By the way, out of interest, and as the maniac that I am, I read through the 2026 sporting regulations again regarding the procedures of restarting races after a red flag. And you wanna know what's interesting? There shouldn't have been a second restart

According to the regulations the FIM themselves made, if the restarted race (aka Race 2 as it's referred to) is interrupted having completed less than 3 laps, as was the case in Catalunya, the race results are void and points are awarded according to the positions of Race 1 at the point of the inital red flag (full points for over 50% race distance, half points for less than 50% distance)

A second restart, aka a Race 3 as we had in Barcelona, is only allowed in exceptional circumstances of force majeure and if neither Race 1 nor Race 2 yielded eligable results

However, Race 1 completed more than 3 laps. Meaning that it was eligble for results (I don't remember off the top of my head if it would have been full or half points, but either way, the results were valid according to the regulations). And before anyone asks, no, a crash is not an act of force majeure

We all already knew that from a standpoint of common sense alone this race should have been stopped but it's nice to know that even the regulations are on our side.

Which begs the question, what exactly happens when the FIM themselves break regulations? Do we get to grab our pitchforks and torches and march up to their headquaters? I think we should be allowed to do that

i started watching MotoGP last year and have heard many negative things about how they handle red flags and serious incidents. I don't remember any red flags last year (probably saschenring but it felt like a fever dream), but I do remember moto3's incident back in sepang. I didn't watch it, but I remember people were criticizing motogp for how they handled the information and the various replays shown. and now something similar has happened and it feels so much worse. a horrifying crash, and a red flag, and while riders and team members were worrying, my broadcast played three to four replays, from the outside camera, to onboards. then a restart happened and an immediate red flag, and then somehow, they thought another restart was reasonable

that is very much crazy and shows what they are focusing on. a very serious incident happened on a race circuit, a place where races are meant to happen, where two riders have been brought to hospitals, and they kept trying to restart the race. and now, they're proposing a street circuit, when street circuits have been very dangerous for motorbikes.
