“Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.

The Pandora tale has now become a common turn of phrase, meaning the opening and release of potential troubles, which are perhaps hard to judge of their danger before they have been set free. There is also a feeling that returning them to whence they came would also be a particularly arduous task.”

“I am deeply inspired by the masters of Japanese Ukiyo-e painting, and aim with my pieces to convey a deeply evocative and somewhat reminiscent picture of a past both foreign and beautiful, where notions of time and enjoyment had very different connotations.

The bulk of my work consists of investigating public domain ukiyo-e and then planning the piece before moving on to digital collage, drawing and painting on the final assemblage.”

Daybreak is regarded as the most popular art print of the 20th century, based on number of prints made: one for every four American homes. 

Only two figures appear in the completed painting, though pencil studies indicate that the artist originally intended a third near the righthand column. The composition is arranged on the principle of "dynamic symmetry".

“As early as 1912, Otto commissioned Klimt to paint his young daughter, Mada. Klimt had run out of enthusiasm for the heavily ornamented gold portraits of the years 1907 to 1909 and had turned for inspiration to his collection of Japanese prints and art books. Rather than filling the entire picture surface with pattern, he allowed the background to show through much more, enlivening it with motifs here and there. The blossom in Mada's hair and the birds, fish and butterflies in the rug's design all owe much to the Orient. 

Mäda Primavesi’s expression and posture convey a remarkable degree of confidence for a nine-year-old girl, even one who was, by her own account, willful and a tomboy.”

“My work expresses conflicts and emotions aroused from distinct social roles through figurative subjects that ranges from models and cartoon characters, to gods. For each piece, I start with a simple drawing on a canvas of a chosen figure/image. Then, I go into a constant exploration of constructing and deconstructing the image with obsessive amount of acrylics or oils to ease out my emotions. I adapt myself and live out the society through such actions.”

“I've told my husband not to buy me flowers, because I just get depressed when they die (which is quickly, because I never remember to water them). But I love flowers. This painting was my solution for flowers year-round. And I wanted to capture them in a way that, even though they have been picked and put in a vase, their motion and structure are so vibrant they almost look like they are still out in the field.”
