Arwen was born the eldest daughter of two lawyers, and she knew from birth that they had the same goals for her. They never hid it. Looking back, her home felt like a courthouse — it was cold, and stern, and the rules were strict and unbreakable. That wasn’t to say her parents were neglectful — in truth, they were very loving. Everything she wanted, she got. Dance classes? You got it. Music lessons? Pick whatever instrument you like, they’d find the best teacher. Horse riding? Go pick a horse, and they’d sort out the rest. Still, there was always the knowledge that as much as she may enjoy those hobbies, at the end of it all she was always due to become a lawyer. She had no say in the matter.
As a child and into her adolescence, Arwen found that she had a real passion for dance. Her parents indulged her. They indulged her further when she was scouted by a model agency as a teenager — the gigs could help her pay for law school, after all. They could help instil in her a knowledge of hard work and financial awareness.
At eighteen, Arwen began trying to pursue dancing as a career. Her decision to refuse every plan her parents had laid out for her was one that didn’t go down well. It was the cause of many family arguments, many slammed doors, many months of tension and anger — and still she persisted. She trained, and she applied, and she worked harder than she had ever worked for anything.
Eventually, her work paid off, and she was accepted into Juilliard. There, she never took a day for granted. She knew how much effort it had taken to make it here — and besides, what was she going to do if she failed? Go back home, with her tail between her legs, and admit her parents had been right all along? Don’t be ridiculous. She helped to fund her studies with her modelling career. It was in Juilliard that she started working part time as a magician’s assistant, performing with an up and coming magician with big dreams of having his own show one day — and Arwen had believed in him completely. Slowly, he became one of her closest friends, and upon her graduation she decided to work with him full-time. Together, they created a show to be proud of — a show that eventually achieved what all magicians dream of, and took them all the way to Las Vegas.
With a residency performing in Vegas and a partnership to be proud of, Arwen finally began to feel as though she was on her way to achieving something worthwhile. Every night, she performed for crowds of thousands — she danced for them, heard their cheers, marvelled in their awe as her and her magician spun circles around them with tricks practiced to perfection. Of course, there were difficult days — a magician’s assistant, she came to realise, had to become one with broken nails and bruised limbs — but she fell in love with the pressure of it all, the unpredictability of never knowing whether a trick would work out, the energy of the crowds each night. It reminded her why she had first fallen in love with performing.
Yet there was little glory in her role. It was never her name in lights, never her they applauded, never her that got the credit — even when tricks relied upon her. There was nothing anyone could do about it, either — how could you ask for more audience appreciation, when so many tricks relied upon the audience believing you were one of them? Depended upon you being able to sneak cards into their pockets, or distract them from the technical parts of the magician’s trick? To ask for her own applause would be to spoil the magic — and that was something Arwen would never do.
When she was twenty-four, her modelling career truly began to pick up. Eventually, she made the decision to leave Vegas for a career as a fashion model in New York. Slowly, she began to gain success and notoriety. She walked catwalks in more fashion weeks than she could even remember now, working with the kind of brands that most people could only dream of owning. She maintained a steady stream of bookings, and finally — finally — she began to feel as though the eyes were on her, for her. Her background in dance gave her a unique approach to the catwalk, and that quirkiness only increased her popularity.
Her life became a whirlwind of shows and parties, and she relished in them all. She travelled the globe, avoiding ever growing roots, and found beauty in every corner she searched. It wasn’t until she woke up on her thirtieth birthday and looked around that she truly realised that although her life was beautiful and successful and the stuff dreams were made of, she was somehow completely alone — even when surrounded by a crowd of people. There was nobody she could truly consider a friend.
She needed a change. She needed roots. She needed something — and she found it in Aurora Bay. In truth, she wasn’t sure what had brought her to the town — but once she was there, she fell in love. So, she build a home. She got an apartment, and began trying to have some semblance of a normal life. She threw herself into all the events, and tried her hardest to become a part of the community. She was still working — she still had that passion, after all — but now, she had somewhere to return to that wasn’t a hotel room, or an empty apartment just used to store her belongings. She had a home.
The entertainment industry has never been known for being kind to women as they age, and it was no kinder to Arwen than it had been anyone else. As the years went by, the offers became less frequent, and instead she found her positions being replaced by younger, prettier versions of herself. For a while, she tried desperately to cling on to relevancy — but everything she did seemed to just push her further away. Slowly, she found herself becoming faced with that awful reality — she had been replaced.
So, she retired. Or, at least, she retired as well as she knew how to — she had never really been one to sit around, after all. Instead, she decided to throw herself into her community. She retired from modelling, from performing, and instead trained to become a yoga instructor. Yoga had been a part of her life for so long, it only made sense to try to pass those skills onto a new group of people willing to learn. She began throwing herself into the community, making sure to at least attend every community event out there — and if they needed her, she was always willing to help with them. Of course, she never fully backed away from the glitz and the glamour — if there was ever a charity gala, or a ceremony, or a party with her old friends, you could be sure Arwen would do her best to attend — but it was no longer the be all and end all of her life. She had other priorities now.

Neighbours
This is a niche one lmao, but Arwen was a magician’s assistant like 20 years ago & it would be great to maybe one day have him pop up! Arwen was there when he started his act & made it to a Vegas residency with him, but eventually left to pursue her own career. UTP how this might have gone down/what the relationship is like now, but Arwen still sees this as one of her biggest regrets bc of how much it hurt him & essentially ended their friendship.
