“WAKE UP IT’S CHRISTMAS!”
“HURGH!” Arthur jackknifed and very nearly launched Mystery off the bed in surprise from being landed on. “Ow, what the heck?”
“‘Why the heck’ would be a more appropriate question, don’t you think?” Mystery hopped off the bed as Arthur shooed him away, only to start running tight circles on the floor while chanting, “Christ-mas! Christ-mas!”
Arthur, on the other hand, was too tired to be that excited. The energy would come in time, of course. But just then he wanted to snuggle back under the blankets and take his time waking up. Not that he’d be able to go back to sleep with Mystery getting louder and louder as impatience built up. Finally, he snapped, “Aren’t trickster demons supposed to be super patient or something?”
“I was fired for a reason!”
“What?” Mystery Put his paws on the side of the bed and looked up at Arthur, tail wagging so hard his body was wiggling. Even so, he did his best to fold his ears down and put up as pitiful a display as possible. It didn’t work, of course, but Arthur still laughed at the attempt and swung his legs over the side of the bed in defeat, which set Mystery off again.
Arthur had to carefully step around Mystery and navigate the chaos of his room in search of his arm and morning meds. Once medicated, he pointed to the stairs and laughed as Mystery very nearly fell down in his haste.
By the time Arthur finally reached the landing, Mystery had seated himself with his back to the tree and was vibrating so hard Arthur was sure he would vibrate through the floor. Vivi was on the couch, eyeing a few colorful boxes and sprawled across Lewis’ lap.
Lewis was the first to notice Arthur and he called, “Over here! I’ve been told I’m quite cozy.”
“Not sure there’s enough room,” Arthur said, only to be pulled down by Vivi.
“Those are the words of a coward!”
“Or someone who doesn’t want to fall off the couch.” Arthur laughed as he was very nearly pushed off in response.
The trio settled into a comfortable silence, just enjoying each other’s company. The moment came to an abrupt end when Mystery jumped on them with the demand of, “Christmas! Now!”
