“We have much more complicated systems on my planet.” He chuckled. “These are rather easy for me. I was glad to help.” His black eyes glanced up at the clock. They’d be getting off their shift soon. Quietly he looked over to her, his pointed ears lowering as he shyly spoke up again.
“Would you… um… Maybe be willing to come eat with me? I don’t… I’m not familiar with too many people aboard the ship.”
“Th-tha’ sounds nice.” She grinned at him happily, bouncing a little in her seat. “Th’ only other person I really know on th’ ship is Doctor McCoy, and I try not t’ bother him when I’m not sick.”
“I only know the Captain and Commander Spock well enough to speak to them. But… Well, you know.” He chuckled sheepishly, his ears still lowered. And her acceptance though they perked back up, almost making him seem like some sort of strange puppy in a way. “You will? O-oh. That’s great.”
Jenna grinned and nodded excitedly.
“Yeah! Oh, ya know th’ commander? I know he’s th’ head o’ science division, but I haven’ gotten t’ meet him yet. Is he nice?”
"I work under him... He's especially interested in my case... Seeing as i'm the only one of my kind in Starfleet." Black eyes averted their gaze, his long fingers tracing the markings on his left hand. "It makes one feel... A little singled out. Not that I hold anything against him. It's just hard to make friends when you feel like a towering circus show." He smiled a little softly, ears going down some.

Spock noticed the change in her with a raised brow. “I think that settles it then… i believe we have her attention now- T'Piri?” Arrow felt soft finger pads on her face before her world went dark once more. But this time, images appeared, flashes of memories replaying in her head as T'Piri sifted through them. First about Garret… And then finally about her mother. About the many night spent running like a rat through the alleys. The bruises, the cuts… Her mothers steely gaze. T'Piri saw it all.
She finally let go of the girl, laying her gently down on the ground. Mind melding with a human was certainly draining, and she had no doubt it had taken an even more… Emotionally significant toll on Arrow. “I have what information you need Captain. Though… I would highly suggest not brining her back to Earth.” Honeyed eyes looked over to Scotty from where she knelt. “Perhaps… Perhaps we should call in someone to bring her back to MedBay.”
Kirk nodded as he looked at the girl, sighing softly. Pressing a button on his pad he spoke. “Heya Bones… We need you to send someone up here to retrieve Miss Dice.” He smiled a little at McCoy’s complaints of the Vulcans taking too much out of her, but he agreed. It was only a few minutes before a rather tall snow haired ensign with glittering black eyes arrived. “T'Piri… You stay here with us. We have things to discuss. Ensign. Take care of her now.” The ensign nodded, easily scooping Arrow up despite his thin physique.
Arrow didn’t have any time to prepare herself, which was for the best had she known what was to happen she would of thrown quite the impressive struggle. But it wasn’t so bad the first moment, she saw her father. A cheerful but often intimidating man in the eyes of others, though he was nothing but gentle and compassionate to her. The gruff man cooing little pet names, flashes of a proud smile as the girl hit her mark with an arrow or tinkered some odd mechanical hunk back to life, it was homely and warm…
But a woman made her appearance, looking much like the young human but… Sharper, cruel ice in her eyes and a disapproving scowl on her face. She seemed of a much wealthier status than the scarred man from before, elegant apparel and an air of control. always hissing a name. “Amelia.” There always came flashes of bruises and blood, scratches and tears. Only getting worse and worse until-
She was running.
Donning a familiar satchel and wardrobe, running running. Hiding and hiding some more, sneering voices and taunts in the distance. “Mother dearest has a fine reward over your head.” They’d say, as the memories went on she got dirtier, grimier, nights spent huddled in dark corners. Tears for her father… Tears from injuries. Tears from when the taunting voices became large men with strong hands, “Lucky you. We aren’t allowed to mess up that pretty face.”
It almost felt like the memories went on forever, like she was stuck in one of her nightmares filled to the brim with narrow escapes, but it all faltered soon enough and Arrow found herself gasping. Mind reeling as she tried to regain her focus, she felt dizzy again, the mind meld not helping the headache Spocks little pinch had offered her earlier. “-The hell did you do-” She whimpered as she cried, bringing her arms to her face in a manner that left her forearm draped across her eyes, attempting to hide the new stream of tears that came to her. Only bringing her cuffed hands back to her chest when she felt herself hoisted up. A quizzical look peaking out from her distressed expression as she looked to him, he certainly wasn’t human, she couldn’t place him at all really. All she knew was that she felt dreadfully high off of the ground.. Trembling lips almost whined something up to him before deciding against it, simply letting herself go limp, tiny sobs being the only sound to resonate from her.
"Forgive me Arrow..." T'Piri spoke softly. "I will have time to explain after the Doctor sees you." There was a look of remorse in those golden eyes, but Spock's face was as passive as ever, gesturing the younger Vulcan to them. The ensign carried her to the turbo lift, readjusting her so her head could rest on his chest as he held her.
"You don't look so well." He hummed. A black leather collar with a small silver box covered in buttons adorned his neck, probably a device to help him breathe in an enviorment that would otherwise hurt him. "I'm Callisto. Ensign Callisto Elysr of the science department. I work under Commander Spock..." He trailed off. "Doctor McCoy is quite upset. Going on about "damn Vulcans" and the like." He gave her a tiny smile as he stepped out of the turbolift.
He took the same path T'Piri had used to bring her to Kirk, moving through the hallways and occasionally getting glances from others crewmembers. It didn't take Arrow very long to see that Ensign Callisto was a very tall youth, the top of his snowy white head almost reaching the ceiling with only a foot of room left. He brought her to McCoy, slightly ducking his head through the door, placing her on the gurney. McCoy immeadiately appeared, grumbling to himself as it seemed was normal of him.
"I messed up." (For whoever feels it from Jenna)
Black eyes that seemed to reflect every glimmering light around them looked up to her, ashen grey lips pulling up into the smallest of smiles. “It’s okay… I don’t always get it at first either.” A pale white hand tugged at the hem of his blue shirt. No one had really spoken to him yet, and it made Callisto’s throat a little tight as he reached out to her.
“Would… Would you like my help?”
@ensign-ava-ensign-oconnor
“Please?” Jenna asked softly, looking up at him wide eyed. She was still so new to the ship and everything about it still felt strange to her.
He no doubt made things felt stranger. Being the only Elysrian in Starfleet (and a prince at that, but only the captain knew of that so far) made him feel like a bit of an outcast… No different from his home planet. He was hyper aware of the delicate tribal like black patterns that marked the entire left side of his being, his hand with drawing from her and his pointed ears lowering as he cleared his throat.
“A-alright.” He scooted nearer to her. “What is it you need help with?”
“I, uh…” Jenna bit her lip nervously, shifting awkwardly in her seat. “I can’ get into th’ systems at all, and-and I’ve got a lot o’ stuff I gotta get caught up on…” She was already more than a year behind the rest of the crew, she didn’t like the idea that she might be even more behind.
Callisto listened to her quietly, black eyes sliding to the side. It took him a moment before those long fingers of his ran through his snow white hair with a soft laugh. “Alright. You have your work cut out for you, don’t you? Here, like this.” He walked her through the steps, explaining things throughly and stopping when she got too confused. When they had finally finished the Elysrian was beaming, his sharp canines gleaming as he smiled at her.
“There we are! See? I knee you could do it. If you need help with anything else, I’d be glad to help. I’m Callisto by the way… Ensign Callisto Elysr.”
Jenna smiled at him, more relaxed now that someone had taken the time to show her how to get things done in the system.
“Ensign Jenna O'Connor.” She introduced herself. “Thank ya fer helpin’ me. Th’ system here is way more advanced than at th’ academy, I don’ think I’d have ever figured it out on m’ own.”
"We have much more complicated systems on my planet." He chuckled. "These are rather easy for me. I was glad to help." His black eyes glanced up at the clock. They'd be getting off their shift soon. Quietly he looked over to her, his pointed ears lowering as he shyly spoke up again.
"Would you... um... Maybe be willing to come eat with me? I don't... I'm not familiar with too many people aboard the ship."
Kirk seemed pained at her answer. “Look, honey, you’re young. Whatever you’re running from, Starfleet isn’t in the business of babysitting. If I throw you in that cell, and hand you over to them, they’re going to put you right back where you started and I don’t want that. I see potential in you, and you’ve done more than prove your intelligence and usefulness to us. I want to help you.” Kirk looked back up, his eyebrows knit together.
T'Piri was silent, but she could feel Spock looking at her. Quietly, she stepped forward to speak up. “May I request a mindmeld, sir?” Both Scotty and Kirk looked to her eyes wide. “I do not wish for Miss Dice… Or whatever her true name is, to be treated like a prisoner when she has done nothing to harm us.” She looked to Spock, who nodded silently. Kirk watched their silent exchange before sighing. He rubbed at his temples, groaning. “Mister Spock… Please tell me you found something while file hunting.”
“We do not have access to most confidential records, but Starfleet does have records on a certain Garret Dice, which I believe she has connections to. If i’m correct… Ensign Asil should be able to confirm all my suspicions.”
She grimaced at the conversation they carried on with. She didn’t want either vulcan doing anything to her… She quite liked T’Piri but another little vulcan trick might just send her into another panicked fit. She remained silent however, there wasn’t anything she wanted to say.. Nothing she could let herself anyhow… And if they put her in a cell and handed her over to others that means she’d be brought back to Earth. Maybe… Maybe that would work out for her somehow, should she be able to flee she’d be able to continue hiding.. Continue searching for-
Garret. Garret Dice.
That was her father. He said her fathers name.
The youngers eyes flashed as she instantly stared up at the vulcan. It was much better than hearing her mothers name. Her old man didn’t have the cleanest of records, nor the best of reputations- But… Maybe they would be able to find where he was? Could they do that?
It took a great deal of effort to bite her tongue, making sure she didn’t blurt out the question that had been prying at her for months on end. Her heart raced yet again but as before, silent.
Spock noticed the change in her with a raised brow. "I think that settles it then... i believe we have her attention now- T'Piri?" Arrow felt soft finger pads on her face before her world went dark once more. But this time, images appeared, flashes of memories replaying in her head as T'Piri sifted through them. The sleek black ship hadn’t been crashed for very long, black smoke curling up from its interior up into the clear starry night sky. The trees were bare as the thin figure moved through the snow, a white hand clutching his side and a hood hiding his face. He knew the terrans would be swarming to his position soon… Even small crashes were considered important from what he had read.
He could hear Ganymede’s voice in his head, scolding him for being so stupid, telling him that it was always his curiosity that would be his downfall. The youthful figure staggered, silver droplets marking the snow as he fell, his head spinning.
N A O M I was out on her own when she heard a N O I S E of destruction nearby. With her communicator nearby her, she went off searching for the noise. If she really needed to head out of there, she can call for backup or easily get herself beamed out of the bad situation.
It wasn’t long until she notices something on the ground, F A L L E N. She rushed over to the other, not even giving another thought about the danger she’s putting herself in. “A R E you okay?”
The figure was shockingly thin by terran standards, his skin as white as the snow. Silver blood stained his black clothes, his face marked with an ashen grey spot that could be a bruise. As she rolled him over his hood fell back, revealing snow white hair and a silver circlet that rested on his crown. Strange, almost tribal like patterns swirled about the entire left side of his face and ear, and seemed to continue down. Those long pointed ears that were notched right above his earlobe twitched, black sclera that seemed to reflect every star in the sky searched around until they fell on her.
"Why..." He coughed at the smell of smoke. "Why is it so... Warm?" He laid his head back into the snow, gloved hands reaching up to the strange collar at his throat. Perhaps... It let him breathe?

ok psa NOAA is literally livestreaming deep sea exploration footage from one of their submersibles!!! like right now!!! you can watch them discover parts of the ocean that NOBODY HAS EVER SEEN
an eel!!!!!!!!!!!
“he has no right swimming that fast in this cold of water. i don’t know what this guy is up to, but it’s rude” – an actual scientist on the NOAA okeanos exploration
ok they’re not streaming rn but they should be later this afternoon!!
they’re in the water again right now/currently descending (as of 3:30 PM CST/4:30 PM EST)
“oh, mm. those are not the right coordinates. i almost sent us into the cliff :)” i love NOAA scientists
they’re at the bottom!! octocoral
glass sponge with “a crinoid hat, [churlish giggle]” according to the scientists
cusk eel!
bonus: “i like corals better, they don’t run away from us”
they cannot decide which rock to pick for sampling this is absurd
a beautiful blue shrimp!!
“i can’t call it bob, i’ll call it bob and then scott will tell me it’s a female again”
“what is he doing to this poor coral? he’s tipped it over and he’s eating it, the darn guy!!”
wow I love them
I know we are supposed to concerned with the captain’s safety here, but I can’t take it seriously with his glittery nip cover.
