me, having deeply fallen out of the practice of writing poetry: I can’t write any more, I am now a Talentless Hack
the voice of my 11th grade journalism/12th grade creative writing teacher who rly did know everything: if you stop writing for a while the words will build up and stagnate. to clear the water, you will have to open the dam completely, and accept the fact that what initially comes out will not be palatable
This. This is so true. Starting again is more important than what you actually write. You are rusty. You’ll build up momentum again. All you need to do is start.
you cant just say you have a hack for drawing pinstripes and not tell us jude cmon
@thinktanks
i just draw each line painstakingly, one by one like a good child of god
“So which ship dynamic is your fav?”
“Yes”
Studio Ghibli’s animation software will be made available via open source this month.
That’s right…💯% free.
Read more on CartoonBrew.com
This is a BIG DEAL, folks.
Animation software is, by and large, very expensive and out of the range of most people seeking to get into animation. As of March 26th, this software will become open source and available to all prospective animators!
Spread the word!
Here’s a direct link to the Toonz website.
The Toonz website doesn’t actually contain the link to the program. You can find it here. The program that is free is called “OpenToonz”! There are many learning materials on youtube and forums that can help you get started, just be sure to include OpenToonz and not just ‘Toonz’ in the search as im sure the interfaces are different.
Yoo ive been a long time follower of your work was wondering if you could do a small tutorial on how you go about drawing and shading eyes? I'm having a hard time understanding how you manage to get the depth of the lens.
I actually already made a tutorial about eyes! It’s here if you want to look at it.
The biggest tip I have is to shade the inside of the eye like a cone. The highlight of the eye will be on the opposite side of the light-source:
this is a callout post —-
keep writing
keep drawing
keep building up your OCs backstories
keep creating
continue putting yourself out there
fuck others opinions of what you’re doing
do YOU do what makes YOU happy
do it for yourself first and the results will follow

I really like drawing hands but that’s only because I learned like 101 tricks and tips so if anyone had questions don’t be afraid to ask!
I’ve received a lot of letters from artists asking to check out their artwork and their blog, and I’ve noticed that a lot of them openly write unhealthy amounts of negative comments about their artwork, it was super depressing, honestly. :( Confidence plays a very very important role as an artist, it’s what helps us learn and grow without the constant feeling of doubt and jealousy! You are a unique individual who must go down your own unique path, and as scary as it sounds, you can’t rely on others to hold your hand all the way through. You are the only one who can get yourself to where you need to go, and beating up your artwork is not the way! Trust yourself and your abilities to make a change, and you can do anything!! Love your art, love yourself!
I see a lot of positivity posts about 12-year-olds just learning to draw. Posts cautioning us to be mindful of 11-year-olds with no grasp of anatomy and 13-year-olds whose characters are all the same person with different hair and clothes, and I love those posts. Those are great posts. Keep those posts coming, tumblr.
But can I ask, what about the 25-year-old who just bought their first ever sketchbook? What about the 32-year-old who’s been drawing for a month and has just about got the hang of a human-looking face? What about the 67-year-old who finally has time to sit down and learn how to paint like they’ve always wanted?
Not everyone starts drawing as a child. Not everyone learned as a preteen. Some people start in college. Some people start when their career is going well and they feel like it’s time for a new hobby. Some people start after they’ve retired.
Not all beginner artists are kids, and I just think the adults ones deserve some encouragement, too.
As someone that kind of quit drawing in High School and didn’t get back into serious until I was like 23 I totally agree with this. I’ve come far in the last three years as I really took learning seriously but I have a long ways to go.
Theres a serious pack of positivity for people that are less good at older ages because they weren’t already doing serious study of art techniques and anatomy at 15.
