#6 : Reflection for the First Quarter in Learning MIL
The first quarter in MIL is pretty amazing, as a matter of fact. Even though, we switched from one teacher to another in the first few days, we are happy that our teacher was Ms. Barrioga.
At first I thought ‘Oh, this is just a review of last year’s Oral Comm...easy’. But then, I was wrong. Its not just a review of last year’s lessons, but also a sort of like extension of the lessons last year.
I really learned a lot this first quarter on MIL. From the evolution of media to the legal and ethical issues in media, I knew more about them and learned new things about them as well.
The topic I was interested the most was the last lesson, which was the Legal, Ethical, and Societal issues in MIL. The Copyrights and Patents are quite interesting to me, since I always wanted to know if I am violating any copywrite work when I write an essay of do some research.
Overall, all of the lessons were taught wonderfully and were all interesting. I hope our classes in the next quarters will be lively taught as the first quarter lessons.

#4: Information Literacy and Types of Media
• Information Literacy
Information literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, organize, use, and communicate information in all its various formats, most notably in situations requiring decision making, problem solving, or the acquisition of knowledge. It is a combination of research skills, critical thinking skills, computer technology skills, and communication skills. Information literacy is essential for academic success, effective functioning in the workplace, and participation in society as knowledgeable citizens.
We need information literacy now more than ever. Check your news websites are really a reliable source or not. Don’t believe everything immediately. Always fact-check your information. With everything going on these days, we don’t know if the information we have and heard are true or not.
It only takes a few minutes to fact-check your information. Think before you click, an online news campaign once said. Always think before clicking and after reading a news headline. Its right to know the truth.
• Types of Media
Media is the term we use to refer to different types of media that provide us with important information and knowledge. Media has always been part of our society, even when people used paintings and writings to share information.
You can classify media in three main categories:
1. Print Media - For the generations of the 80s and 90s, print media was the only media of entertain. People relied on newspapers and magazines to learn everything, from recipes and entertainment news to important information about the country or the world.
Examples:
Newspapers • Banners
Magazines • Billboards
Books • Flyers
2. Broadcasting Media - includes videos, audios, or written content that provides important or entertaining information
Examples:
Television
Radio
Movies
3. Internet Media - Websites provide information in the form of video, text, and audio. We can even choose the way we want to receive the news.
Examples:
Social Media Networks or Websites
Online Forums
Podcast
With these different types of media, we can get information almost everywhere. From newspapers to websites, information is scattered around us. But again, we should check if the information we read or heard is reliable. We should also think twice, or even thrice, before even believing in the information we saw. Because if we didn't, it may need to a lot of negative consequences.

Propaganda (Digital Poster)
Nowadays, everything online is just a click away. One photo, one headline, one comment or shared post, and everything changes, especially our thoughts and opinions. It is hard to take back what we posted and commented. It can offend people of certain race or color. It can also offend our friends, and even our family
So, always remember; before entering your comment, believing a headline, or sharing a post...

#2: Mass Media & Mass Communication
Mass media refers to a diverse array of media technologies that reach a large audience via mass communication
Mass communication is the process of imparting and exchanging information through mass media to large segments of the population.
In simple terms, Mass media is the means of communication that reach large numbers of people in a short time, such as television, newspapers, magazines, and radio. On the other hand, Mass communication is the process by which a person, group of people or organization creates a message and transmits it through some type of medium to a large audience.
Both of them wouldn’t function without the other. Without mass communication, mass media and its medium cannot not bring information to the people around the world. And without mass media, the institutions that deliver mass communication can’t spread the information the have to their fellowmen
