Man I was thinking about Sa'ti and his baby brother Ka'li and it just gives me chest pains because likeâŠ
They were all each other had. They had grandma, of course, but she was far too old and crotchety to really take care of children. So Sa'ti, as just a tiny young child himself, raised Ka'li. Sa'ti was 5 years old and changing diapers and warming up formula to feed this tiny nugget.
He was there to clean and bandage all of Ka'liâs scraped knees and boo boos. While also handling his own, of course. This small baby went with him everywhere.
And even after they grew up, Ka'li was so attached to his big brother that he followed Sa'ti around, and while Sa'ti doesnât like that kind of behavior, he adored having Ka'li with him.
They shared their deepest secrets and fears, hopes and dreams with each other. Ka'li was the only person Sa'ti was ever fully honest with. They held each other when they cried and Sa'ti would threaten anyone that would dare come near his little brother.
And then one day, Ka'li passes. Sa'ti is there to hold him in his arms and comfort him as he passes away.
And Sa'ti has no one. But worse than that, his precious baby brother, whoâs diapers he changed, wounds he cleaned, this huge light in a world of darkness - his life is gone.
Sa'ti wonât ever see him again. He wonât hear his voice or his laugh again. He wonât feel the gentle flutter of an excited heartbeat at his side ever again.
The universe took away an angel and left him, a devil, behind. That isnât the way itâs supposed to be.
So if Sa'ti seems a bit overly jaded about Ka'liâs death sometimes, please remember this. Remember how close they were and how he was only 4 years old when he started taking care of an infant that he raised only to be killed.
It is not something that will ever be okay to him. Never.
