''Sonic's writing has always been consistent and flawless in the games!''
yeah no
This character
This is not the same character
This Sonic
is not this Sonic
So are you actually gonna explain each of these examples? Because none of these really correlate.
Cherrypicking two “positive” examples of Sonic saying comforting words...with more cherrypickng two “negative” ones of a intentionally humorous scene and telling the bad guy of why friendship = good (yunno something he ALSO did in Heroes), are not sufficient proof you’re perceiving them to be. Having different writers being told to give different directions for how the different stories had to be told is not indicative of making Sonic’s character ‘inconsistent.’ At his core, he has remained the same across each these examples. You just have to actually pay attention.
You want Sonic actually being inconsistent at the whims of the writers or plot? Look no further than the likes of Archie/IDW.
Please control your raging hateboner for Pontaff next time. They’ve been gone for 6 years now, so hope you enjoy the mediocrity we’ll still get that’s in a different coat of paint as a result of bullying them out of Sonic.
By their own logic, I could just as easily claim that this Sonic
is not this Sonic
Do you see why cherrypicking doesn’t work, OP?
If you can't tell the difference between Sonic saying one-liners once in a while and making that his entire personality later on, I can't help you. I don't care about idw or archie, I don't read comic books. I love video games.
Sonic is first-most a video game franchise. I expect the writing to be fitting for Sonic's character the most.
I can already tell you guys believe Sonic Team can't do no wrong, the fact you guys turn to whataboutism already shows that.
The problem is not Pontaff.
I didn't even mention IDW or Archie in my reply. I was keeping this focused solely on Game Sonic.
It's not really about Sonic's specific dialogue though, is it. Sure, that's one thing people like to focus on, but we know it's only one useful ingredient of the overall point they're actually making: that the Adventure-Black Knight games as a whole were 100% smart and serious the whole way through, while the post-2010 games as a whole were 100% jokes and cringe. That's what all the posts that cherrypick quotes from both eras ultimately amount to, including quotes from other characters, and so far I've yet to see how this is any different from similar posts.
Also, a couple of days ago, I criticised the fandom's tendency to place extremely flawed games ('06, ShtH) on a golden pedestal and claim they're masterpieces because of effort and intention-shaped brownie points. I've also been criticising Frontiers for a while now, and not just because of Flynn's involvement with the English script. I've criticised some sacred cows on occasion, like SA2 and Unleashed, and I've never said the Pontaff era didn't have any weaknesses. Just because I'm fed up with the Fuck SEGA/Sonic Team fandom mantra doesn't mean I think they're flawless.
Sorry, that was for darklightheart. I don't use tumblr a lot anymore.
I dislike, no hate Frontiers.
yes Sonic 06 is very flawed and not a good game. The script is a giant mess. Plo tholes everywhere.
but ngl there is something about Sonic in 06 that I miss now.
When Forces, lost World, Frontiers and such, try to have these serious tender moments with Sonic. it does not feel the same to me.
