. “It’s been fun.” With that, Kim was left to her thoughts, along on the docks of Boston on a cold winter night. She didn’t shiver again though, as she walked along the expanse of the pier towards her car. She couldn’t think about the temperature outside. She was too distracted by the memory of Shego and the last few words she had spoke. The meeting was different from all the other’s she had experienced with Shego. It wasn’t rough and fast, vying to get the edge on one another. The physical endurance they scrambled over was menial at best, but the images stuck in her mind now more so than any other encounter ever had. As Kim slipped into the driver's seat of her modified car, she took a long look out at the single incandescent light that hung above the door of the last store house on the pier. It was a strangely beautiful glow when contrasted against the endless abyss of the ocean. It seemed fitting somehow. And it was all she thought about as she pulled the car out of the harbor and allowed it to drive her home.
